Introduction

The Dual Electronics MH200 Transparent Marine Waterproof Radio Housing Unit is a radio housing unit that is transparent and waterproof. Single DIN gives you peace of mind by ensuring that your expensive equipment is protected from the weather. The universal waterproof design will fit the great majority of single-DIN marine radios and provide you access to your marine stereo and amplifier’s external wiring. The ABS Polymer sealed structure is constructed and tested to ensure that water does not enter through the rubber seal positive locking door mechanism, and the stainless steel mount provides impact resistance. The rubber grommets secure your cables while the heavy-duty ABS polymer gasket protects your marine radio from the sun and high heat, preventing deterioration from the elements. The one-piece stainless steel mounting angle that comes with the kit is completely functional.  It’s easily adaptable to fit all of your boating preferences, and it’s simple to install.

Preparation

Protect your marine head unit from damage and the harsh marine environment with the MH200 gimbal housing. This marine-grade housing fits most single DIN size head units and provides full protection against splashes and debris.

Before You Start

  •  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Consult a qualified marine technician or service manual for instructions.
  •  Due to differences in head units, it is recommended to temporarily mount the head unit in the gimbal housing before installation to ensure the cover will close properly.
  •  Use extreme caution when drilling holes to avoid damaging fuel lines or existing wiring.

Opening and Closing the Gimbal Housing

  • Press the release button on top to open the cover and access the head unit.
  • To close, fold the cover-up and press until it clicks into place.

Mounting

  • Prepare the surface for mounting the gimbal housing bracket. For maximum installation flexibility, the gimbal housing bracket can be mounted to any flat surface or it can also be suspended.
  • Use the bracket as a template and mark and drill the holes for the mounting bracket. Use caution before you drill or cut! Be careful not to cut or drill into gas tanks, fuel lines, hydraulic lines, vacuum lines, or electrical wiring.
  • Secure the mounting bracket using supplied hardware. Attach the gimbal housing by inserting the thumbscrews through the bracket and into the gimbal housing. Adjust the desired angle and hand tighten the thumbscrews. Do not overtighten the thumbscrews.
  • Route all head unit wiring to the gimbal housing. Using a suitable tool, carefully cut an “X” in the desired rubber grommet. The grommets are interchangeable between the left and right sides of the gimbal housing.
  • Install mounting sleeve (supplied with head unit) into gimbal housing. This may vary depending on head unit manufacturer and installation instructions. Refer to head unit owner’s manual for details.
  • Connect head unit wiring and test for correct operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I intend to use this for a Kenwood marine radio. How does it stay in place on the side of the panel, with screws or adhesive or nothing at all?
I just put 2 screws in to hold it on my motorcycle fairing and had no problems.

  • Can i use this for VHF radio?
No, You can not, Your mic will not fit in the compartment, I do no recommend it anyway, I had a radio in mine it does not keep water out. The radio was shot after 6 months cause of the water seepage.

  • How does the radio mount the single din radio?
Single din radio is an exact fit. You first put in and secure the metal din frame into the plastic housing. Then your din control head/radio slides in and clicks into place. Simple. I have found that the newer units (that no longer include a CD/DVD player and thus are MUCH smaller and lighter!) hold very securely in this housing.

  • Can this be used with a CB?
As long as the CB is a single DIN, then probably but check the dimensions to the ones listed. You might have to enlarge the cable access holes in the back to accommodate your CB coax connector.

  • How much clearance is required for the door to open, so how far does it stick out from the mounting surface when opened?
My cover rolls up into the box itself nothing extra.

  • Is ther any issue with ventilation?
As far as the radio overheating or moisture I have not had issues with either.

  • What are the inside dimensions?
Don’t know for sure, it is on my boat. However, you can subtract at least an inch and 1/2 off the depth (cover) and height (including the mounting base). It’s way to big/deep for my Boss MCK 1308. I purchased it due to its low price and color, however, I can’t mount it on my dash, only vertically on the inside hull under the gunwale. If your head unit and connectors/wiring is only 6″ or so deep and less than 8″ wide, then this is plenty big enough.

  • With the door open how far out from the mounting surface does the door need to swing?
    At least halfway swing.

  • Can this be mounted hanging instead of sitting, the way it’s pictured?
Hello, yes this can be mounted from a ceiling. That was one of my choices when I installed one of these in my boat.

  • Will a standard VHF radio fit into this housing?
    Yes

  • Are double din available?
Do not get it! Mine filled up with water during a rain storm, radio wasted.

  • Does it work with Kenwood kmr-d362bt?
It’s a universal unit it has plenty of room inside for any deck you install I put a sony deck and it fits great.

  • Fully adjustable? Once mounted, can it be pivoted for viewing from a different side to side angles?
No unless you mount the base on a swivel.
