Operating staff

(pic. 3, 4, 5, 6, 12 and 13)

Putting the appliance into operation when the cylinder is started:

  • To start the end switching at the electrically driven splitter, pulling the operator lever or lifting the end break arc – at the eyes height – is enough
  •  If you start the engine or the output shaft now, release blocking and pull both operating levers. Now the piston rod is pressed out of the cylinder and consequently, the cylinder goes slowly up (pic. 3). CAUTION: Pay necessary attention to hydraulic hoses!!
  •  Insert carefully and slowly the screws in the hole, grab the switching handle and screw the nuts on the screws (pic. 4).

Never guide the cylinder quickly up and do not use force!

  • Any mistakes in operation are naturally excluded from the guarantee!!
  • Now release the switching handle; the splitting wedge is guided upwards from the piston rod. The wood splitter is now ready to be operated (pic. 5).

Putting the appliance into operation when the cylinder is lifted:

  • Connect to network, switch on the engine, finished (pay attention to the speed direction!)
  • Connect the output shaft, finished.

Starting the appliance for transport reasons:

Put a wooden block with a height of app. 15 – 20 cm on the floor board. Pull the switching handles and drop the splitting wedge down to the wooden block. Now grab the switching handle and block the backward movement. Now switch off the engine or the output shaft

  • (Block the limit switch if you are alone)
  • Screw both nuts off the fitted pin to release the cylinder board from the frame (pic. 3).
  • Now switch on the engine or the output shaft again.
  • The cylinder now drops down to the splitting wedge if the switching handle is not pulled.
  • When it has dropped down, pull the switching handle and switch the appliance off.

Switch the engine on and pay attention to the turning direction.
If the switch is not responding when operating levers are pulled, the polarity must immediately be changed (see the Plugging in / Hydraulic device)

Two-handed operation
Wear proper working gloves when splitting wood!

  • Wood is held by the holding mechanism.
  • The splitting process is initiated by movement of both switching handles down.
  • The splitting knife movement is stopped by releasing one switching handle.
  • The splitting knife returns to the upper position when both switching handles are released.

Stroke limitation
Upper position of the splitting knife 3…5 cm above the split wood

  • Guide the splitting knife to the required position
  • Release the operating lever or switch the engine off
  • Release the locking bush A and press the arc (pic. 6)
  • Release both operating levers or switch the engine on
  • Check the upper position of the splitting knife

Downward stroke limitation
Long pieces of wood

  • Cylinder goes out just maximum 104 cm (pic. 12).
  • Adjustment bush in the highest position (pic. 13).

Splitting pace:
There are two splitting paces: the engine is moving quickly in the split wood direction by slight pulling the operating levers.
The knife forward movement is reduced to the splitting pace with maximum performance being achieved by full pressing down.
CAUTION: Never split with the fast forward movement! Press the operating levers down to the stop when splitting.

Blocks/splitting table

Optionally available:
Matching short wooden table for hanging.
Güde Article No: # 02017

  • Put the splitting knife down to 5 cm above the block table.
  • Release the operating lever and switch the splitter off.
  • Perform corresponding adjustment (pic. 13).

Split wood length
The hydraulic wood splitter is suitable for splitting blocks (fitted splitting table) and one-metre woods. The maximum stroke can be limited (see the Stroke limitation).
The effective upward stroke limitation is app. 3 – 5 cm above the wood.

RISK OF INJURY!
The splitting table is put to the operating position and blocked with a split pin for splitting blocks (pic. 5). Now put the limit switch of the splitting table to the central position using a split pin on an adjusting rod (pic. 17; pic. 14). To that end, use the bush (pic. 15; pic. 16).
If the split pin is locked properly, the splitting knife stops app. 5 cm before the splitting table (pic. 18)

Maintenance and treatment

Safety instructions for inspections and maintenance:
Only a regularly maintained and treated appliance can be a satisfactory aid. Insufficient maintenance and care may lead to unexpected accidents and injuries.

  • Never use aggressive cleaning agents for cleaning.
  • They could damage or destroy the appliance.
  • Unplug the appliance (1977).
  • Have any repairs and maintenance of the electric device performed only by electricians.
  • All protective and safety equipment must immediately be refitted after repair and maintenance are finished.

We recommend the following:

  • Splitting knife
The splitting knife is subject to quick wear that must be additionally ground down if necessary. This will increase the splitting performance and protect the splitter. Tip: grease the splitting knife!

  • Two-handed protective equipment
Running of the combined holding and switching device must be smooth. Occasionally, it can be lubricated by a few oil drops.

  • Moving parts
Keep the splitting knife guide clean (off any dirt, splinters, bark, etc.) Lubricate the skids with fat.

  • Hydraulic equipment
Check the hydraulic connections and screwing if tight and not worn. Tighten the screwing if necessary.

Change oil once a year (pic. 11):

  • Check the oil level (appliance must be put even). The oil tank is located in the splitter column and has been filled with high-quality hydraulic oil by the manufacturer.

  • There are 2 socket-head screws on the splitter column.
The bottom one is used for oil draining (when changing oil) and the upper one for checking the oil level. The oil level must reach up to the upper socket- head screw.

  • Screw out the oil drain screw (pic. 11/1).

  • Catch the drained oil (different quantity in each model)

  • Dispose the drained oil in an environment friendly manner

  • Screw up the oil drain screw again. Caution! No dirt must get to the oil tank.

  • Add the hydraulic oil up to the upper socket-head screw (pic. 11/2)

  • Test the wood splitter with no load several times.

Recommended hydraulic oil: DIN ISO HLP 46
Güde Art. No. 42004
Viscosity: 46
Oil quantity: (see the Technical specifications)

Functional test

The hydraulic wood splitter is supplied in an operable condition. The following functional tests must be carried out before each use.

  • Let both switching handles and the splitting knife go down to app. 5 cm above the table
  • One switching handle must always be released; the splitting knife will remain in the selected position
  • #01977: STOP switch The switch combination drop lid switches the electric drive off. The red area on the yellow background signals emergency shutdown function. To be used in case of danger only! Please\ advise other persons of this protective equipment.

Plugging in / hydraulic equipment (only #01977)

Only at 400 V appliances:
The engine speed direction (see the arrow on the engine) must necessarily be respected as operation in a wrong direction would damage the oil pump.
In such a case, any guarantee claim is excluded. Change the speed direction by reversal of polarity if necessary.
The speed direction must be checked when plugging the appliance or changing the position. Polarity must alternatively be changed. To that end, turn the reversal of polarity equipment in the appliance plug. See pic. 2!

ON-OFF switch:
In case of danger, the switch can be found very quickly – on the right side of the appliance.
GREEN = ON (1)
RED = OFF (2)
Emergency shutdown function:
The electric drive is stopped by pressing the switch cover

Plugging
Check regularly the feeder cables for any damage. Make sure the feeder cable is not plugged when subject to a check. The feeder cables must correspond to appropriate VDE and DIN provisions. Feeder cable with H 07 RN marking to be used only.
Type designation printing on the feeder cable is required by regulations.

Faulty feeder cables

There is frequent insulation damage to the feeder cables.

Possible causes may include the following:

  • Callosities if the feeder cables are guided in gaps below windows or doors.
  • Breaks as a result of unauthorised mounting or guidance of feeder cables.
  • Breaking or nipping as a result of going over the feeder cables.
  • Insulation damage by pulling the cable out of the wall socket.
  • Cracks as a result of insulation aging Such faulty feeder cables must not be used. They are dangerous to life due to insulation damage!

400 V/ 50 Hz three-phase motor

  • Line voltage 400 V / 50 Hz.
  • Plugging and the extension cable must have 5 cores = 3 P + N + SL. – (3/N/PE).
  • Extension cables must have a minimum section of 2.5 mm2.
  • Plugging is protected by a min. 16 A inertial fuse.

Hydraulic equipment

  • The hydraulic equipment is a closed system with an oil tank, oil pump and control valve. The manufacturer-prefabricated system must not be changed or handled whatsoever.
  • Check regularly the oil level. Too less oil would damage the oil pump (pic. 8).
  • Check regularly the hydraulic connections and screwing if tight and tighten them if necessary.
  • Clean the filters (pic. 9) occasionally (every 2 years).
