PHILCO PHKS 4500 Digital Kitchen Scale
Dear customer,
Thank you for buying a PHILCO brand product. So that your appliance serves you
well, please read all the instructions in this user’s manual.
PART 1: IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
- Carefully unpack the product and take care not to throw away any part of the packaging before you find all the parts of the product.
- This product must not be used by persons (including children) with physical or mental impairments or by inexperienced persons, unless properly trained in the safe use of the product, or unless they have been properly supervised by a qualified person who will be responsible for their safety.
- Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product.
- Under no circumstances should you repair or alter the product yourself? Entrust all repairs and adjustments to a specialized company/service. Tampering with the product during the warranty period may void the warranty.
- Only store and use the product away from flammable or volatile materials and solutions.
- Keep the product away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and excessive humidity. Do not use in a dusty environment.
- Dot place the product near heaters, open fires or other equipment or devices that are sources of heat.
- This product is designed for household use. Do not use it in industrial surroundings or outdoors!
- Do not use the product for purposes other than those intended.
- Do not spray the product with water or any other liquid. Do not submerge the product in water or any other liquid.
- If you will not be using the product for an extended period of time, remove the batteries. Otherwise, they may leak inside the product and cause irreparable damage.
- For plugging the product into the main socket, use only the type of adapter included with the product.
- It is not permitted to make construction changes to the product nor to attach HF amplifiers or antennas to it.
- The manufacturer takes no responsibility for damages caused by the incorrect use of this appliance and its accessories (injuries, burns, scalding, fire, food spoilage, etc.).

Turning the scale on and off
CAUTION!
Before turning on the scale for the first time, please check the back of the
battery cover and remove the insulation tape, which prevents the discharge of
batteries during transport.
- Turn the scale on by pressing the On/Off button.
- Turn the scale off by pressing the On/Off button.
CAUTION!
The scale turns itself off automatically after approximately 120 seconds after
displaying “0.0” on the LCD display or in the event that it is idle. If you
turn it off yourself after weighing using the On/Off button you will save the
battery.
Switching units
While weighing you may switch between units (g – oz – ml) by pressing the
button for changing units.
Weighing procedure
- Turn the scale on by pressing the On/Off button.
- If necessary select the weight unit (g – oz – ml).
- Place the food that you wish to weigh on the weighing surface.
- The weight will be displayed on the display in the selected units.
Additional weighing function
- Turn the scale on by pressing the On/Off button.
- If necessary select the weight unit (g – oz – ml).
- Place the food that you wish to weigh carefully on the plate.
- As soon as the scale stabilises, press the “TARE” button. The current weight will be erased and the display will be reset to zero.
- Place other food on the scale. The display will display only the weight of the newly placed food.
- In this way you may continue to weigh additional food by adding them step by step and repeating steps 4 and 5.
How to turn off the additional weighing function (TARE)
Remove all food from the scale. A negative value will be displayed on the
display. Press the “TARE” button to reset the scale to zero.
Overload indicator
If the scale is overloaded (max. capacity 8 kg), the display will show the
symbol “EEEE”. Remove the food from the scale immediately so as not to damage
the scale.
Changing the batteries
If the display shows the dead battery icon “Lo”, it is time to change the battery.
- Remove the battery compartment cover located on the underside of the scale.
- Remove the old battery.
- Place one 3V type CR2032 lithium battery into the battery compartment. Pay attention to the polarity. The positive pole must always be facing upwards.
CAUTION!
- f you will not be using the scale for a long time, store it in a horizontal position. This position better protects the sensitive sensors located in the feet of the scale.
- Do not place or leave any objects on the scale that may place an unnecessary load on the sensors.
- Strong electromagnetic fields may negatively infl uence the weighing precision. Do not use the scale in environments with strong magnetic fields.
Cleaning and maintenance
To clean the outside parts of the product use a fine cloth dipped in lukewarm water. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, paint thinners or solvents. Using these solutions could damage the surface of the product.
Disposal of used batteries
This product comes with one alkaline battery. Do not dispose of old batteries
into regular household waste. Dispose of batteries at designated battery
disposal points.
Troubleshooting
If the scale is displaying random values or if it is not turning off automatically, you need to restart it. In such cases, remove the batteries for about 10 seconds and place them back again. The scale should work normally.

INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION REGARDING THE DISPOSAL OF USED PACKAGING
MATERIALS
Dispose of used packaging material at a site designated for waste in your
municipality.
DISPOSAL OF USED ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
This symbol on products or original documents means that used electric or
electronic products must not be added to ordinary municipal waste. For proper
disposal, renewal and recycling hand over these products to determined
collection points. Or as an alternative in some European Union states or other
European countries, you may return your products to the local retailer when
buying an equivalent new product. Correct disposal of this product helps save
valuable natural resources and prevents damage to the environment caused by
improper waste disposal. Ask your local authorities or collection facility for
more details. In accordance with national regulations penalties may be imposed
for the incorrect disposal of this type of waste.
