ETHER S9FX Modulated Reverberator Pedal
What is the Ether?
A dark, cavernous void. Eerie, shimmering reflections. Temporal shifts
twisting your thoughts, echoes fading in and out of reality, frequencies
intertwined phasing across one another… yet in all this madness there is
nothing but sonic bliss. Endless creativity. Welcome to the world of Ether. A
compact modulated reverberator delivering vast ambient and shimmering
soundscapes with endless tails, further manipulated by tap tempo vibrato,
tremolo, and harmonic tremolo effects. The Ether will take you to new heights.
Let’s dig in…
What do the knobs do?
- Speed: Changes the speed of the modulation LFO. Turn this CCW for slower rates and CW for faster rates.
- Depth: This center detent knob offers 3 different LFO waveforms. In the center position, you have a special fixed waveform for each of the modulation types – Quasi Random for Vibrato, Square for Tremolo, and Flutter Triangle for Harmon-ic Tremolo. Turning CW from the center adjusts the depth of the sine wave LFO, and turning CCW from the center adjusts the depth of the sawtooth LFO.
- Decay: Controls the decay time of the reverb ranging from a small room to an infinite, cavernous reverberation.
- Color: Controls the filtering of the reverb. This knob has a center detent which bypasses the filter feature. As you turn the knob to the left, you darken the reverb, removing highs. As you turn to the right, you brighten the reverb, removing lows.
- Level: Changes the amount of reverb in the mix.
What do the switches do?
- MOD/SHIMMER: This momentary switch selects the modulation type and voice of the reverb. Clicking to the left will cycle between Vibrato, Tremolo, and Harmon-ic Tremolo modulation modes. Clicking to the right will either turn on or off the Shimmer reverb setting. This also allows you to select trails and ramp directions without having to touch the dipswitches inside. Hold the Tap switch and click this switch to the left to select either a ramp up or down for the ramp function. Hold the Bypass switch and click this switch to the right to turn on tails or true bypass.
- Tap (Off): Tapping this switch sets the tempo of the modulation. Holding this switch turns off the modulation.
- Bypass (Infinite): This footswitch engages or bypasses the reverb. Holding this switch engages the Infinite reverb function which will gradually fade when released. Holding both Tap and Bypass switches will engage Infinite decay along with LFO ramping for modulation.
What about dip switches and power?
Internal Dip Switch: These 2 switches set the default bypass and ramp
direction when the Ether powers up. These features can also be changed using
the footswitches and MOD/SHIMMER switch.
Dip 1: This switch sets the direction of the Ramp function. Set to ON, the LFO
ramps down, slowing the modulation. Set off, it ramps up, speeding up the
modulation.
DIP 2: This switch sets the bypass. Set ON, the Ether is in trails mode with
buffered bypass. When bypassed, the reverb signal will fade gradually. When
set OFF, the Ether is in true bypass mode. When bypassed, the reverb will cut
immediately.
9VDC: The Ether requires a negative ground, 9V DC power supply with a 2.1mm
barrel plug, and a negative center. The Ether draws approximately 70mA of
current.
