  • Test for suction at the intake with hose disconnected

    • If there is suction,
      • Verify the Suction Control Switch on the hose is in closed position
        • *     * Inspect the hose for clogs
      • Disconnect hose from machine and the attachment
      • Carefully insert a broomstick or long narrow object to remove obstruction
      • Examine the wand for clogs
      • Ensure brush is turning
        • *       * If not turning, see [Brush Is Not Turning](https://support.bissell.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2458) troubleshooting
    • If no there is no suction,
      • Verify the Variable Power Control switch on the machine is set for maximum suction
      • Check bag and replace if full
        • *       * Ensure the closure tab on the dust bag is properly folded back
      • Inspect the filters
      • Pre-motor filter
        • Pull up on the vacuum bag compartment release lever to open the canister
        • The pre-motor filter is behind the vacuum bag
        • Slide the filter out of the attachment channel
          •     *         * Wash in warm water with mild detergent
        • Allow filter to completely air dry (24-48 hours) before reinstalling
          • If filter is torn, a replacement will need to be ordered
        • Install filter
          • Slide into attachment channel
          • Press down to secure
          • Close canister
      • Canister filter and post-motor filter
        • Located in the canister of your machine
        • Pull up on the vacuum bag compartment release lever to open canister
        • Canister filter is at the top and features a locking tab
          • Lift up on the tab and lift out the filter
            •       *         * Below the canister filter is the post-motor filter
        • Clean filters with warm water and a mild detergent
        • Allow filters to completely air dry (24-48 hours) before reinstalling
          • If either filter is torn, a replacement will need to be ordered
        • Reinstall filters
          • Press down on the canister filter locking tab
            • The filter should snap into place
          • Close canister and try machine again
