General Guidelines

  • Refer to the Velleman® Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of this manual.
  • Familiarise yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it.
  • All modifications of the device are forbidden.
  • Only use the device for its intended purpose. Using the device in an unauthorized way will void the warranty.

Use

  • Refer to the illustrations on pages 2 and 3 of this manual.
  • Press the ON/OFF button to switch the device on. Press again to switch it off.
  • The device powers off automatically after +2min. To disable auto-power off, press and hold the button while switching the device on. To re- enable auto-power off simply switch the device off and on again.
  • Point the meter towards a sound source to measure the sound level.
  • Making sure the meter is held steady while measuring vibrations will create faulty measurements. Consider mounting the device on a tripod (not incl.) for longer and more stable measurements.
  • Note: In windy environments, use the windscreen [1] to cancel out the effect of wind on the measurement.
  • Press the Auto/Manu button to switch between automatic range mode (AUTO [E]) and manual range mode (MANUAL [F]).
  • Note: to measure short, high impact sounds the meter should be used in manual range mode.
  • When in manual range mode and the sound level is unknown, always start measuring in the highest range and switch to a lower range when necessary.
  • The meter will indicate UNDER [B] when the selected range is too high.
  • Press the-button to lower the range.
  • The meter will indicate VER [C] when the selected range is too low. Press the button to select a higher range.
  • When the battery indicator [H] is shown, replace the batteries (see $8).
  • Always place the sensor cover [1] back when the device is not in use.

Operation tips

  • Do not use the meter in high temperature or high humidity environments (see technical specifications).
  • Note that the meter is not designed for altitudes above 2000m (656ft).
  • Always wait at least 2 seconds to power the meter on after power was switched off.
  • Make sure the device is at ambient temperature for accurate measurements.
  • Remove the batteries when the device is not used for a long time.

Maintenance

Wipe the device regularly with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents. DO NOT submerge the device in any liquid.

Batteries

  • To replace the batteries, make sure the device is switched off.
  • Open the battery cover at the back by sliding it downwards (away from the sensor).
  • Take out the old batteries and replace them with 3 new and identical 1.5V AAA batteries following the polarity markings inside the battery compartment.
  • Slide the battery cover back in place.
  • Do not puncture or throw batteries in fire.
  • Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations.
  • Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Keep batteries away from children.
