**Flight Safety Guide*
USE OF A DRONE**
It is your responsibility to ensure the safety of people and other aircraft.
1. DO NOT FLY OVER PEOPLE
When using the drone, make sure you do not endanger nearby people or vehicles.
Do not fly over them and maintain a minimum safety distance. Keep well away
from groups of people.
2. RESPECT THE MAXIMUM FLYING ALTITUDES
Always respect the maximum altitudes to limit the risk of a collision between
your drone and other aircraft. In all circumstances, give way to manned
aircraft.
3. NEVER LET THE DRONE OUT OF SIGHT, AND DO NOT USE IT AT NIGHT
Keep the drone within your visual line of sight at all times. Immersive
flights (FPV) and the use of drones that automatically follow you are possible
only under certain conditions, notably in the presence of a second person to
ensure flight safety. Furthermore, in order to ensure the safety of aircraft
flying at low altitudes, such as helicopters performing rescue missions,
regulations forbid the use of drones at night, even if they are fitted with
lights.
4. DO NOT USE THE DRONE ABOVE PUBLIC AREAS
Flying a small drone over private land in the absence of other people is
possible provided you respect the maximum altitude and speed appropriate to
the immediate surroundings (building, trees, etc.) and which would minimize
risks. In no circumstances can you fly the drone above public areas.
5. DO NOT FLY THE DRONE NEAR AIRFIELDS
Do not use the drone near an airfield where airplanes, helicopters, gliders,
microlights, etc. may operate. Minimum safety distances are to be respected,
which may reach 10 km in the case of busy airports.
6. DO NOT FLY OVER RESTRICTED SITES
It is forbidden to fly over some restricted or protected sites, as well as
their surrounding areas. These include for example nuclear power stations,
military bases, and historical landmarks, as well as nature reserves and
national parks. Check if you are in such sites before beginning a flight.
7. RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE’S PRIVACY, DO NOT BROADCAST IMAGES TAKEN WITHOUT
THE PERMISSION OF THOSE CONCERNED, AND DO NOT USE THEM FOR COMMERCIAL
PURPOSES
People around the drone must be made aware of what you are doing, especially
if the drone is fitted with a camera. Inform those present, answer their
questions, and respect their right to privacy. Refrain from recording images
that would make it possible to recognize or identify people (faces, number
plates, etc.) without their permission.
8. ABOVE A CERTAIN WEIGHT, LEGAL OBLIGATIONS MAY APPLY. SEEK INFORMATION
FROM THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES
For example, the following requirements may apply:
- Registering the drone through the appropriate authorities;
- Fitting devices to restrict flying altitude, devices to emit an electronic/digital signal or devices to make its presence known through lights/sounds;
- Completing an online training course.
9. CHECK THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH YOU ARE INSURED TO UNDERTAKE THIS ACTIVITY
You may be held liable in case of damages caused to people, property on the ground or to other aircraft. Take out a specific insurance policy or check your liability policy.
10. ASK FOR INFORMATION IF IN DOUBT
For more information, please check with the local aviation authorities.
The use of an unmanned aircraft in conditions that do not comply with local
regulations may carry the risk of prosecution, substantial fines,s and prison
sentences.
ASK PERMISSION FOR IMAGES OF PROPERTY
Recording and broadcasting the image of property without permission from its
owner and or any third party holding intellectual property may constitute a
violation of the property’s image rights and you may be held liable. Ask
permission from its owner and/or any third party with ownership rights.
SINCE JANUARY 1st 2021
In relation to the introduction of new European regulations, before flying
your drone in the single European sky, you are submitted to a registration
obligation and must display your registration number clearly on your drone.
You are also submitted, at least, to an obligation to follow an online
training and to pass the associated theoretical examination. For additional
information of the matter, we are inviting you to make contact with your local
aviation authorities. In particular, we advise you to keep up to date with the
website of the following authority: https://www.easa.europa.eu/easa-and-you

OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE PILOTING MODE
The Obstacle Avoidance Piloting Mode (OAPM) operates differently when the drone is piloted directly (through the controller), and when the drone carries out an automated or assisted flight (Flight Plan and Vehicle Mission, for example). In direct piloting, the OAPM stops the drone soon enough to avoid collision with the environment. During automated or assisted flights, the OAPM navigates the drone between obstacles, which can lead to trajectories different of those expected.
**** The OAPM can be totally impaired by: low ambient light; a defective gimbal; a damaged or defective stereo camera; the consequences of an impact on the stereo camera – which may require a recalibration.
BEFORE FLYING
Check the stereo camera is perfectly clean and free. Dust and other residues
on its lenses may affect its performance. If the lenses require cleaning, wipe
it with a soft cloth. Never use detergent or alcohol to clean ANAFI Ai.
FLYING CONDITIONS
**** The performance of the OAPM can be affected by: lighting, nature of
obstacle surface, direction and speed of the drone, presence of water on the
stereo camera lenses (in case of rain for example).
Be especially careful when using the drone in the following conditions, as the
OAPM might not work optimally.
-
In front of surfaces or objects that are:
– monochrome (plain white or black, or any other color, without distinct texture or motive);
– reflective;
– water or transparent;
– mobile;
– very dark or very bright. -
In areas where the lighting conditions change drastically or very rapidly.
-
In rainy conditions.
Obstacles might not be avoided when the speed of the drone exceeds 10 m/s.
– DO NOT FLY in the fog or in poor visibility conditions.
– DO NOT OBSTRUCT the camera.
– DO NOT FLY the drone toward people, animals, small or thin objects (such as
tree branches or power lines), or transparent materials (glass, water).
– REMAIN ALERT DURING ALL FLIGHTS: keep control of the drone at all times.
– DO NOT RELY ON THE OAPM.
Flight assistance and safety functions as the OAPM are designed to help the
pilot, not to replace his control over the drone. Do not lose sight of the
drone and always remain focused on its flight. Rely on your own judgment to
control the drone and manually avoid obstacles. Be wary of obstacles, in
particular people and animals which may find themselves on the trajectory of
the drone. It is important to set an RTH altitude before each flight.
If the drone suffers an impact, a recalibration of its stereo camera may be
required. Follow in-app FreeFlight 7 instructions to carry out this
recalibration.
As illustrated by the following figure, Parrot asks ANAFI Ai pilots to be
especially careful when they back up their drone, as the OAPM has an
approximately 55° blind zone (or dead angle), behind the drone, toward the
ground.
