This notice will not teach you the techniques for work at Climbing, and any other activity for which these products may be used is inherently dangerous. The consequences of incorrect selection, misuse or poor maintenance of equipment could result in damage, serious injury or death. equipment intended for use in fall arrest systems, it is essential for safety that the anchor device or anchor point should always be positioned, and the work carried out in such way as to minimize both the potential for falls and the potential fall distance. Verify the free space required beneath the user at the workplace before each occasion of use, so that, in the case of a fall, there will be no collision with the ground or the other obstacle in the fall path. A full body harness is the only acceptable body holding device that can be used in a fall arrest system. The product should only be used as instructed and no alterations should be made to it. It may be used in conjunction with products. Note that it is impossible to show or imagine all improper utilization and that this product should be used

MAINTENANCE

Cleaning of the textile and plastic parts: rinse in clean water and neutral soap (max temperature 30°C) and dry naturally away From direct heat. Cleaning of the metallic parts: rinse in clean water and then dry. Temperature:
Always keep this product below 80°C so as not to affect its performance of the product. Chemicals: withdraw the product From service if it comes into contact with chemical reagents, solvents or Fuels which could affect the performance of the product.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Summary
C.A.M.P. Enigma is a device designed to connect two elements between each other, which need freedom of movement. Enigma is a device certified according to the PPE- R/11.135 V2 methodology and the relevant points of EN 795:2012 and EN 354:2010. Enigma is also tested according to the American ANSI/ASSP Z359.12-2019 standard.
By way of non-exhaustive example, some applications are the creation of anchorages with self-orientable points, insertion in work-at-height and rescue systems for increased  Freedom of movement and prevention of twisting ropes and lanyards. This product is intended for use to protect and prevent the risk of Falling From a height in rescue operations, in work at a height, in the practice of mountaineering, rock-climbing and other vertical sports that use similar techniques.
Use
Connect Enigma to the other components of the system through one of the following three methods.
USE WITH CONNECTORS (fig.1): insert the connector into the attachment ring [1]. Use EN 362 class B or ANSI 2359.12 connectors for industrial use or EN 12275 for mountaineering use; in the case of permanent connections, select by preference quick links (Class Q). Avoid transverse stresses on the connectors (fig.1b). DIRECT  CONNECTION (fig.2): compatible equipment can be connected directly to the attachment rings [1] without using connectors. Examples of connectable equipment are descenders, ascenders, pulleys, metal rings, webbing loops, stitched ropes, lanyards, harnesses’ attachment points, and anchors. The connected equipment must be Free of burrs and/or sharp edges. Check that the connected equipment can rotate freely into the attachment ring [1]. For installation, Follow the instructions reported in Fig.2a (scan the QR  code for video instructions). The nut [4] can be opened and closed by means of either the key [5] or any compatible tool (screwdriver, coin). Always check the nut [5] is  completely closed before use, no specific torque is required. CONNECTION THROUGH KNOTS (fig.3): rope, webbing, and loops can be knotted directly into the attachment rings [1]. Check that is allowed to make knots on the connected equipment. Before loading the system, always check that all components are correctly assembled and positioned in the right direction. The working load limit (WLL) is 500 kg (~5 KN). The breaking load (MBL) is 23 kN (Fig.4). Breaking load when loaded transversely (minor axis) is 20  KN (MBL) with 2.5 kN of working load limit (WLL)(fig.4b). Prevent Enigma from hitting uneven surfaces or sharp edges that could compromise its strength. (Fig.5). IF used in  a fall arrest system, the system must limit the peak force below 6 kN. This force is transmitted to the structure, which must be verified in terms of minimum strength (12 KN  (metal anchors) or 18 kN (Fabric anchors)) and of Force direction. Do not stay above the anchor point: risk of Failure/injuries in case of fall. Take measures to avoid pendulum. Enigma should not be used alone as a fall arrest component. Enigma can be used in a Fall arrest system when combined with an EN 355 energy absorber and EN  362 connectors; in this case the maximum length of the string- Enigma-absorber- connector system must never exceed 2 and must be connected to the attachment element (A)  of an EN 361 Full body harness. The length of the device should be taken into account when used in any fall arrest system, as it will influence the length of a Fall. Use adequate rescue equipment and provide adequate training for the work crew so that they can quickly rescue the injured person to minimize the suspension trauma effects.

CHECKING AND MAINTENANCE

Check the correct rotation of the swivel balls [2] at each use in case of dirt, clean with a blast of compressed air and/ or immerse in fresh water, and subsequently dry in a ventilated environment. After cleaning, the mechanism can be lubricated. Cleaning and lubrication are recommended after each use in a marine environment.

REVISION

The safety of users depends upon the continued efficiency and durability of the equipment. In addition to the normal inspection required before, during and after each use, this product must be inspected by a skilled person every 12 months, starting From date the product is first used; this date and the subsequent checks must be recorded on the product’s life sheet: keep this literature For inspection and reference For the life of the device. Check the legibility of the product’s markings. In case one of the following effects are present, the product should be withdrawn From service immediately:

  • excessive wear (> 1 mm) of the attachment rings [1];
  • creation of space between the pivoting pins [1a] and the swiveling body [2];
  • damage of the thread of the rotation axis [2¢] which does not allow to screw the nut [4];
  • presence of cracks;
  • corrosion that seriously alters the surface state of the metal (it does not disappear after a slight rubbing with sandpaper);
  • presence of permanent deformations;
  • total locking of the rotation function, which cannot be solved through cleaning and lubrication. Any product or component showing any defect or wear, or if in doubt, should be withdrawn from service immediately. Each product in the safety system can be damaged during a fall and must be always inspected before being used it again. Do not continue to use a product after a major Fall because damage may have occurred, even if no external signs are visible.

LIFETIME

The lifetime of the product is unlimited unless any defect appears, provided that periodic inspections are made at least once every 12 months From the date the product is  First used and the results are recorded in the life sheet of the product. The Following Factors can reduce the lifetime of the product: intense use, damage to components of the product, contact with chemical substances, high temperatures, tears and abrasions, violent impacts, and Failure to maintain as recommended. When suspecting that the product is no more safe and reliable, please contact C.A.M.P.  SpA or the distributor.
