MAINTENANCE

Important: Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by Uniden could void your authority to operate this unit. Your radio is set up to transmit a regulated signal on an assigned frequency. It is against the law to alter or adjust the settings inside the radio to exceed those limitations. Any adjustments to your radio must be made by qualified technicians.

To be safe and sure

  • Never open your radio’s case.
  • Never change or replace anything in your radio except the batteries.

Your radio might cause TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To determine whether your radio is causing the interference, turn it off. If the interference goes away, your radio is causing it. Try to eliminate the interference by moving your radio away from the receiver. If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using the radio.

Hazardous Environments

Do not operate the radio in hazardous environments. Explosion or fire may result. Do not operate the radio near unshielded electrical blasting caps.

Under certain conditions, radios can interfere with blasting operations and may cause an explosion. Turn your radio OFF to prevent accidental transmission when in a blasting area or in areas posted: “Turn off two-way radio.” Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives.

Care and Safety

To clean the radio, use a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use cleaners or solvents because they can harm the body of the unit and leak inside, causing permanent damage. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the battery contacts. Do not submerge the unit in water. If the unit gets wet, turn it off and remove the batteries immediately.

Dry the battery compartment with a soft cloth to minimize potential water damage. Leave the battery compartment cover off overnight to ensure complete drying. Do not use the radio until the unit is completely dry. WARNING!  Read this information before using the radio

In August 1996 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States with its action in Report and Order FCC 96-326 adopted an updated safety standard for human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC regulated transmitters.

Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standard previously set by both U.S. and international standards bodies. The design of the radio complies with the FCC guidelines and these international standards.

Never allow children to operate the radio without adult supervision and the knowledge of the following guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a base station always to charge them, or can I charge them from my laptop? What is the actual usb on the talkie, mini, micro?

This unit comes with microUSB Y charge cord to charge the radios. Radios need to be off to charge for 16 hours.

What is the radius in miles, not acres?

They are rated for 16 miles in ideal conditions using high power. in actual usage it will generally be quite a bit less range.

Can you use the radios while charging them?

No.

What size is the headset jack on the sx167-2ch?

2.5mm

Can you charge these?

You can charge these. The range on the unit is based on clear line of site while boosted on a high power frequency.

What is the usb connection on the actual talkies units, mini-usb, or micro- usb, something else? can i charge them from directly my laptop via usb?

They are powered by batteries.

What is the radius?

We use these in our office to the equipment yard easily 1/2 an acre radius.

How long do the charges last. These came fully charged but after 30 minutes of testing them, the battery was depleted on one of them.

Usually mine last about 8 hours. The radios themselves generally don’t last too long as far as wear and tear go.

Will this work with other radios of the same model? I.e. if i buy multiples of this radio, will they all work together?

Yes, as long as all units are on the same channel, they will all work together.

Can you override the the loud confirmation tone ?

There is no option to override that, unfortunately.

Can I use this with other radios?

Excuse me but unless the product page is lying you CAN use it with other radios. From the product page “These channels operate on industry-standard frequencies, so you can easily communicate with people using other models or brands.”

How good are they on a cruise ship?

I just returned from a cruise in which 6 people used FRS/GMRS radios to stay in contact. We had not problems and never had an issue that prevented contact. The radios worked no matter how far on the ship we were separated.

Are Uniden walkie-talkies reliable?

The range is typically measured in ideal conditions, therefore the reliable range is typically between 25 and 50 percent of what is quoted (unlike the real world). The battery life is also respectable. Overall, I would advise the casual user to utilise these. They provide good value for the money.

How can I charge my walkie-talkie from Uniden?

Connect the UH45 radio’s micro USB port to one end of the cable, and the AC adapter to the other (not included). Into the wall outlet insert the AC adapter. Charge the rechargeable batteries for 16 uninterrupted hours before using the radio. When the radio is charging, avoid transmitting.

How long does it take to charge an Uniden walkie-talkie?

After 16 hours of charging, take the batteries out of the radio’s charging cradle.

How are Uniden walkie talkies dialled?

You must let go of the PTT button to receive calls. Push the Push-to-Speak (PTT) button in front of your face to broadcast (talk). Hold the radio vertically and keep the antenna, microphone, and all other radio components at least one inch (2.5 centimetres) away from your mouth or nose.
