SETTING UP THE AWNING

  1. While holding the outrigger bar with one hand, reach up with the other and release the Quick Release under the container, holding the outrigger, arms etc. The blind rod cover will lift out of the way automatically.

  2. Lower the outrigger and arms gently to the ground (avoiding lights on van wall) and extend out until arms are straight.

  3. To straighten arms completely, lift out from down near the outrigger – this prevents any strain on the hinges.

  4. Depress the spring button on the arms and slide pipe sleeve over the arm hinge, making sure
the sleeve passes the spring button to hold it in position.

  5. Once the arms are braced wires will automatically tension and outside ropes no longer needed.

  6. Release the brake on the roller and pull the canvas roof out as far as the outrigger.

  7. Unclip the legs and lift the outrigger up, then lower the front legs into place. Leave legs in lowered position.

  8. Slide blind rod in behind the legs, one side at a time, and clip into place. Adjust the legs up to the required height.AUSSIE-TRAVELLER-00110000800401-Coolabah-Awning-and-Annexe-Walls-fig-2

  9. Fit the winder handle to the shaft on the roller and winding in a clockwise direction, tension the awning roof back into the container and lock into place.

  10. Secure the touch-tape on the outside of the roof canvas and onto the arms to prevent the sides of the roof from flapping.

  11. Peg the legs down securely. In the event of rain it may be necessary to lower one or both of the front legs to assist with water runoff.

  12. Fit the Curved Roof Rafters above the wire bracing, as shown in image.

ADDING ANNEXE WALLS

  1. Attach the windskirt to the bottom of the van using the press studs.
  2. Zip each end wall and the long front wall to the roof. Then zip the walls together at the front corners. When zipping the end walls to the front wall at the front corners, zip walls together for a distance of approx. 200-300mm (8-12”) and then reach inside and adjust the legs up to approximately 1.8m (6’).
  3. Ensure the corners of the roof and wall canvas, where zippers start, fit snugly over the end of the outrigger bar.
  4. Fit touch tape returns down the sail track on the van wall and hook into the metal bracket beside the arm attachment point. The touch tape faces outwards and will match with the touch tape on the walls and windskirt.
  5. Touch tape the end walls ensuring that the very top of the end wall is positioned at the bottom of the container floor.
  6. Adjust the leg height so that the canvas at the bottom of the front wall is 75-100mm (3-4”) off the ground and peg down to give maximum tension on the roof and walls.

DISMANTLING YOUR AWNING

  1. Remove the roof rafters, zip up windows and doors and remove pegs around annexe.
  2. Remove touch tape returns from sail track and detach wind skirt. Lower legs fully down and zip off front and end walls. Fold up and store.
  3. Release the blind rod from behind the legs, one side at a time. Fold up legs, lower the outrigger to the ground and clip the legs into the pole clips in the outrigger.
  4. Depress the spring button and slide pipe sleeve off the arm hinge and push the arms in towards each other. Ensure the arm sleeve engages over the spring button on the arm to prevent it from sliding into the hinge section and causing damage.
  5. Release the brake on the roller, fit the winder handle to the roller shaft at the front of the container and wind in a clockwise direction wind the roof canvas into the container. Keep tension on the winder handle and tighten the brake handle to prevent the possibility of blind unrolling while travelling.
  6. Pick up the outrigger and guide up under the container ensuring that the arms fold up smoothly. Clip securely into place. You may need to apply minimal pressure to the blind rod cover in order for the buckles to meet snugly. Always ensure that you check that the buckles are secured tightly before travelling.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR WINDING DOWN ROOF

Every now and then the canvas may stretch or shrink and winding action may cause the roof roll back unevenly. This generally results in one side of the canvas end being longer that the other. To correct this take the following steps:

  • When the roof is approx. half rolled in check the straightness of the roof in relation to the container lip.
  • If the end nearest the winder is longer than the other end, push up on the winder handle so that the roller shaft moves up the slot in the end of the box. Then hold that position and continue to wind into the container.
  • If the end nearest the winder is shorter than the other end, pull down on the winder handle so that the roller shaft moves down the slot in the end of the box. Then hold down and continue to wind into the container.
  • If you overcompensate or compensate it may be necessary to partially or fully wind out the roof and repeat the winding process.
  • It is not recommended to try and adjust the roof evenness by pulling on the canvas whilst rolling in.
  • Where possible use a winder in a clockwise direction. The flexible spring section of the winder has been designed to wind in a clockwise direction. Heavy use in an anti-clockwise direction may cause the spring to slip on the winder and in some cases wind itself off the handle. If this occurs the spring section can be refitted to the winder handle simply by knocking on.

MAINTENANCE

ROOF AND WALLS CANVAS
We recommend you erect and hose your Coolabah awning roof and annexe walls prior to initial use. The first time it is wet it may leak through the stitching holes only. After being seasoned by soaking and drying several times the stitching will take up the space in the stitch hole and become completely waterproof. See further information on Canvas Care Card.

HINGE
These hinges are designed to bend one way only and have been positioned to enable the arms to fold back into the container. Care needs to be taken when erecting, not to force the hinges. If the arm won’t straighten to enable the sleeve to be engaged, lift up the end of the arm at the outrigger and this will automatically straighten the arm with no pressure on the hinge.

BRAKE HANDLE
Occasionally wind out the brake handle on the roller (when roof is extended) and place a small amount of petroleum jelly on the thread end.

NUTS & BOLTS
Check all regularly and tighten if loose.

WINGNUTS
Check and tighten wing nuts on collar clamps before travelling.

ELASTIC CORD
The only function of this cord is to maintain tension on and retract the stainless wires at the time the awning is being folded away for travel. This tension is pre-set in the factory but within 1-2 months of use, the outer fabric on the elastic cord relaxes and allows the overall tension to relax. It may be necessary at this time to re-tighten this cord to maintain tension. Undo the knot at the wire, tighten and re-knot. If tension is not maintained on wires they may come off the rollers and jam. The wires can be reset on the rollers with the aid of a small screwdriver.
