Dear customer,
congratulations for purchasing the MODSTER Digger.
All products are checked thoroughly on completeness and reliability, to make
sure, that the product is free from manufacturing and material errors. The
product is EMV-tested and complies with the requirements of applicable
European and national rules. Due to permanent developing and improvements of
our products we reserve the right to make technical changes or changes in
design and configuration.
This means, claims regarding small differences of your product compared to
data and images in this manual cannot be made. A responsible use of the
product serves to the security of your own and others. Please regard the
security-instructions in this manual!
Changes in terms of color and technical issues reserved.
WARRANTY-CONDITIONS
The manual to this product is part of this product, because ignoring its
information regarding use, run and safety leads to an expiration of the
warranty.
Keep this manual safe, especially for the case of giving it to a third party.
The warranty period for consumers is 24 months. If not statutory differently,
the warranty is limited to a repair with costs up to the purchasing prize
(that the customer had to pay), equal replacement of the product or refund of
the purchasing prize (that the customer paid).
Different claims in different countries are conceivable.
The warranty period stays the same, even in case of a repair or equal
replacement of parts.
We reserve the right for equal replacement of updated or new parts. Services
and repairs after the warranty period are with costs in any case.
The warranty contains manufacturing and material errors as well as errors
caused by normal use. Mechanically stressed parts are not included in the
warranty. We do not take any accountability for subsequent damages!
The following damages/cases are excluded from the warranty:
damages caused by not taking care of security instructions or the instruction
manual; act of God; collisions; inaccurate use; exceptional strain or external
influence; arbitrary changes or repairs not executed by authorized persons;
damages caused by losing control over the model; lightning strike or other
influence by high-voltage or electric. current; wearing parts; mechanically
stressed parts; normal abrasion; optical disturbances; transport, shipping or
insurance costs; costs for the professional removal of the product; costs for
setup- and recovery-work executed by our customer service

SECURITY INSTRUCTIONS
Please use the MODSTER Digger with responsibility!
As manufacturer, we do not have any direct influence on the correct use and
operation of the product. The following security instructions shall save you
and your environment from damages caused by improper use. But also the product
itself and your model are meant to be protected from any damage. Read this
chapter with high attention before using the product!
We don´t take any responsibility for any damage to property or persons, which
is caused by not taking notice of this manual or the safety instructions. In
these cases the warranty also expires. We also do not take responsibility for
subsequent damages.
Not appropriate for kids younger than three years of age! Contains small parts
– danger of suffocation!
Kids younger than 8 years of age should only use this product under the close
attention of an adult. Dispose the packaging material properly.
Before the start
Check with your insurance company, whether the operation of a radio-controlled
model is covered by your liability insurance.
If you have no experience in controlling RC models, first familiarize yourself
with the reactions to the control commands on the standing model. If
necessary, contact an experienced model builder or a model building club. If
necessary, seek the support of an experienced pilot.
Before commissioning, check the remote-control system and the model for
functional reliability and visible damage, e.g. defective plug connections or
damaged cables. All moving parts must work smoothly, but without bearing play.
Check all screw and plug connections, wheel nuts and electrical contacts for
tightness, because they can loosen during transport, while driving or in the
case of minor accidents. Lock the overlength of cables, so that they cannot
get into moving / rotating parts. Lines also must not be kinked.
Make sure, that all batteries are fully charged. Observe the separate
operating instructions for possible accessories.
Follow the switch-on sequence:
- Throttle/brake lever in neutral position
- Steering lever in neutral position
- First switch on the transmitter and then switch on the model
Otherwise the model may react unpredictably!
- Put the model in a starting position, where chains and power unit can rotate freely.
- Check the range of your remote control system before starting the model.
- Check the reaction of the servos to the remote control signals on the standing model.
- Make sure that the batteries of the transmitter and receiver are fully loaded.
- Weak batteries reduce the transmitter range and lead to errors in the signal transmission to the receiver. As a result, the model no longer reacts correctly to the remote control.
- Stop operating immediately and then replace the batteries with new ones or recharge them.
- Do not drive near high-voltage lines or radio masts or during a thunderstorm. Electrical fields and atmospheric disturbances can affect the signals of your remote control transmitter.
- After the operation switch off the model first, then the transmitter.
- For safety and approval reasons (CE), unauthorized repair attempts and the conversion and/or modification of the system are not permitted. Otherwise the approval of the remote control system expires.
Driving
Do not drive, if your ability to react is limited (e.g. fatigue, medication or alcohol). Incorrect reactions can cause serious personal injury and property damage. Do not drive too, if you have the slightest doubt about the flawless, technical condition of your model / your remote control system. If it is an electric model, connect the power unit AFTER the full installation of the transmitter, because otherwise the power unit could start to run accidentally. Always keep your model in direct sight.
Only operate the model on private premises or in designated areas. Observe the requirements and regulations for the terrain. When operating a model, always make sure that there are never any body parts or objects in the danger area of engines or rotating parts. Regularly check all screw connections and fastenings, as these can loosen or loosen during the operation.
Immediately stop operating your model in the event of a malfunction and rectify the cause of the malfunction before continuing to use the model. Avoid driving in low outside temperatures, as this will reduce the battery capacity and the plastic of the body will lose elasticity and splinter easily. Your model and the remote control system should not be exposed to direct sunlight, moisture, heavy pollution or excessive heat / cold for long periods. Only use original spare parts.
Do not drive…
- near or towards crowds of people or animals
- in nature reserves or at night or in living rooms, under high-voltage lines, radio masts or during thunderstorms
- electrical fields and atmospheric disturbances can influence the signals of your remote control transmitter
- please note, that RC models must not be driven on areas with public passenger and motor traffic, in the rain or in damp areas, as otherwise the electrical system could be damaged.
NOTIFICATION FOR BATTERIES OR RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES – IN GENERAL
Always store your batteries out of reach for children or animals, as they could accidentally swallow them. In this case immediately frequent a doctor! Leaking or damaged batteries can cause vitriolizes when touched. If your skin or eyes got in contact with the electrolytes, flush this place thoroughly with clear water and frequent a doctor.
Use appropriate gloves while disposing defect batteries. If you notice any irregularities like smell, changing colors, great heat or deformation of the battery, immediately disconnect it from the charger, transmitter or model. Dispose this battery!
Common alkaline-batteries (1.5 V) are for single use only and have to be disposed properly. Dispose empty or defect batteries at authorized collecting places. It´s not allowed to dispose them at home.
Batteries must not get wet or damp. Avoid the arise of condensed water. Never put batteries, chargers or models into a damp, very high- or very low-tempered area, also not next to open fire, ignition sources, dust, steam or thinners!
Also avoid heavy soiling and excessive mechanical stress on the battery, never pull the connection cables!
Never mix batteries and accumulators at the same time in one device! Use either batteries only or rechargeable batteries only.
If you don´t use brand-new batteries to power the transmitter, make sure that there is sufficient remaining capacity! Use a battery tester for this.
Operating with accumulators you need to have the shorter service life and radio range in mind, because there is a lower power then (batteries = 1.5 V, accumulators = 1.2 V).
Always replace the complete set of batteries/accumulators, not just individual cells. Always use batteries of the same type and manufacturer!
Do not mix batteries/accumulators with different charge levels. The weaker batteries/rechargeable batteries or the accumulators with a lower capacity could be deeply discharged and leak.
Make sure, that the polarity is correct when inserting batteries or rechargeable batteries in the battery holder. If the polarity is incorrect, not only your model, but also the battery will be damaged.
Batteries must never be short-circuited, damaged, disassembled or thrown into an open fire!
There is a risk of fire and explosion!
If the battery/accumulator is very hot, disconnect it immediately from the
charger! If the model is not used for a long time, remove the inserted
batteries or rechargeable batteries from the remote control and from the
model, to avoid damage from leaking / deeply discharged batteries/rechargeable
batteries.
Notes on charging
Observe the separate operating instructions for the charger used (not included
in the scope of delivery) and the specifications of the battery manufacturer.
Only load the batteries intended for this purpose, conventional alkaline
batteries must not be charged. There is a risk of explosion!
Only charge batteries of the same type and capacity. Also pay attention to the correct polarity for all electrical plug connections and when connecting the batteries to a charger. Only charge batteries under supervision, on a flame- retardant surface and keep sufficient distance from flammable surfaces or objects.
Check the temperature of the battery occasionally during the charging process. If the battery / accumulator heats up too much (> 50 ° C), it can be damaged. Reduce the charging current in this case. Batteries, that are already charged or not fully discharged must not be connected and charged.
Never charge / discharge damaged, leaked or deformed batteries. There is a risk of fire and / or explosion! If the model is not used, the battery must always be unplugged and removed from the model!
Use in accordance with regulations
The product is designed exclusively for private use in model making and with
the associated operating times. This product is not approved for commercial or
industrial use or for continuous operation. Improper use can endanger people
and damage the product and lead to associated dangers, such as loss of control
over the model, short circuit, fire, electric shock etc.
Please watch and follow the security instructions in this user manual. They contain important information regarding the use of this product.
This product is approved for children younger than 8 years of age only under the attention of adults.
FUNCTIONAL INSTRUCTION OF THE TRANSMITTER
CONTROL COMMANDS
DECODING & SWITCH-ON OF THE TRANSMITTER
2.4GHz frequency is applied on this product for remote controlling. The first time when using this product, please make sure the model is connected with the battery loaded in the transmitter firstly and then switch on the power. When it is switched on, it will start decoding automatically. When it sends out decoding sound of “Di” ”Di” ”Di”, this tells you, that the decoding has been successfully finished.
DIGGING ARM & PLATFORM OPERATION
LIGHT AND SOUND CONTROL
When the model starts, it will send out light and sound. Press the sound key
and you can switch off both sound and light at the same time. Press it again
to switch both on.
ISSUE OF SMOKING
During the course of playing when this mode is started press the Smoke-Key and
you can start the smoking function. Press it again to switch it off.
ISSUE OF ADDING WATER
Twist the latch firstly and then open the cover. As shown in the picture, please simply dip “the water” into the water-adding hole of the smoking gearbox. Close the cover and twist the latch.
CAUTION
Don´t fill in too much water! Half the bottle can be added at the most. Adding
too much water may cause non-smoking.
- Unscrew and open the cover on the back of the transmitter.
- Insert 4x 1.5 volt AA batteries. Make sure the polarity is correct!
- Close the cover again and screw it in place.
Commissioning the model
The model is already ready to drive and can be put into operation immediately
after the transmitter batteries and the driving batteries have been charged.
However, please check that all screws etc. are firmly seated. Carry out a
function check before every journey. The drive and control components are
assembled and wired, the connection between the transmitter and receiver is
automatic after each switch-on. After driving, the battery always has to be
unplugged and removed from the model!
WARNING!
Never operate the model with a faulty remote control!
Charging the drive battery
- ALWAYS charge the battery outside the model to avoid overheating. Use fireproof pads!
- Never disconnect the connector by pulling on the cables, always pull on the plug.
- Never charge the battery unattended!
- Plug the charger (USB) into a suitable power supply.
- The LED of the charge control display now lights up red.
- Now connect the battery to the charger.
- The LED now flashes red, the battery is being charged.
- If the LED goes out, the battery is fully charged.
- Disconnect the battery from the charger and then the charger from the power supply.
- Maximum charging time: 3 1/2 hours.
- Never charge unattended (e.g. not “overnight”)!
- Always load on a fireproof surface.
ATTENTION!
Before the battery can be used again after charging, it must also be
completely cool.
Insert and connect the drive battery
- Open the screw cap of the battery cover and remove the battery compartment cover.
- Place the drive battery in the battery holder and connect it.
- Close the battery compartment again, making sure that no cables are pinched.
- If the model is not used, the battery must always be disconnected and removed from the model!
- Only use original batteries / accumulators from MODSTER.
DRIVING / CONTROLLING THE MODSTER DIGGER
Observe the safety instructions for driving in this manual!
Make yourself familiar with the driving behavior of the model step by step.
Stand behind the model and steer it away from yourself first. The model’s
response to the controls is the same as when you would sit in the car driving
it.
Let the model drive on you afterwards. The reaction direction is now mirror-
inverted to the control direction.
Start now with simple driving exercises. Gradually increase the driving speed
and observe the driving behavior. Always keep direct visual contact with the
model.
Preparing to start
Please pay attention to the switch-on sequence. If this is not adhered to,
unintentionally triggered control commands can be sent to the model, which can
lead to damage and injuries.
- Set the on / off switch (12) of the remote control to ON / ON. The remote control LED flashes.
- Set the model’s ON / OFF switch (G) to ON. The LED on the remote control now lights up continuously.
- After driving is completed, switch off in reverse order and remove the drive battery from the model.
Vehicle control system
Overload protection: All functions of the model are equipped with an overload protective coupling. If the load is too high, this speaks, which is expressed in a rattling noise. If you hear it, immediately stop the executed control command, to avoid damage.
Demo button (11): The model has a demo mode. If this is activated, the model shows all functions automatically. You exit the demo mode by executing a control command or by pressing the demo button (11) again.
Recording function (9): The model has a recording function of control commands. Press button 9 on the remote control for this. All the control commands, that have now been carried out, are saved and, after pressing the record button (9) again, the saved commands are carried out automatically.
Driving: The left control stick of the remote control (1) controls the left chain of the model, the right lever (2) controls the right chain. To drive forward, push both levers forward, to reverse, push back. Pushing just one lever forward will turn the model into the opposite direction of the control command, allowing you to make a turn. Pushing one lever forward and the other one back makes the model turn on the spot.
Control the upper-carriage and boom: With buttons 3 and 4 on the remote
control, the upper-carriage (D) can be turned approx. 300 ° to the right and
left. Buttons 7 and 8 can be used to move the main arm (C) up or down. Button
6 can be used to move the front arm (B) up or down. Button 5 can be used to
move the bucket (A) up or down.
TOOL CHANGE
In addition to the excavator shovel, the gripper can alternatively be installed. The model must be switched off and the battery removed from the model. Loosen the bolts H and I of the model and take them out. Take off the board. Secure the lower part of the gripper with the bolt H. Push the upper part of the gripper over the lower part and secure it with the bolt I. Do not overtighten the screws/nuts, otherwise the gripper arm will not work.
MAINTENANCE / CARE
IOnly clean the model with a brush or a clean, damp cloth. Never bring the model, batteries and remote control into contact with water – risk of short circuit! The model, batteries and remote control must not be exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat. Always make sure, that all moving parts are easy to move. Check the model and the transmitter for visible damage, do not operate the model, if it is damaged.
DISPOSAL
General
Dispose the product at the end of its service life in accordance with the
applicable legal regulations (do not dispose in household waste!).
Batteries and accumulators
As the end user, you are legally obliged (battery-ordinance) to return all
used batteries and rechargeable batteries/accumulators; disposal in household
waste is prohibited! The symbols on the left indicate, that disposal with
household waste is prohibited. Batteries/rechargeable batteries/accumulators
containing harmful substances are additionally identified with the designations
for the decisive heavy metal.
You can return your used batteries/rechargeable batteries/accumulators free of charge to the collection points in your community or wherever batteries/rechargeable batteries /accumulators are sold. In doing so, you fulfill the legal obligations and make your contribution to environmental protection.
