General information
2.1 | Reading and keeping the instructions for use
These instructions for use apply exclusively to the Delo Power Air Filter.
They contain important information on installation, safety, and the warranty.
Read these instructions carefully, in particular the safety instructions,
before installing the power air filter. Failure to adhere to instructions can
cause damage to the power air filter or to the vehicle. Keep these
instructions for future reference. If you pass the power air filter on to a
third party, you must also hand over these instructions.
The instructions for use are based on the standards and regulations applicable
in the European Union and reflect current state-of-the-art technology. If
abroad, you should also observe country-specific guidelines and laws.
2.2 | Explanation of symbols
WARNING! The following symbols and signal words are used in these
instructions. This symbol/signal word indicates a hazard with a medium risk
level which, if not avoided, may result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION! This symbol/signal word indicates a hazard with a low-risk level
which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.
IMPORTANT! This signal word warns of possible material damage.
This symbol indicates useful additional information about assembly or usage.
**** This symbol indicates that the packaging and product can be recycled.
Safety
3.1 | Intended use
The Delo Power Air Filter is intended for classic motorbikes, show bikes, and
sports vehicles. It does not have approval for use on the roads for any
specific model and therefore must not be used where the German Road Traffic
Licensing Regulations (StVZO) apply. It can be used in place of the original,
existing airbox on motorcycle carburetors with the appropriate air filter
flange if tuned to run the air-fuel ratio richer and a load-bearing mount is
provided for the carburetor/carburetor battery. Approval for use on the roads
can only be obtained by way of an individual component approval issued by a
testing engineer with the authority to issue such approvals (e.g. a TÜV
engineer).
The power air filter must only be used as described in these instructions. Any
other use is considered improper use and may result in personal injury or
material damage. The manufacturer and supplier accept no liability for damage
caused by improper or incorrect use.
3.2 | Safety instructions
WARNING!
The danger for children and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental
abilities (e.g. partially disabled persons, elderly persons with reduced
physical and mental abilities) or lack of experience and knowledge (e.g. older
children)
The product includes small parts and packaging which could be swallowed. Keep
these out of the reach of children, as there is a risk of asphyxiation if they
are swallowed.
CAUTION!
Risk of injury!
- When installing the air filter, ensure that the vehicle cannot topple over and that the workplace is well lit.
- The modified dimensions of the air filter can cause you to become caught and sustain injuries.
CAUTION!
Risk of accident!
- The power air filter must be firmly installed. Mounting on the motor side only in rubber mounts is not sufficient. If the power air filter falls off, it can put other road users at risk and cause accidents.
IMPORTANT!
Risk of damage
- The modified airflow requires the air-fuel ratio to be tuned and some modified carburetor components. Otherwise, the engine may run too lean as a result of the increased airflow, which will cause the engine to overheat and at worst can cause engine damage.
Installation
4.1 | Preparation
First, jack up the motorcycle securely in a well-lit place.
Remove the original, existing airbox in accordance with the specifications
from a workshop manual for the vehicle model. Check whether the new power air
filter can be clamped to the carburetor flange and fits on the vehicle.
4.2 | Installation
If the power air filter can be installed on the motorcycle, a rear mount then
has to be fashioned for the carburetor which reliably prevents the carburetor
from coming loose from the flange on the cylinder head now that the original
airbox is omitted.
The carburetor (all carburetors when using multiple power air filters) then
has to be tuned to run richer. This must be performed individually to suit the
specific vehicle and in accordance with any other tuning accessories which may
be in use. There is no general recipe for tuning. It is best to use a ready-
made carburetor tuning kit (e.g. Dyonet carburetor kit level 3 or higher)
which includes specially produced jet needles and main jets for the respective
vehicle model.
If you are not able to acquire such a kit, you will have to perform tuning
yourself. In order to find the optimum tuning, engine test runs have to be
carried out, if possible on a dynamometer.
Storage
Until you’re ready to install the Delo Power Air Filter, keep it in its original packaging and store in a place that is protected from weather and moisture.
Cleaning and care
Clean the power air filter in warm water with a little washing-up liquid. Do not under any circumstances use petroleum ether, solvents or any other aggressive chemicals for learning purposes. The rubber flanges can be treated with a little rubber care product after cleaning and a little polishing wax can be applied to chrome parts for protection. The filter is not reinstalled until it has completely dried.
Warranty
This product comes with a statutory two-year warranty. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. It does not cover normal wear and tears, use for anything other than the intended purpose, or damage caused by an accident, tampering, or attempted repairs by unauthorized persons or customer service departments.
Disposal
Dispose of packaging material and the product itself in accordance with applicable local regulations.
