VICON Capsule Waterproof Camera Casing for Vantage Camera
Introducing Vicon Capsule
Capsule provides protection for all Vicon Vantage and ViperX cameras that are installed in outdoor or exposed environments. In particular, it prevents the performance of the cameras from being affected by dust and moisture.
COMPONENTS
- External seal
- Front of Capsule (rear & front casing)
- Lens cover
- Vicon Vantage or ViperX camera
- O-ring x 2
- Ethernet cable with ferrite
- Thermal Interface Material (TIM)
- Curved surface for TIM
- Camera-mounting screws
- Internal Ethernet port
IP65-rated indicates that Capsule is suitable for general outdoor use. It may not meet the requirements for IP66(resistance to high-pressure water jets) or IP67 (submersion in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes). Conversely, equipment rated IP66 or IP67 does not necessarily achieve IP65 protection.
Specification and standards
Independently tested and certified to confirm:
- Operation between -5°C–35°C, 10%–98% RH
- Weatherproof IP65-rated enclosure (see infobox, right): dust-tight and protected against both water splashes, such as rain, and water projected from a nozzle.
Prepare a Vicon Capsule
- Open the Capsule by unfastening the two latches on the sides.
- Ensure that the two O-rings are in place in the two grooves around the edge of the backplate. If you have to fit the O-rings, push one O-ring into the first (slightly smaller) groove, and then push the other one past the first, into the second groove.
- Peel the clear plastic coating from the gray side of the Thermal Interface Material (TIM) and carefully stick the TIM to the curved surface on the inside of the backplate.
- Connect the ferrite end of the Ethernet cable to the port on the inside of the backplate. Place the front of the Capsule over the back, enclosing the camera that is attached to the backplate.
- Fasten the latches and press the front and back sections of the Capsule together so that the seal is airtight.
- Stretch the seal around the edge of the front window of the Capsule. First, push each of the four corners of the seal into the gap between the window and the housing. Next, starting with the center of each edge, firmly press the rest of the seal into the gap. To ensure the IP rating is maintained, check that the tightly fitting seal appears compressed around all the edges.
Important:
If you’re using a lens cover, ensure that it is fully in contact with the
window at the front of the Capsule.
Install the camera
- If a lens cover is required, fit it over the lens on the front of the camera by pressing until it clicks into place.
- Connect the free end of the Ethernet cable to the camera, then place the camera onto the backplate.
- Secure the camera to the backplate with the two screws supplied and tighten them.
Important:
Ensure the camera is square (parallel) with the backplate.
Seal the cable connection
Important:
To ensure the seal integrity, use only the RJ45 cable that is provided with
the Capsule unit.
- Ensure you have the required parts of the waterproof cable cover and the RJ45 cable. For non-molded cables only: To ensure a tight seal, add the supplied support between the housing (far left) and the split seal.
- Slip the back sealing nut and the split seal onto the cable.
- Push the cable as far as it will go into the front of the cover, so that the front of the plug slightly protrudes beyond the opening.
- Firmly push the seal fully into the front of the cover.
- Twist the back sealing nut onto the thread on the front of the cover.
- Remove the protective cap from the connection on the back of the Capsule, then attach the RJ45 cable by twisting the front of the cover until it clicks, which indicates that the connection is fully sealed.
- After the back sealing nut is screwed on tightly, ensure the RJ45 plug protrudes far enough. Before installation, test the connection by moving the cable in multiple directions at ground level to ensure a good connection is maintained.
Mount the cameras
Warning:
The assembled unit is heavy, so if it is mounted where the camera may fall and
injure people or equipment, tether it to its mount with a safety bond.Do not
mount the assembled unit from a ladder. Instead use a Mobile Elevating Work
Platform (MEWP) or Aerial Work Platform (AWP), such as a cherry picker. Before
using the camera, remember to remove the protective film from the window on
the front of the Capsule.
Re-use Capsules
You may remove cameras from their Capsules and replace them as many times
as required.
Important:
To ensure the integrity of the seal and that the enclosure continues to meet
IP65 standards, ensure that O-rings and all other parts, including TIMs, are
in good condition before use, and that installation is completed in accordance
with this guide.
Use Capsules in sunlight
If using cameras enclosed in Capsules in strong sunlight, high temperatures
or poor airflow, to prevent overheating, you may want to shade the Capsules or
provide additional cooling.
Warning:
As the rear panel can have elevated temperatures, avoid touching it during and
after the operation.
