UNTWIST TOOL V2 OPERATION MANUAL
*IMPORTANT] The first and single most important step when using the Untwist Tool V2 is cutting your pairs with a sharp pair of flush cutters. Using dull cutters will make the Untwist Tool V2 problematic.
**OPERATION
**
The Untwist Tool V2 offers a single two-position button that can turn the Tool
Head both Clockwise and Counter-Clockwise. For untwisting most CAT5e and CAT6
cables you will be using the Counter-Clockwise side of the button which is the
furthest from the Tool Head and closest to the USB Charging Port. See FIG.1
above for the location of the “COUNTER-CLOCKWISE button.
STEP 1: After prepping your cable for untwisting, press the driver’s
Counter-Clockwise button (shown in FIG. 1) and slowly insert the pair straight
into the Tool Head keeping the pair aligned with the driver.
STEP 2: When the pair meets the center of the Tool Head’s blades, keep a
very slight pressure (don’t force it) and allow the Tool Head to separate the
tips of the pair.
STEP 3: Once the Tool Head has started separating the pair’s tips, apply more pressure and feed the pair through the Tool Head.
STEP 4: Once the Tool Head has reached the base of the pair, release the driver’s Counter-Clockwise button and pull the Tool Head straight back off of the pair.
STEP 5: Repeat the above four steps on the remaining three pairs.
STEP 6: Once all pairs are untwisted, the eight straightener grooves on the side of the Tool Head can be used to get all of the conductors perfectly straight and ready for termination.
CHARGING THE DRIVER:
The Untwist Tool V2’s driver has an internal rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery
that needs to be charged after several hours of continuous use. When the
battery gets low, the performance of the tool will start to diminish. To
recharge the battery, simply connect the included Micro USB cable to the back
of the driver and connect the other end to a USB power source such as a
computer, phone charger, or other USB port with 5V power. When properly
connected, a red LED will illuminate below the Micro USB port indicating power
is present and the device is charging. Charging the driver typically takes
only 40 minutes. When charging is complete, the charging LED will turn off.
Remove the USB charging cable and you are ready to go!
TROUBLESHOOTING
Still, having some issues? Here are some additional tips to help you get your Untwist Tool V2 working for you:
- CHARGE THE BATTERY: When the driver’s battery starts to get low, the tool’s ability to untwist gets diminished. See the “CHARGING THE DRIVER” section of this manual for more information on charging.
- USE SHARP CUTTERS: Using dull or old cutters will smash the ends of your pairs and the Untwist Tool V2 will not work properly. Make sure you are cutting your wire with a sharp pair of Flush Cutters; a clean cut of the pair is so important. We recommend Klein Tools D275-5, Simply45 801, or Platinum Tools 10531 Flush Cutters for prepping your cable before using the Untwist Tool V2.
- MAKE IT STRAIGHT: Make sure your twisted pair is straight without any bends. The mechanism inside the Tool Head works best when everything is coming at it straight on. Keep your pair completely in line with the driver when inserting.
- CAT5e & CAT6 ONLY: Make sure you are using CAT5e or CAT6 cable. The Untwist Tool V2 is not designed for CAT6A or CAT7 cable. That version is coming soon!
- CLEAN THE TOOL HEAD: Check for debris in the Untwist Tool V2’s Tool Head. Depending on how and where you store your Untwist Tool V2, it may have debris accumulated inside the Tool Head. Make sure the Untwist Tool V2 head is completely clean of dirt and debris.
- CONDUCTOR TOO BIG: If you’ve followed all of the steps in this manual and still can not get the Untwist Tool V2 working properly, it is possible you have a conductor that is too big for the Untwist Tool V2. We’ve tested the Untwist Tool V2 on hundreds of CAT5e and CAT6 cables and while it worked on 99% of them, we ran across several cables with strange specifications that the Untwist Tool V2 did not work with. If conductors have abnormally large insulation surrounding the conductor, they will not fit between the Untwist Tool V2’s blades.
WARRANTY:
The Untwist Tool V2 tool head comes with a limited lifetime warranty. The
Untwist Tool V2 driver comes with a 1-year warranty. This warranty protects
against defects in workmanship and does not cover damage from drops, moisture,
abuse, or other forms of product neglect.
