ALL-ENVIRONMENT, IN-GROUND, OUTDOOR LOUDSPEAKER
QUICK START INSTALLATION AND SETUP GUIDE

ALL-ENVIRONMENT, IN-GROUND, OUTDOOR LOUDSPEAKER
The NEAR® IG4M is a limited bandwidth “satellite” speaker, intended to be used with a subwoofer and a power amplifier with a 90Hz, 1 dB/octave high pass filter (crossover) like that provided by NEAR XL series amplifiers. Its 120-degree wide dispersion means fewer speakers are needed to cover an area with high clarity sound than competing systems with 60-degree dispersion; every listener in the coverage area will hear full performance sound without overly loud “hot” and low fidelity “dead” zones
The IG4M provides maximum system design and wiring flexibility. Integrators can choose to power the IG4M satellite speakers with a low impedance amplifier or a 70V line. Selection of 70V power levels or low impedance operation is made via a rotary switch located under a protective cover. On the underside of the IG4M enclosure are two IP-67 rated “Perfect Fit” connectors that allow convenient daisy chain wiring of multiple speakers on a single signal line. The supplied connector socket and plugs are keyed to prevent wiring polarity problems while their double O-ring design prevents ingress of water and dirt for long-term signal integrity.
The IG4M speakers are truly weather-proof, not just “weather-resistant,” and
can be used when totally exposed to the elements. The enclosures are color-
through, Linear Low- Density Polyethylene that sheds moisture, dirt, and
chemicals. The UV inhibitor pigments are embedded uniformly throughout the
material so the sun won’t fade the speaker’s color.
Best of all is the sound quality. The IG4M’s wide dispersion design and high-
tech components ensure well-balanced, lifelike sound at every volume level
without fatigue. The IG4M satellite speakers utilize Metal Diaphragm
Technology (MDT) woofers and 1-inch metal alloy tweeters both with Magnetic
Liquid Suspension (MLS) technology.

IG4M Power Setting Rotary Switch Selector
Integrators can choose to power the IG4M satellite speakers with a low impedance amplifier or a 70V line. Selection of 70V power levels or low impedance operation is made via a rotary switch located under a protective cover. When used in low impedance mode, the satellite’s 16-ohm load allows up to four IG4Ms to be paralleled and safely driven by typical AV receivers.

An IG4M speaker may be placed on the surface using the supplied ground stake
to secure the speaker into position (see example 1 ).
If you choose to partially bury the IG4M (up to the bottom of the speaker’s
grille, maximum), it is not necessary to use the ground stake. To ensure
better drainage, it is good practice to add a few inches of crushed stone,
covered by a layer of landscape fabric.
Pack the earth around the speaker as tightly as possible so as to keep large
amounts of water from streaming down the sides of the enclosure and into the
excavated hole (see example 2). If the water table is unusually high at the
speaker location, see section 48 for further instructions.
Securing an IG4M in the ground when the area water table is high or
frequent soaking occurs
Use two (2) screws (MS) with washers to attach a rust-proof Metal Plate or LI-
Channel to the bottom of the IG4M speaker.
Use a weighted object such as a landscape block or heavy stone to further
secure the speaker during soaking or flooding conditions.
IG4M Wiring Connection: Low Impedance System
Each IG4M speaker is set to 16 ohms (factory setting). This result is a 4-ohm load at the amplifier. The subwoofer in the example, NEAR IGS100M/K, is wired as a 4 ohm speaker (there are two voice coils in parallel). See Section 2 on the Switch Diagram.
FOR NEARSCAPES IG44.1 SYSTEMS;
NEAR 3XL/7XL Power Amplifiers have PRESETS specific to this system. Select for
easy system setup:
ALTERNATIVE:
NEAR 3XL17XL Power Amplifiers have cross over and equalization PRESETS
specific to various combinations of this speaker with NEAR subwoofers. Consult
the XL amplifier manual for easy system setup settings.
IG4M Wiring Connection: 70V/8-ohm Hybrid System
Example of a Hybrid System: 4 ohms on Channel A (subwoofers), 70V on Channel B with each IG4M speaker set to the 32W position.
