- Use in accordance with EN 12841/B: semi-static ropes conforming to EN 1891 Type A with diameter between 10 to 13 mm;
- Use in accordance with EN 12278 – EN 567: semi-static ropes conforming to EN 1891, dynamic ropes to EN 892, or accessory ropes to EN 564, with a diameter between 8 to 13 mm.
The following ropes were used during the certification process: Cousin Trestec Spelunca 10 mm, Arbpro 13 mmref.
XDB12, CAIMLP. Cordino 8 mm ref. 0826.
WARNING off-the-shelf rope diameters can have a tolerance up to +/-0.2 mm.
The strength of the clamping action can be influenced by the diameter, construction, wear, surface coatings on the rope, and other variables such as: rope or pulley that are Frozen, muddy, wet, dirty, aged, incorrectly stored
Each time its used, the user must become familiar with the clamping effect of the device on the rope and must check that the rope is intact. Avoid overloading or dynamic loads: risk of damage to the rope. The safe operation of the device is related to the rope conditions: in the event the rope is damaged, it must be replaced.
Anchoring
For EN 12841/B use, the structural anchor point must comply with the standard EN 795 and/or known to have strength of 12 kN (metal anchors) or 18 KN (Fabric anchors). For EN 12278 and EN 567 uses the anchor must comply with one of the Following standards: EN 566, EN 568, EN 569, EN 959, EN 12270, EN 12276. The anchoring point must be at or above the position of the user/load, avoid leaving the rope loose: risk of breakage and severe injury in the event of falling (Fig.3abe). Avoid external stress on the pulley (fig.34)
Use
These instructions must be provided to the user. It is imperative during use that the device always be controlled by the user. The use of gloves is recommended. When Turbolack is not in use and during transportation, keep the locking cam [5] in the closed position, to avoid that the teeth do not damage other equipment.
Operating Principles I
The pulley [4] isa device that allows reducing the friction on a rope under load through the rotation of the ball bearings [4a]. The locking cam [5] stops the movement of the rope in one direction, while allowing it in the opposite direction (Fig).
Use as EN 12278 pulley and EN 12278 / EN 567 progress capture pulley.
Turbolock can be used as. simple pulley (the rope can move in both directions)
or as a progress capture pulley (the rope can move in one direction only).
To insert the rope, flip the safety lever [3] and open the mobile flange [2],
press the button [6], moving the locking cam [5] into the open position, then
insert the rope and close the mobile Flange [2]. Fig. 5a.
To activate clamping, press the button [6] and at the same time press the
locking cam [5] in the opposite direction. st that the clamping function is
engaged correctly. Always check that the load is positioned on the correct
side: DANGER OF DEATH if assembled backward (Fig 5b).
To deactivate the clamping function in situations when the rope is loaded,
pull the unloaded end of the rope until the locking cam [5] is unloaded, press
the button [6] to move the locking cam [5] into the open position. Only For
expert users: the activation of the locking cam [5] can be controlled from a
distance (FigSd): knot an accessory cord to the slat of the locking cam [5],
avoiding that an excess of cord leaves the knot; pass the cord around the
anchor carabiner; to deactivate the clamping function, release the load and
pull the cord; to reactivate the clamping
Function, release the cord,
Warning: i the cam is deactivated with a load applied, the load is not
retained: DANGER OF DEATH! (fig.5¢/Sd).
The working and breaking loads (WLL = Working Load Limit; MBL = Minimum
Breaking Load) in the various configurations are shown in fig.6 and in Tab. A.
Do not exceed the working load limits (WLL): DANGER OF DEATH!
Turbolock can be used to create hauling systems (Fig. 7):the loads indicated
refer to areal situation (bearing friction + rope friction).
Ik is necessary to assess the need for a safety line in parallel to the line on which the Turbolock is used
Turbolock cannot be used to create horizontal life lines, zip-ines, slack- lines, or as a device For anchoring the ropes: DANGER OF DEATH! the injured person to minimize the suspension trauma effects.
CHECKING AND MAINTENANCE.
Before and after each use, check that the moving parts work correctly and the efficiency of the locking cam [5] springs, the safety lever [3], and the cam locking button [6]. Check for any dirt or foreign bodies that might influence or block its operation (for ex. grease, sand, pebbles, etc).
Cleaning: use a damp rag (Fresh water) and clean all visible parts. Dry. Do not use solvents. Do not immerse the product in water. After cleaning, the pins in view of the mobile parts can be lubricated with spray silicone-based lubricant. Note: itis recommended that it be cleaned after each use in marine environment.
