BetterVent ‎ADR1BVC Indoor Dryer Vent Kit

Introduction

Your BetterVent should be located on a vertical wall as close as possible to the electric clothes dryer. It should not be exhausted into an attic, soffit, ridge vent or crawl space. Your BetterVent should be installed at a height convenient to the operator. Your BetterVent should be located in a position that will be easy for the user to access, clean, and maintain. We recommend that the exhaust line be a smooth-walled 4” metal pipe or a 4” metal flex duct designed for electric clothes dryers. We also recommend that the connection at the back of the dryer be made with a metal 90-degree fitting. The installation should have no more than two 90-degree turns. Vinyl flex ducts should never be used. For information and tips concerning the installation, please refer to our website (www.adr-products.com) or call customer service at 1-888-609-5512.

Installation

  1. Select a wall that allows you to meet the installation recommendations.
  2. Release the door latches and open the door. Steady the BetterVent against the wall and mark the screw locations.
  3. If the wall is concrete or plaster, drill a 1/4” hole at screw locations 1 1/2” deep and tap in the plastic anchors.
  4. If the wall is sheetrock, drill a 3/16” hole and tap in the plastic anchors.
  5. Position the BetterVent to align with the anchors and screw it to the wall.

Installing the exhaust line

  1. Determine if your dryer has a sidewall option for ducting. Choose a connection that will provide the shortest path. This might be the back of the dryer cabinet or sidewall.
  2. If the connection is at the back of the dryer cabinet, slide the dryer away from the wall and install a metal 90-degree fitting.
  3. Stretch out a small portion of the metal flex duct and make a connection to the dryer. Secure with a hose clamp.
  4. Carefully lead the flex towards your Better Vent and make the connection. Secure with a hose clamp.
  5. Your BetterVent is now installed and ready for calibration. Enjoy!

Calibrating the Safety Exhaust Flap

The Safety Exhaust Flap (SEF) is designed to alert the homeowner that the filter is completely loaded and needs to be cleaned or replaced. It remains in the open position until reset by the user. The SEF is to be calibrated by the homeowner using magnet-ic weights to match the exhaust output of the dryer.
The BetterVent comes with one 1/2” wide and three 3/4” wide, magnetic peel and stick strips. You will use the magnetic strips to weigh the SEF in order to keep it closed.
This procedure is quite simple and should take just a few minutes.

  1. First, make sure that you have cleaned the screen inside your dryer. This should be done after each dryer load as recommend-ed by the manufacturer.
  2. Next, take the 60 mil magnet, peel off the brown paper and attach it to the inside of the Safety Exhaust Flap. The 60-mil magnet is the smaller, thicker magnet included in your accessory pack.
  3. Now, you want to find a book, notebook, clipboard or magazine. Turn your dryer on and cover about 25% of the door.
  4. What should happen now is that either your Safety Exhaust Flap will open or stay closed. If it stays closed, continue to move upwards until the flap opens.
  5. If it opens before you reach 80% coverage of the door, add another peel-and-stick magnet to the top of the Safety Exhaust Flap and do the test again. Continue to add magnets until Safety Exhaust Flap opens at 80% coverage. Most users do not have to add more than 2 magnets.

Operating Instructions

  • Your BetterVent has been designed for easy maintenance. It is necessary that the user clean and service BetterVent as part of a regular laundry room routine.
  • Your BetterVent contains a screen filter and a polyester filter. The screen filter collects lint, pet hair, and other large debris and serves to extend the life of the polyester filter.
  • Filters are installed with a blue side to the INSIDE of the vent and placed between the removable screen and the door. You should see the white side of the filter when the door is closed.
  • The polyester media filter prevents fine lint dust from entering the indoor environment.

Cleaning

  • Cleaning the screen filter is easy. Simply release the door latches, lower the door, and (while leaving the screen in place) reach in and remove the accumulated lint with a sweeping motion of the hand.
  • Clean the screen frame every 3-5 dryer loads.
  • The polyester filter should be vacuumed or replaced when it becomes obstructed with lint. Do not wash.
  • A new polyester filter should be inserted with a white side facing out towards the room when the door is closed.
  • Replacement filters can be purchased from our website: www.adr-products.com/bettervent.

Can I use a different dryer?****

Yes, you can use a different dryer as long as it is electric and has an air- tight connection with the back of the dryer.

Can I use a different wall?****

Yes, you can use a different wall as long as it is vertical and has an air- tight connection with the back of the dryer.

Can I install BetterVent on an exterior wall?****

No, BetterVent should not be installed on an exterior wall.

What is the safest type of dryer vent?****

For secure dryer venting, you can utilize a 4-inch flexible aluminum foil duct that is UL 2158A-approved and labeled. Choose a product that has a high- density, corrosion-resistant wire helix and is made of heavy quality, fire- resistant aluminum foil. Keep in mind that only ducts with a length of 8 feet or less can be UL listed and labeled.

Are dryer vents easy to clean?****

A dryer duct is simple to clean. After manually removing the lint, vacuum the duct’s interior. To vacuum out as much of the duct as you can, use hose extensions if they are available. Remove the outside vent cover by going outside the house.

How long can the dryer vent be?****

The transition duct is not included in the exhaust duct’s maximum length. This means that vents must not exceed 35 feet in length and must also be as straight as feasible. This 35-foot figure is reduced by 5 feet for any 90-degree curves in the vent because they limit airflow.

I just realized the package specifically stated for Electric Dryers. Does that mean my gas dryer won’t be compatible with it?****

As a mold inspector, I can promise you that it also adds moisture to the space. Is that a smart idea considering that it also adds gases to space? Gas or electric dryer vents must always be vented outdoors, without exception.

The filters can be cleaned or reused? How long before they need to be replaced are you getting used to them?****

I reviewed the remarks below… I’m about to place an order for new filters. This system has been in my possession for about three months, and I even ordered a set of replacement filters when I bought it. I appreciate the advice because it seems like the filters need to be changed more frequently than is usually thought. The only issue I have with this system is the filters, which I have found to be effective. I wash clothes for my husband and myself, so it’s not a lot in my opinion.

Are indoor dryer vents a good idea?****

Mold and condensation issues might arise from venting your dryer into your home. Many homes in the winter may benefit from a little extra heat and perhaps even more moisture in the air. Home environments with low relative humidity can lead to issues with dry skin and nasal passages.

Why do you put water in an indoor dryer vent?****

Simply connect the flexible dryer exhaust line to the reservoir of these indoor dryer vent kits at the back of the machine. Inside the reservoir is water. According to the principle behind this product, the water functions as a filter and collects the lint. After each load, the homeowner is required to replace the water.

Can you clean the dryer vent from the inside only?****

You should now be able to clearly see through your dryer vent while standing within your laundry room (or nook). Any lint inside or around the hole should be removed using a shop vac or vacuum with a hose attachment. Use a handheld vacuum to complete this operation on the exterior duct if you have one.
