Frequently Asked Questions

  • Want to connect the handheld to my mast antenna that has PL259 Is the antenna on the 155 removable and what type of connection is it?
Kids who have it at beech house might not see it for weeks.

  • Can the Atlantis 155 be recharged with an optional or universal AC charger?
The unit I purchased included a 120v AC adapter. If using a universal type AC charger, make sure to pay attention to the voltage/amperage/polarity requirements as you can destroy electronics very easily if using the wrong type. This information can be found in the included manual. We really like this radio for what it is, but do not expect a $500 radio at this price.

  • Is there a channel listing of all channels? Looking for channel 68 specifically.
The channel listing is posted in the link below. Starting on page 30. It does pick up channel 68.

  • It looks like there are some aux ports, does this radio have an aux plug for headphones? Is it still waterproof if it is using a headphone plug?\
It is not fully waterproof when headphones are in use.

  • Will this work in New Zealand?
This is a strange question, why wouldn’t work in NZ? I live in Uruguay and it works, this is a Radio that will work in all the world, and have all the international channels for navigation, its a standard.

  • Can I use channel 69?
Yes. It comes overloaded and clears.

  • Does it transmit GPS when transmitting a mayday?
No, this is not a GPS-equipped unit. You’ll have to spend significantly more on that capability.

  • It says 2 way— this means it is like a “walk-in talkie” right?
You can use several channels for two-way communication. Just not 16 & 13. Those are meant for the boat to boat or bridge communication. These radios are NOT toys. If channel 16 is used for casual conversation someone will get pissed. Like the FCC.

  • does this radio come with a charging cradle?
There is no charging cradle for this unit, but it does come with the needed cigarette cord.

  • Does it have any private channels for normal chatting, nonemergency related or do you need a separate two-way for that?
This unit does not have any privacy channels.

  • Will this unit operate completely on alkaline batteries? I do not want to recharge a battery or have to recycle and replace spent batteries.
Yes, it will. I keep an extra set in the boat.I am currently using the rechargeable batteries but tried both, works just fine

  • Does this use separate aaa cells and can you use non-rechargeable aaa batteries?
No and no – has it its own rechargeable battery pack.

  • How would this work for hunters on land & land emergencies?
my Unidem is great but i have only used it in Hout Bay, Speaking with members of the Yacht Club, it appears with it being VHF, getting rescue service inland probably not going to work.

  • does this radio come with a charging cradle?
I just purchased mine and it does NOT have a cradle. Only an aux plug No way to charge with AC

  • Where can I buy the plug to connect to the wall?
You would have to buy the DC to AC converter, we never manufactured an adapter to connect to the wall for this unit.

  • What are the specs for ac charger for Atlantis 155? can’t find info in the manual anywhere. the unit only came with a dc charger.
