INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing Blue’s Clues & You!™ Scribble & Write Handy Dandy Notebook

For beginning learners, it teaches the names of letters and numbers. Experienced learners, can follow step-by-step instructions to draw shapes and write letters and numbers. Activities fostering creativity allow kids to make music, as well as draw and figure out Blue’s Clues with Josh!

WARNING
All packing materials such as tape, plastic sheets, packaging locks, removable tags, cable ties, and packaging screws are not part of this toy and should be discarded for your child’s safety.

NOTE

Unlock the Packaging Locks

1. Rotate the packaging locks 90 degrees counterclockwise.
2. Pull out the packaging lock and discard.

GETTING STARTED

Battery Removal and Installation

1. Make sure the unit is turned Off.
2. Find the battery cover located on the back of the unit, use a screwdriver to loosen the screw, and then open the battery cover.
3. Remove old batteries by pulling up one end of each battery.
4. Install 2 new AA (AM-3/LR6) batteries following the diagram inside the battery cover. (The use of new alkaline batteries is recommended for maximum performance.)
5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure.

WARNING:
Adult assembly is required for battery installation.
Keep batteries out of reach of children.

IMPORTANT: BATTERY INFORMATION

• Insert batteries with the correct polarity (+ and -).
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable batteries.
• Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
• Do not short-circuit the supply terminals.
• Remove batteries during long periods of non-use.
• Remove exhausted batteries from the toy.
• Dispose of batteries safely. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

•  Remove rechargeable batteries from the toy before charging.
• Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision.
• Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.

Low Battery Indicator

When the batteries run low, this icon will appear on the screen, flash twice and the unit will power off. Remove the old batteries and replace them with a new set.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Occasionally, the LCD touch screen may need to be recalibrated. If this happens,go to Settings Mode to adjust it before resuming play.

A small X will appear in each corner of the screen. Use the Stylus to touch each X exactly. Another X will appear after the previous one is touched correctly. The screen will show OK if the screen has been calibrated correctly. If an X isn’t touched correctly, the calibration will restart.

PRODUCT FEATURES

1. On/Off Switch
   Slide the On/Off Switch to turn the toy On.
   

2. Touch Sensitive LCD Screen
   Touch the LCD screen to play.

3. Stylus
   Use the stylus to tap and write on the screen.

4. Activity Buttons
   Press one of the Six Activity Buttons to select an activity.

5. Settings Button
   Press this button to adjust the volume (the default volume is at the highest level), turn the background music off and on, change the contrast of the LCD Screen, and calibrate the LCD Screen.
   

6. Letter Buttons
   Press these buttons to hear letter names and sounds.

7. Number Buttons
   Press these buttons to hear the number names 1-10.

8. Automatic Shut Off
   To preserve battery life, Blue’s Clues & You!™ Scribble & Write Handy Dandy Notebook will automatically power down after one minute without input. The unit can be turned on again by pressing any button.

ACTIVITIES

1. Writing Time
   Press a Letter or Number Button to learn how to write it. Follow the dotted lines. They will show you exactly how to draw perfect letters using the correct stroke order.

2. Play Blue’s Clues
   Play Blue’s Clues to figure out what Blue is trying to tell Josh! Follow the dotted lines to draw the clues. Then think, think, think to figure out Blue’s Clues!

3. Number Time
   Count Tickety’s bell chimes, help Blue find a missing number and take a break with some slow, calming breaths.

4. Shape It Up
   Help Josh remembers the name of shapes and follows the dotted lines to draw them.

5. Music Time
   Jam along with Blue and Josh! Tap the screen to add percussion, guitar, piano, or sounds from Blue or Josh.

6. Let’s Draw
   Get creative! Tap or drag anywhere on the screen to draw. The following icons can help:
   Pencil – Tap to draw.
   Eraser – Tap to turn the tip of your stylus into an eraser. Only what you touch will be erased.
   X – Tap this to erase your entire drawing.
   Checkmark – Tap this when you are finished.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.
2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from any direct heat sources.
3. Remove the batteries if the unit will not be in use for an extended period of time.
4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If for some reason the unit stops working or malfunctions, please follow these steps:

1.  Please turn the unit Off.
2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries.
4. Turn the unit On. The unit should now be ready to play again.
5. If the unit still does not work, install a new set of batteries.

Environmental Phenomena

The unit may malfunction if subjected to radio-frequency interference. It should revert to normal operation when the interference stops. If not, it may become necessary to turn the power Off and back On, to remove and reinstall the batteries. In the unlikely event of an electrostatic discharge, the unit may malfunction and lose memory, requiring the user to reset the device by removing and reinstalling the batteries.
