Risk of explosion and fire!
Improper handling of the battery increases the risk of explosion and fire.
- Never expose the motorcycle battery to severe heat such as naked flames or similar phenomena.
- Keep it away from very hot surfaces, such as exhausts.
- Do not use the battery in an explosive atmosphere or in the proximity of highly flammable liquids, gases or dust.
- Avoid strong mechanical influences on the battery.
- Do not overcharge the battery, and be sure to use suitable chargers (also see Section 6.2).
- Cannot be jump-started, e.g. bridging car to motorcycle.
WARNING!
Risk of electric shock!
Improper handling of the battery increases the risk of an electric shock. The
battery has a splash guard (relevant against weathering and cleaning of the
motorcycle). Under no circumstances may the battery be immersed in water.
- Never touch the terminals with metallic objects, as this may lead to an electric shock or short-circuit.
- The terminals of the battery may not be soldered.
- Ensure the positive and negative terminals are connected correctly.
- Never touch the battery or its accessories with wet hands.
- Do not bend the connecting cables and do not lay them over sharp edges.
- Do not operate the battery if there is visible damage.
- Do not open the casing and do not make any changes to the battery or
its accessories. In the case of repairs carried out independently, improper connection or incorrect use, liability and warranty claims are excluded.

- The electrolyte in the battery is corrosive. Therefore, never open the battery. In the event of contact with the skin or eyes, rinse off or out with plenty clear water for several minutes and immediately seek medical attention.
NOTE! Risk of damage!
Improper handling of the lithium-ion battery can lead to damage to the
battery.
- Do not open the battery, do not drill into it, and do not exert force on it.
- Protect the battery from violent mechanical impacts.
- Follow the safety instructions in the instructions for use for your motorcycle.
- Deep discharge of the battery leads to loss of capacity and can cause the battery to freeze at corresponding temperatures.
Initial start up
Check the battery and the scope of delivery.
- Remove the battery from the packaging.
- Check whether the delivery is complete (see Section 1.)
- Check whether the battery or the individual parts are damaged. Contact the manufacturer via the specified service address if they are.
- Before it is used for the first time, the battery must be fully charged with a suitable charger.
Use
Correct battery type
First of all, check whether the battery fits in your motorcycle’s battery
compartment.
Because lithium-ion batteries have a much higher cranking power than
conventional motorcycle batteries, the number of ampere hours can be up to
approx. 2/3 fewer than originally specified by the manufacturer without any
problems. Modern DELO lithium-ion batteries can be used instead of
conventional standard acid or AGM batteries in many situations, as long as the
charging voltage in the motorcycle’s charging circuit does not exceed 14.6 V.
Another feature of lithium-ion batteries is that they can be installed in any
position.
Charging
DELO lithium-ion batteries are largely pre-charged, so they are capable of
starting a motorcycle straight from the packaging. Nevertheless, to ensure
good long-term cranking power, we recommend using a charger that is suitable
for lithium-ion batteries with controlled charging characteristics to make
sure that your battery really is fully charged before you install it in your
motorcycle. This is the only way that you can be certain that you have
installed a battery that is really fully charged and will deliver top cranking
power in your motorcycle. Charging voltages of up to 14.6 V are no problem for
DELO lithium-ion batteries; the optimum end-of-charge voltage is 14.4 V.
Please also note the individual information provided on the top of the battery
in this regard.
You can see the charge level by pressing the Test button. If only one or two
bars light up, charging is highly recommended.
WARNING!
Risk of explosion and fire!
Never use a car charger or a device with automatic desulphation for charging
purposes. Car chargers supply too high a charging current for a motorcycle
battery, which can lead to an explosion in the absolute worst-case scenario.
Installation/removal
Before you remove the old battery, switch off all the electrical devices on
your motorcycle. Disconnect the earth connection (–) first of all, then the
positive terminal (+), and then remove the old battery. The DELO lithium-ion
batteries are supplied along with various adapters, so a lithium-ion battery
can replace various standard batteries. If necessary, choose the adapter that
meets your needs and install the lithium-ion battery in the appropriate
location. The battery cables are connected in reverse order – remove the dust
cap and connect the positive cable to the positive terminal (+) first of all,
and then connect the earth cable (–) to the negative terminal. In this regard,
be sure to use the terminal screws supplied. Prior to connection, clean the
cable terminals of the battery cable with a wire brush (corroded terminals can
cause the motorcycle’s electrical system to malfunction!). Do not use
excessive force to tighten the screws, as this may distort the battery
terminals and damage the battery.
Storage
Store the disused and removed battery in a cool, dry and well-ventilated
place, away from flammable, explosive or metallic objects.
The optimum charge level is between 70% and 80% (4 – 5 bars). Recharge the
battery at extended intervals (see Section 8. Maintenance).
Maintenance
DELO lithium-ion batteries have low self-discharge, and therefore do not have to be kept permanently on trickle charge when not in use on your motorcycle. Nevertheless, a disused and removed battery should be charged at least every six months. If the battery remains installed and connected, your motorcycle’s electrical system can drain the battery. Ensure, therefore, that no silent electrical devices are active (e.g. alarm system, clock) or that no leakage currents are draining the battery. Discharged batteries can freeze, so always store batteries in a frost-free location and recharge them after one month at the latest. The lithium-ion batteries are maintenance-free and may not be opened under any circumstances, as they are destroyed otherwise.
Troubleshooting
In the event of a fault occurring, try to resolve it with the following measures first of all:
Fault
The battery does not start your motorcy-cle, and nothing appears on the
display when you press the Test button.
Possible causes and remedies
The battery is flat.
-
Please check whether the battery in the motorcycle has been drained by leakage current or a silent electrical device. Many modern motorcycles still use power even when switched off, e.g. for the alarm system, on-board diagnostics, USB adapter, etc. A quiescent current of 5 mA is not uncommon, but it adds up quickly over an extended idle time. Over 24 hours, 5 mA corresponds to 0.12 Ah, over seven days it corresponds to 0.84 Ah, and over one month it corresponds to 3.60 Ah.
-
Was the battery charged with a maximum charging voltage of 14.6 V and a maximum charging current according to the battery label? A higher charging voltage or charging current than specified could have damaged the battery. Check the charge controller and/or its charger in this regard.
-
White smoke is escaping from the battery and the casing is extremely hot.
Possible causes and remedies: -
The charging voltage or charging current is too high (possible causes e.g. incorrectly mounted battery terminal, defect on the voltage controller and/or the alternator).
-
Please see Section 6.2. Too high a charging voltage or charging current can damage the battery and even destroy it in extreme cases.
-
The charge level indicator does not light up when you press the Test button, but the motorcycle can still be started.
-
Possible causes and remedies:
It may be the case that a cable inside the battery electronics has come loose. -
Please contact the Louis Customer Service team.
-
The motorcycle can only be started with a great deal of effort.
-
Possible causes and remedies:
It may be the case that the voltage is too low. -
Check the battery’s charge level. The battery may be drained after a long idle time and due to connected electrical devices. Charge the battery with a suitable charger.
-
The outside temperatures are around freezing point.
-
At temperatures around freezing point, the chemical process in the battery is slowed down and the maximum starting power is reduced. This can lead to starting difficulties in powerful single and twin-cylinder engines. If possible, activate the battery by switching an electrical device such as the light on for 20–30 seconds. Energy is consumed and the battery becomes slightly warmer.
Warranty
Your DELO lithium-ion battery comes with the usual Louis two-year warranty. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, use of the battery for anything other than the intended purpose, damage caused by an accident, or unauthorised or inexpert modification or repair, or changes to the technical specification. The warranty does not cover damages caused by improper storage and maintenance either.
Disposal
Dispose of the packaging
Please dispose of the packaging appropriately. Dispose of cardboard and cardboard boxes with waste paper and dispose of plastic film with recyclables.

incl. VAT, which will be refunded when an old battery is brought back. Our
stated battery prices do not include this deposit. If the old motorcycle
battery is returned to a different dealer (i.e. not the one to whom the
deposit was paid), this dealer is required under Section 11 Para. 3 of the
German Batteries Act (BattG), to issue written or electronic confirmation that
the battery
has been accepted without a refund of the deposit, if so requested by the end
user. Dealers who sell motorcycle batteries via distance selling (internet,
mail order, catalogue sales etc.) are obliged to refund the deposit upon
presentation of the written or electronic confirmation of return, provided
such confirmation is not more than two weeks old at the time of presentation.
Note according to § 18 of the German Batteries Act – valid for Germany The illustrated and crossed-out wheelie bin means that batteries must not be disposed of along with household waste. If any of the following letters appear underneath this symbol (Pb: battery contains lead, Cd: battery contains cadmium, Hg: battery contains mercury), this means that the battery contains these metals and therefore special rules apply to its disposal. Batteries may not be disposed of along with household waste. They may contain substances that are harmful to the environment and pose a health risk. Please return old batteries to us, or take them to your municipal recycling centre or battery dealer. The return is free of charge and required by law; regarding the return of vehicle batteries and possible associated costs in the event that the return does not take place with us, we cannot reimburse you.
