Neither the manufacturer nor the supplier accept liability for damage caused by improper or incorrect use.

Safety instructions

WARNING!

Risk of explosion and fire!
Improper handling of the battery increases the risk of explosion and fire.

  • Never expose the motorcycle battery to severe heat such as naked flames or similar phenomena.
  • Keep it away from very hot surfaces, such as exhausts.
  • Do not use the battery in an explosive atmosphere or in the proximity of highly flammable liquids, gases or dust.
  • Avoid strong mechanical influences on the battery.
  • Do not overcharge the battery, and be sure to use suitable chargers.
  • Cannot be jump-started, e.g. bridging car to motorcycle.

WARNING!

Danger for children and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities (e.g. partially disabled persons, elderly persons with reduced physical and mental abilities) or lack of experience and knowledge (e.g. older children)!

  • Store the battery away from children.
  • Maintenance may not be carried out by children.
  • Keep small parts and packaging film away from children, as there is a danger of suffocation.

CAUTION!

Risk of short circuit!
Improper handling of the battery increases the risk of an electric shock. The battery has a splash guard (relevant against weathering and cleaning of the motorcycle). Under no circumstances may the battery be immersed in water.

  • Never connect the terminals to metallic objects, as this may lead to an electric shock or short circuit.
  • The terminals of the battery may not be soldered.
  • Ensure the positive and negative terminals are connected correctly.
  • Never touch the battery or its accessories with wet hands.
  • Do not bend the connecting cables and do not lay them over sharp edges.

  • Do not open the casing and do not make any changes to the battery or its accessories.

Risk of chemical burns!
The battery is pre-filled with battery acid and sealed at the factory. Do not open the battery under any circumstances. If the battery housing is damaged due to improper use, observe the following points:

  • When working with defective AGM batteries, always use protective goggles, acid-resistant protective gloves, an apron and a face mask.
  • After contact with the skin (or hair): remove/take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Rinse skin with water/take a shower.
  • Upon contact with eyes: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
  • Always consult a doctor.

IMPORTANT!

Risk of damage!
Improper handling of the battery can lead to damage to the battery.

  • Do not open the battery, do not drill into it, and do not exert force on it.
  • Protect the battery from violent mechanical impacts.
  • Follow the safety instructions in the instructions for use for your motorcycle.
  • Deep discharge of the battery leads to loss of capacity and can cause the battery to freeze at corresponding temperatures.

Initial start-up

Check the battery and the scope of delivery.

  1.  Remove the battery and accessories from the packaging.
  2.  Check whether the delivery is complete (see Section 1).
  3.  Check whether the battery or the individual parts are damaged. Contact the manufacturer via the specified service address if they are.

5 | Use

Correct battery type

Always ensure that the battery you are installing is the correct type for your vehicle, and is recommended for your model by the vehicle manufacturer. You can generally do this by looking in your vehicle handbook or by checking the designation on your old battery (e.g. YTZ10S).
Prior to commissioning the battery, always check the following:

  1.  Does the battery fit your vehicle? Are the dimensions correct (height x width x depth)?
  2.  Are the positive and negative terminals in the right position?
  3.  Does the battery have the correct voltage (V = volt)?
  4.  Does the battery have the correct capacity (Ah = ampere-hours)?
Charging

IMPORTANT!

Risk of damage!
In spite of being factory pre-charged, the battery must always be 100% fully charged prior to installation. This must be carried out using a suitable motorcycle charger. Failure to do so will shorten the service life of your battery considerably and may damage the battery.

WARNING!

Risk of explosion and fire!

  • Never use a car battery charger to charge your motorcycle battery. They supply a charging current that is too high and overcharge the comparatively small motorcycle battery, which can cause an explosion in the most extreme cases.
  • Only use chargers that are specifically designed for AGM motorcycle batteries. The charging current must not be higher than 10% of the battery capacity (e.g. for a battery capacity of 10 Ah, a maximum charging current of 1 amp).
  • Charging voltages of up to 14.8 V are no problem for DELO AGM batteries; the optimum
The end-of-charge voltage is 14.7 V. Please also note the individual information provided on the top of the battery in this regard.
After charging, firmly secure the battery in the clean battery compartment.
5.3 | Installation/removal

Before you remove the old battery, switch off all the electrical devices on your motorcycle. Disconnect the earth connection (–) first of all, then the positive terminal (+), and then remove the old battery.
After you have ensured that the DELO AGM battery corresponds to the features of the original battery, install the DELO battery
in the appropriate location. The battery cables are connected in reverse order – remove the sticker and connect the positive cable to the positive terminal (+) first of all, and then connect the earth cable (–) to the negative terminal. In this regard, be sure to use the terminal screws supplied. Prior to connection, clean the cable terminals of the battery cable with a wire brush (corroded terminals can cause the motorcycle’s electrical system to malfunction!) and then protect against corrosion with terminal grease. Do not use excessive force to tighten the screws, as this may distort the battery terminals and damage the battery.

Storage

Store the disused and removed battery in a cool, frost-free, dry and well- ventilated place, away from flammable, explosive or metallic objects. DELO AGM batteries should be charged at the latest when the voltage drops to 12.2 V. In this regard, automatic chargers are suitable for motorcycles that imitate the charging and discharging behaviour of a built-in motorcycle battery.

Maintenance

DELO AGM batteries have low self-discharge, and therefore do not necessarily have to be kept permanently on trickle charge when not in use on your motorcycle. Nevertheless, they lose capacity daily and must be recharged during longer periods of disuse. Therefore, removing the battery from the vehicle is recommended.
DELO AGM batteries should be charged at least every 4 weeks.
If the battery remains installed and connected, your motorcycle’s electrical system may drain the battery even sooner. Ensure, therefore, that no silent electrical devices are active (e.g. alarm system, clock) and that no leakage currents are draining the battery. Discharged AGM batteries can sulphate (crystallise) which can lead to a loss of performance or even complete destruction of the battery. As such, ensure that the battery is regularly charged with a charger that is suitable for motorcycle batteries. Nevertheless, if deep discharge (under 12 V) occurs in spite of these precautions, you should use a suitable automatic charger that is designed for motorcycle batteries and is able to adapt the charging current to the state of your battery. This type of charger delivers the somewhat higher initial voltage needed to recover a deeply discharged battery.
Do not open the battery under any circumstances. Do not top up with battery acid or distilled water. The battery is maintenance-free and, as described above, should only be charged at regular intervals.

Troubleshooting

In the event of a fault occurring, try to resolve it with the following measures first of all:

Fault Possible causes and remedies
The battery will not start your vehicle. The battery is flat.

•   Please check whether the battery in the motorcycle has been drained by leakage current or a silent electrical device. Many modern motorcycles still use power even when switched off, e.g. for the alarm system, on-board diagnostics, USB adapter, etc. A quiescent current of 5 mA is not uncommon, but it adds up quickly over an extended idle time. Over 24 hours, 5 mA corresponds to

0.12 Ah, over seven days it corresponds to

0.84 Ah, and over one month it corresponds to 3.60 Ah.

•   Was the battery charged with a maximum charging voltage of 14.8 V and a maximum charging current according to the battery label (10% of the capacity)? A higher charging voltage or charging current than specified could have damaged the battery. Check the charge controller and/or its charger in this regard.

•   If the charging voltage was too low when charging the battery, it may not be sufficiently charged.

Fault Possible causes and remedies
Smoke is escaping from the battery and the casing is extremely hot. The

charging voltage or charging current is too high (possible causes e.g. incorrectly mounted battery terminal, defect on the voltage controller and/or the alternator).

•   Please see Section 5.2. Too high a charging voltage or charging current can damage the battery and even destroy it in extreme cases.

•   The battery may not then be used anymore.

The motorcycle can only be started with a great deal of effort.| It may be the case that the voltage is too low.

•   Check the battery’s charge level. The battery may be drained after a long idle time and due to connected electrical devices. Charge the battery with a suitable charger.

The outside temperatures are around or are below freezing point.

•   At temperatures around freezing point, the chemical process in the battery is slowed down and the maximum starting power is reduced. This can lead to starting difficulties in powerful single and twin-cylinder engines.

The battery won’t charge.| The battery may be deeply discharged and sulphated.

•   It may be possible to regenerate the battery with a charger that has a desulphation function. However, it should be noted that the battery has suffered irreparable damage as a result of the deep discharge, resulting in a loss of performance.

Warranty

Your DELO AGM battery comes with the usual two-year warranty. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, use of the battery for anything other than the intended purpose, damage caused by an accident, or unauthorised or inexpert modification or repair, or changes to the technical specification. The warranty also does not cover damages caused by improper storage or maintenance.

Disposal

Packaging disposal
Please dispose of the packaging properly. Dispose of card and cardboard with the waste paper and dispose of plastic film with recyclables.

Disposing of the AGM battery
