INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Use the Personal Anchor System (PAS) in combination with a girth hitch and locking carabiner to connect your harness to anchors and protection gear while at climbing and mountaineering belay stations. The PAS is one part of the safety system which protects the climber from a fall from height. The PAS does not stretch and will not absorb energy during a fall or shock-load situation. Climbing and mountaineering require the use of dynamic rope to absorb energy during a fall. Climbing gear strength ratings give the minimum breaking strength of the product. Loading climbing gear beyond its rated strength will cause it to fail. Dynex webbing cannot be tied with a knot. Adding knots to sewn sling can reduce its strength by up to 60%. (See accompanying illustrations)
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The PAS must not come into contact with corrosive materials such as battery acid, battery fumes, solvents, chlorine bleach, antifreeze, isopropyl alcohol or gasoline. A PAS requiring disinfection should be retired. (See accompanying illustrations)
STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
(See accompanying illustrations)
INSPECTION, RETIREMENT AND LIFESPAN
The maximum lifespan of Black Diamond Personal Anchor System (PAS) is up to 10 years from the date of manufacture (even if unused and properly stored). With normal use and proper care the typical lifespan of a PAS is two to five years. The actual lifespan can be longer or shorter depending on how frequently you use it and on the conditions of its use.
- Inspect your gear for signs of damage and wear before and after each use.
- Damaged gear must be retired and destroyed to prevent future use.
- Retire immediately if:
- There is a rip or hole in the webbing.
- If the webbing is burnt, singed or melted.
- There are any torn threads or heavy abrasion to the webbing or bar tacks.
- The webbing is faded due to exposure to sunlight.
- Factors that reduce the lifespan of climbing gear: Falls, abrasion, wear, prolonged exposure to sunlight, salt water/air or harsh environments.
- If you have any doubts about the dependability of your gear, or after a serious fall, retire it.
