FM/AM/SW Radio
This radio has three bands which are FM, AM, and SW. The detailed features and
operations are introduced as follows:
(1) FM Radio:
Features: FM radio is also called frequency modulated radio. The radio
emission is linear. Because of its high frequencies and short wave, it is very
easy to be obstructed by a large building or mountain. This is why in some
remote countries, it is hard to receive FM signals well. But it has the
advantage that it can have clear sound and is not easy to be interfered with
by electromagnetic waves that come out from household appliances.
FM radio frequency:
87.5-108MHz Scan FM radio: Completely pull out the radio antenna, press the
“FM” button to change to the mode of FM radio, then the “FM” icon will light
on the top left corner of the display screen; Then hold press the button
“SCAN” for over 3 seconds and stop, the numbers on the display screen will
jump up quickly from 87.5 and stop at 108, which means the FM radio is Auto-
scanning channels and during this time you should not do any other operations
on this product. When finish scanning, it will automatically turn back to play
the first channel.
(2) AM (MW) Radio:
Features: AM (MW) is belongs to a medium wave, so it is easy to be interfered
with by electromagnetic waves that come out from power charger, light,
computer, and so on, which may lead to failure to scan AM channels. So you had
better move to some places without much interference of electromagnetic waves
when you scan the AM radio. In AM radio mode, the bigger noise, the bigger
interference. The big interference may lead to failure to scan AM radio. But
it has the advantage that it has a long wave which can bypass the large
building or mountain. This is why in some remote countries, although it is
hard to receive FM signals well, it can receive AM signals well.
AM radiofrequency:
522 – 1710 KHz Scan AM radio: Press the “AM” button to be the mode of AM, then
the “MW (AM)” icon will light on the left middle side of the display screen,
hold press the button “SCAN” for over 3 seconds and stop, the numbers on the
display screen will jump up quickly from 522 and stop at 1710, which means the
AM radio is Auto-scanning channels and during this time you should not do any
other operations on this product. When finishes Auto-scanning, it will
automatically turn back to play the first channel.
(3) SW Radio:
Features: SW is called a short wave, its frequency is 2300-21950KHZ, which is
between FM frequency and AM frequency. SW signals depend most on the weather.
If on a sunny day, the sunshine will absorb the SW signal, which will lead it
hard to receive the SW signal in the day. This is why it is better to receive
an SW signal at night.
SW radiofrequency: 2300-21950KHZ
Scan SW radio: Press the “SW” button to change to the mode of SW radio, then
the “SW” icon will light on the bottom left side of the display screen; then
hold press the button “SCAN” for over 3 seconds and stop, the numbers on the
display screen will jump up quickly from 2300 and stop at 21950, which means
the SW radio is Auto-scanning channels and during this time you should not do
any other operations on this product. When finish scanning, it will
automatically turn back to play the first channel.
In FM/AM/SW radio mode, when finish scanning, you can press “ ” or “ ” to choose the previous or the next radio channel. Or you can use number buttons 0-9 can be to select one specific channel (For example, in FM radio mode, if the total FM channel is 50, then you can continuously press buttons 3+5 to select the 35th radio channel. If can not scan out or only scan out very few radio channels, please try to Auto-Scan one more time to see if it will be better.
(4)Memory radio channels and delete radio channels manually
A. Memory radio channels manually:
In usual life, everyone has different usage habits, and some people want to
save more radio channels, but when Auto-scan the radio, the radio can only
catch those radio channels with a strong signal, can not catch those radio
channels with a weak signal. If your desired radio channel is with a weak
signal and you want to save it in this situation, you need to memory channels
manually.
Detail operations are as follows:
a. If you know the frequency of your desired radio channel, you can save the
radio channel by pressing the “0-9” number buttons. For example, for FM radio
frequency “1062MHz”, you can press number buttons “1, 0, 6, 2” and then short
press the button “ ”, the display screen will appear the word “SAVE”, which
means the radio channel has been saved in its related position. You can press
“ ” or “ ” to choose the radio channel or press the “0-9” number buttons to
choose the radio channel. For example, if one of your desired radio channels
is saved as a NO.1 channel, then you can press the number button “1” to choose
to play this radio channel.
b. If you do not know the frequency of the radio channels, you can turn the
“TUNING” knob to find out the radio channels you want to save, and then short
press the button “ ” to save them.
B. Delete radio channels manually:
It is a waste of time to choose your desired channels if the radio has saved
many channels and at this time you can delete the channels you do not like as
follows:
Press “ ” or “ ” to choose the radio channels you do not like or the fake
channels (Fake channels means the channels with noise but no signal), hold
press “ ” for 3 seconds, the display screen will appear the word “DEL”, which
means the radio channel has been deleted.
The Battery Charging Method
- When reading USB/TF intermittently or display screen flashing, indicates that the battery voltage is not enough and you need to charge the battery by using the USB charging cable: plug the big end into the USB jack of the computer or USB power adapter and plug the small end into the DC5V charging jack of this unit. When charging, the LED charging indicator will light in red color. Otherwise, means failure to charge.
- Charging time is 3-5 hours, and the charging indicator will turn green color when it is fully charged;

Local Government Regulations
When the radios are used as a consequence of employment, the Local Government
Regulations requires users to be fully aware of and able to control their
exposure to meet occupational requirements. Exposure awareness can be
facilitated by the use of a product label directing users to specific user
awareness information. Your Retekess radio has an RF Exposure Product Label.
Also, your user manual or separate safety booklet includes information and
operating instructions required to control your RF exposure and to satisfy
compliance requirements.
Compliance with RF Exposure Standards (If appropriate, reference to the
actual product’s Safety Marking)
Your Retekess radio is designed and tested to comply with a number of national
and international standards and guidelines (listed below) for human exposure
to radiofrequency electromagnetic energy.

Protect your hearing
WARNING
| • Use the lowest volume necessary to do your job.
• Turn up the volume only if you are in noisy surroundings.
• Turn down the volume before adding a headset or earpiece.

Turn off your radio power in the following conditions
WARNING
| • Turn off your radio before removing (installing) a battery or accessory
or when charging the battery.
• Turn off your radio when you are in a potentially hazardous environment:
Near electrical blasting caps, in a blasting area, in explosive atmospheres
(inflammable gas, dust particles, metallic powders, grain powders, etc.).
• Turn off your radio while taking on fuel or while parked at gasoline service
stations.
To avoid electromagnetic interference and/or compatibility conflicts
• Turn off your radio in any facility where posted notices instruct you to do
so, hospitals or health care facilities (Pacemakers, Hearing Aids and Other
Medical Devices) may be using equipment that is sensitive to external RF
energy.

Avoid Burns
WARNING
| Antennas
• Do not use any portable radio that has a damaged antenna. If a damaged
antenna comes into contact with the skin when the radio is in use, a minor
burn can result.
Batteries (If appropriate)
• When the conductive material such as jewelry, keys or chains touch exposed
terminals of the batteries, may complete an electrical circuit (short circuit
the battery) and become hot to cause bodily injury such as burns. Exercise
care in handling any battery, particularly when placing it inside a pocket,
purse, or another container with metal objects
Long transmission (If appropriate)
• When the transceiver is used for long transmissions, the radiator and
chassis will become hot.
