Scale Overview

LED Indicators

Flow-Rate Indicator

The Flow-Rate Indicator is an LED bar on the top of the display. It helps you visualize your pouring speed in real-time and suggests thresholds for ideal flow rates. The indicator measures flow rates with lit LEDs starting from 0.5 g per second in the center to 9.5 g per second to the end. When the flow rate exceeds 11.5 g per second, the last three LEDs will light up with enhanced brightness, indicating a high flow rate.
To provide thresholds for ideal flow rates, the first pair of brighter LEDs represents 2.5 g per second. The second pair of brighter LEDs represents 6.5 g per second, for targeting a faster pouring speed.
The Flow-Rate Indicator can be activated in Dual Display Mode, Pour Over Auto- Start Timer Mode, and Beverage Mode. You can turn the indicator on or off in the advanced settings menu.

Battery Charging

You can use the included USB Type-C charger cable to connect the Pearl to a USB port for charging. Fully charged and with normal use, the scale can be used continuously for about 30-40 hours.
The Acaia Pearl is equipped with charging protection to avoid charging under high temperatures. It is normal if the scale does not charge when its surface is still hot from brewing coffee. The battery charging function will be enabled again when the scale has cooled.

Advanced Settings

The Acaia Pearl includes all the essential brewing modes to suit your coffee brewing needs. Out-of-the-box settings include the most essential modes: Weighing Only Mode/ Dual Display Mode. Explore and enable more brewing modes with additional features such as auto-start, auto-tare, and beverage weight calculation in Advanced Settings. You can also tailor the scale according to your preference by changing the system settings, such as adjusting the screen brightness, turning the Flow-Rate Indicator on or off, and changing the auto- off timer setting.
To access Advanced Settings, press and hold while the LED display shows. 538 Continue holding until the battery level is displayed, the scale will then enter the settings menu automatically.
See the next section for brewing modes that can be selected through Advanced Settings.

Brewing Modes at a Glance

Mode 1 – Weighing Only Mode

The weight-only mode for all weighing purposes. Press and hold to select gram or ounce as your weighing unit.

Mode 2 – Dual Display Mode

With a dual display of timer and weight, this mode is made for all your coffee brewing needs, with manual control for timer and tare functions.

Mode 3 – Pour Over Auto-Start Timer Mode ( )

This mode is designed to aid pour-over coffee brewing. The scale will detect the start of the flow from the kettle into the carafe and automatically start the timer function; the timer stops when the brewing equipment has been removed from the scale. When the carafe is removed from the scale, the display flashes the final beverage weight.
Mode 4 – Portafilter Mode ( )
This mode is designed to speed up the workflow of accurately weighing coffee grounds in a portafilter. The scale automatically tares the portafilter and allows adjustment of the ground coffee in the portafilter. The mode will reset 15 seconds after the portafilter has been removed to allow weighing for the next shot.
Mode 5 – Beverage Mode
This mode is designed to measure the coffee-to-beverage ratio. It is one of the most consistent methods for measuring pour over-extraction. With this mode, you will be able to see the time elapsed for the brew, the total amount of water added, beverage weight in the carafe, and the coffee-to-beverage ratio at the end of the brew.

Step 1. Place the cup/carafe on the scale.
Press and hold to proceed to the next step.
Step 2. Place the filter/dripper on the cup.
Press and hold to proceed to the next step.
Step 3. Put the coffee in the filter.
Press and hold to proceed to the next step.
Step 4. Start pouring water and the timer will start automatically.

Calibrating Your Scale

The Acaia Pearl is a precision instrument, and regular calibration is recommended with frequent use. To perform a smart calibration, select Weighing Only Mode, switch the unit to grams, and follow the steps below:

Note: You may also use 500 g, 1000 g, or 2000 g weights. If you use weights other than Acaia Weights, we recommend standard F2 class weights.
Caution
–  Do not place hot objects directly on the weighing pan. Use a heat-resistant pad.
– Any modification made without the consent of the manufacturer may result in damage to the scale.
– Avoid using the scale near very strong magnetic fields.
