When supplied with digital signals, the amplifier generates a bit more punch, approaches stumbling bass lines in a leaner manner and appears more flexible.”
Editor’s conclusion:
“It can be turned round as you like: I haven’t discovered any major weaknesses
with the MA 900 even after using it for almost two months. The warm character
of the phono input means it can also cope with inexpensive turntables and it
is clearly a hit with high-quality consumers. The amp also retains its robust,
earthy and honest character when supplied with Bluetooth signals. Ultimately,
my highlight was the digital input: When using Foobar on my laptop for
playback, Magnat’s unit audibly tightens the strings, takes a deep breath and
marches on relentlessly. What really amazes me is the fact that you only have
to part with a comparatively small amount of cash to get your hands on an
extremely high-quality integrated amplifier, which is also equipped with
exclusive extras such as phono and tube preamplifiers, Bluetooth connectivity
and a wide range of digital connections. The MA 900, however, is really made a
reliable long-term companion due to its excellent sound which cannot be said
for every amplifier in this price range. In all seriousness, Magnat is asking
for just under twelve hundred euros for this unit. I think that’s great,
because then there’s more money left for records.”
