If you do not know how to assemble or install bicycle components or do not have all the necessary tools for the job, please contact a bicycle specialist to have the installation done properly. Otherwise, the cyclist may fall off and suffer serious injuries as a result of improper assembly or installation of the light components. Read this Instruction Manual carefully, follow all the steps described and keep it in a safe place.

This Instruction Manual uses the following signal words to alert you to potential hazards.
The meaning of the signal words is listed below:

The symbol is used to provide other useful information about your new bicycle lights.

Intended use
Busch + Müller offers a wide range of different bicycle lights. Not every bicycle light can be used for any application and for cycling on any surface. There are limitations. If you are not sure which type of bicycle light you have, either call our service hotline at +49 2354/9157111, send an e-mail to service@bumm.de, or consult a local specialist bicycle retailer.
NOTICE Bicycle lights made by Busch + Müller are suitable for use on bicycles cycling on a firm surface. Avoid any extreme use, and never ride downstairs or perform jumps, stunts, tricks, bunny hops, or vertical descents on rough terrain.

Legal Regulations
Before cycling on public roads, you must learn and observe at any time the applicable national laws and statutes as well as local regulations. For information, either consult the Road Traffic Regulations or – depending on your respective place of residence – other sources for information.
Never cover or conceal your bicycle lights. Always make sure the bicycle lights are correctly adjusted. In general, the prescribed mounting height ranges between about 40 and 120 cm. For details consult the Road Traffic Regulations or contact a local bicycle specialist retailer.

Assembly

Attach the rear light to the rack using the two fastening bolts on the rear and the enclosed fastening material. The rear light is designed for a 50 mm assembly dimension. Tighten the screws only to the extent of preventing the rear light from slipping or falling off. BREX works without an electrical connection to the brake lever.
Align the rear light so that it is perpendicular to the ground and parallel to the color track as shown in the sketch opposite. This is absolutely necessary for the correct function of the stoplight!
No overhead mounting: The 1 rear light must be above the 2 Z-reflector to ensure that the rear light is not mounted upside down.
Important: Lighting equipment must not be concealed at any time.

Power supply

Rear light exclusively for connection to a DC voltage source of 6 to 50V ( ) e.g. e-bike battery. Connection to an AC voltage source (e.g. dynamo) is not permitted! When connecting to an e-bike battery or to a headlight with DC output, use the plug contacts on the rear light and ensure correct polarity! Connecting this rear light is only permissible to vehicles that ensure power is still available to supply the lighting system for at least 2 hours after the battery has switched off due to discharge.

overview

Operation

The rear light is switched on and off via the vehicle display or via the headlight. If the speed is reduced significantly, the rear light illuminates much brighter to signalize the following traffic to slow down (stoplight).
In the event of an extreme reduction in speed (emergency braking), a very noticeable flashing of the stoplight warns the traffic behind of an abrupt braking maneuver (emergency stoplight function). This increases protection against rear-end collisions and can prevent accidents when cycling in convoys and with children!
Correct alignment of the rear light is a prerequisite for the proper functioning of the brake and emergency stoplight function (see: 6. Assembly).
Further remarks
If the bike is splashed with water, parked upside down in the rain, or transported on a car in the rain, seal the rear light (e. g. with plastic bags) to prevent moisture from entering the rear light.
Disposal: Rear lights with electronic components must not be handled as household waste but are to be disposed of as hazardous waste.
Liability
In addition to the above-mentioned exclusions of warranty, we do not assume liability for any and all other damage caused by improper handling (e.g. dropping the headlight, inadequate safety of mounting and its consequences, submersion in water or other liquids, etc.). Neither do we assume any liability if the rear light is opened or dismantled.
Have fun and enjoy safe cycling with your new rear light.
