PHILCO PHWK 2040 Electric Jug Kettle

Dear customer,
Thank you for buying a PHILCO brand product. So that your appliance serves you well, please read all the instructions in this user’s manual.
Please read the manual carefully before operating your product. Retain it for future reference.

PART 1: IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.

  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.

  3. To protect against fi re, electric shock and injury to persons do not immerse cord, plugs, or (state-specific part or parts in question) in water or other liquid.

  4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

  5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow cooling before putting on or taking off parts. And before cleaning the appliance.

  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.

  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fi re, electric shock or injury to a person.

  8. Do not use outdoors (this item may be omitted if the product is specifically designed for outdoor use).

  9. Do not let cord hang over edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.

  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.

  11. If the power cord is damaged, it must be changed by the manufacturer or authorized persons.
    NOTE: If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected. The kettle is only to be used with the stand provided.

  12. Always attach plug to appliance fi rst, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “off ”, then remove plug from wall outlet.

  13. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.

  14. Save these instructions.

  15. Do not use the kettle to heat anything other than water.

  16. Do not fi ll above the “max” indication.

  17. Do not operate kettle if water is below minimum.

  18. THIS APPLIANCE IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.

  19. This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.

  20. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are aged from 8 years and above and supervised. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years.

  21. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.

  22.  Children shall not play with the appliance.

  23. Only the appropriate connector must be used.

  • a) A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is to be provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  • b) Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
  • c) lf a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used,
    1. The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance,
    2. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord, and
    3. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
      This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety
      If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard

DISPOSAL OF APPLIANCES AND BATTERIES

After the implementation of the European Directive 2002/96/EU in the national legal system, the following applies:
Electrical and electronic devices may not be disposed of with domestic waste.
Consumers are obliged by law to return electrical and electronic devices at the end of their service lives to the public collecting points set up for this purpose or point of sale. Details to this are defined by the national law of the respective country. This symbol on the product, the instruction manual or the package indicates that a product is subject to these regulations.
By recycling, reusing the materials or other forms of utilizing old devices, you are making an important contribution to protecting our environment.

PART 5: HOW TO USE

For the fi rst time to use or if not used for a long time, it is recommended that you fi ll to the maximum level mark with fresh tap water, boil and empty the kettle at least 2 times to clear kettle of any tiny particles. Do not drink such water.

  1. Pull up the lid handle, and the lid can open;
  2. Remove the kettle from the base to the filling place. Fill the kettle with a desired amount no less than the minimum and not more than the maximum level. Put back the lid; place the kettle back on the base unit;
  3. Connect the plug into a power outlet (220V, AC), no need to press any button while Led shows “100”; LED of heating and LED of keep-warm won’t display;
  4. Press once while LED of heating water shine, kettle turns into heating water model; Press one time again while LED of Keep-warm; display shows, kettle turns into keep-warming model; Press one more time again, kettle turns into OFF mode while the Display light and 2 LEDs all won’t display;
  5. Heating water mode: LED of heating water display shows while kettle starts to heating water as set temperature, Display shows the temperature of the water, the default temperature of the water is 100°C;
    • Under standard atmosphere pressure, 8 seconds after water is heated at 97°C, kettle stops to heat. While LED of heating turns off and Display shows 100°C; After 10 seconds, the Display shows changes to go down to show actual temperature of water;
    • Under unnormal atmosphere pressure, the kettle keeps heating water as temperature one degree for 20  seconds not increasing, above 85 °C. Then kettles turn off while the LED of the heating turns off and the Display shows actual temperature;
    • In operation, Press ON/OFF button, then Kettle stops heating and the system returns to standby status;
  6.  Keep-warm mode: LED of keep-warm shine and kettle keeps the water as set temperature;
    • After LED of keep-warm shows on display for 7 seconds while the button doesn’t have operate, kettle turns into a keep-warm model. Range of keep-warm as 50-95°C, default temperature of keep-warm as 70°C while water keeps during (+3°C, -5°C). When the actual temperature of water is above-set temperature, The display shows set temperature; When actual temperature is lower than set temperature, display shows the actual temperature. In operation, press ON/OFF button, then the kettle stops keep-warm and returns to standby status. The time of keep-warm is 2 hours;
  7.  In standby status, press the”+” “-” button, the kettle can modify the set temperature degree as 5°C one time; The range of modifying temperature in standby model is 50°C-100°C;
  8. To be a keep-warm model through press ON/OFF button, the display show “70” then press “+” “-” to modify the degree 5°C one time to set the temperature. The range of temperature in the keep-warm model is 50°C-95°C;
  9. Turn off model:
    • ON/OFF and keep-warm combine as one button, press one time to turns into the heating model; Press one time again to turns into the keep-warm mode; Press one time again to turn into off status, while electricity is off and display, 2 LEDs are all off ;
    • Plug the kettle onto power, display shows “100”, Display turns off automatically after 15 minutes there is no operation;
  10. There is beep signal during operation, when plug onto the power, there will be a long beep signal, press any buttons, there will be a short beep signal, after the boiling finished, there will be three long beep signal.
  11. Lift the kettle from the base, and you can pour out the water into a container.

PART 6: CLEANING

  • To prolong the kettle’s life, please clean the mineral deposits in the kettle regularly.
  • Always unplug from the plug socket and allow to cool down before cleaning.
  • Do not use chemical, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners to clean the outside of the kettle, as these will scratch the surface and fade the outside color.

Cleaning methods:

  1. Fill the kettle with 0.5L white vinegar and the remainder with water and allow to stand for over 1 hours;
  2. Empty the solution from the kettle. Wipe off the deposits that remained with damp cloth;
  3. Fill the kettle with clean water, bring to boil and then discard the water. Repeat and the kettle will be ready to use;
  4. If necessary, repeat the operations above for several times;
  5. The surface of the kettle may be wiped over with a damp cloth and polished with a soft dry cloth;
  6. Grasp the top of the scale fi lter and pull upwards to remove it. Wash with clean water and dry thoroughly before replacing in the kettle.

INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION REGARDING THE DISPOSAL OF USED PACKAGING MATERIALS
Dispose of used packaging material at a site designated for waste in your municipality.

DISPOSAL OF USED ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

For proper disposal, renewal and recycling hand over these products to determined collection points.
