OUTDOOR INSTALLATIONS
Select electric fireplaces are suitable for outdoor areas protected from
direct water impingement. The fireplace shall not be installed in a standalone
structure, even if the following requirements are met. In addition to
maintaining the listed mantel and combustible clearances, a rain protection
overhang factor of ½ shall be constructed to the front and each side of the
installed fireplace. See the illustrations below. When installed, the
fireplace shall be installed on the exterior of a main structure/building. All
wiring connections to line power shall be by local building code requirements.
The overhang(A) must extend at least 1/2 the roof-line height. Height is measured from the base of the fireplace. For example: if the roof-line(B) is 8 feet above the base of the fireplace, the overhang(A) must be at least 4 feet.
