Operation
Sharpening of drills
An appropriately sharpened drill is characterized by;
- Spiky point in the middle of the drill.
- Lip with two sharp and identically sized sides.
- Two back edges that are slightly lower than the front edges of the lip.
If your drill does not look like as specified above, it must be sharpened. Rough sharpening on a desk grinder followed by drill grinder is recommended for sharpening of skewed or very blunt drills.
- Fit a drill sharpening adapter (3) on the multi-purpose sharpener.
- Take the vice off the holder on the adapter and insert the drill (picture 1a).
- Tighten the vice slightly so that the drill in the vice can still be moved a bit.
- Fasten the vice at the very bottom into the notch on the left on the adapter so that the drill point is directed at the V-guide in the notch (picture 1 b).
- Move the drill to the very front of the V-guide (picture 1c).
- Turn the drill so that it fits on the V-guide on all four sides.
- Lift the V-guide and make sure the vice fits at the very bottom of the notch.
- Tighten the vice (picture 1d).
- Lift the V-guide and remove the vice.
- Put the vice to the vice holder in the middle of the adapter (picture 1e).
- Use the on/off button (1) to put the multi-purpose sharpener into operation.
- Move the vice holder slightly from side to side (picture 1f).
- Turn the vice so that the back side is directed upwards (picture 1g).
- Move the vice holder slightly from side to side (picture 1f). Do not apply too much pressure as the drill could get overheated and damaged.
- Make sure the drill is sharpened correctly and corresponds to the three sharp drill points above (as in picture 1h and not in picture 1i).
- Use the on/off button to put the multi-purpose sharpener into operation. Let the sharpening stone stop completely and then remove the adapter.
Sharpening of knives
- Fit a knife and scissor sharpening adapter (2) on the multi-purpose sharpener.
- Use the on/off button (1) to put the multi-purpose sharpener into operation.
- Hold the knife by its handle and put the other end of the knife cutting edge to the adapter knife notch (picture 2a).
- As soon as the cutting edge touches the sharpening stone, you must pull the knife to yourself, while applying slight pressure, so that it is fully pulled out of the knife notch (picture 2b). Do not press too much.
- Turn the knife and put it to the second knife notch (Picture 2c).
- As soon as the cutting edge touches the sharpening stone, you must pull the knife to yourself, while applying slight pressure, so that it is fully pulled out of the knife notch (picture 2b). Do not press too much.
- Check whether the knife is sharpened sufficiently and repeat the sharpening process if necessary. Use the on/off button to put the multi-purpose sharpener out of operation. Let the sharpening stone stop completely and then remove the adapter.
Sharpening of scissors
- Fit a knife and scissor sharpening adapter (2) on the multi-purpose sharpener.
- Use the on/off button (1) to put the multi-purpose sharpener into operation.
- Open the scissors to the full extent.
- Insert one cutting edge in the scissor notch so that the scissors joint and handle of the other cutting edge are directed to the right (picture 2d).
- As soon as the cutting edge touches the sharpening stone, you must move the scissors to the side off the joint towards the point (picture 2e) while applying slight pressure. Do not press too much.
- Turn the scissors and put the other cutting edge to the scissors notch (picture 2f).
- As soon as the cutting edge touches the sharpening stone, you must move the scissors to the side off the joint towards the point (picture 2e) while applying slight pressure. Do not press too much.
- Check whether the scissors are sharpened sufficiently and repeat the sharpening process if necessary.
- Use the on/off button to put the multi-purpose sharpener out of operation. Let the sharpening stone stop completely and then remove the adapter.
- Knives and scissors with a smooth cutting edge can be sharpened only. If you sharpen knives or scissors with corrugated or special cutting edges, they will get damaged.
Sharpening of plane and chisel blades
- Fit a plane and chisel blade sharpening adapter (4) on the multi-purpose sharpener.
- Put the blade or chisel on the support plate (picture 3a). The magnet keeps the processed material in its place.
- The angle between the processed material and the sharpening stone must correspond to the original angle at the cutting edge of the processed material.
- The sharpening angle can be continuously adjusted from 20 to 40° by loosening the angle adjusting handle and putting the support plate to an appropriate angle and tightening the angle adjusting handle again (picture 3c).
- The cutting edge of the processed material only slightly touches the sharpening stone.
- Use the on/off button (1) to put the multi-purpose sharpener into operation.
- Press the processed material slightly and move the support plate and processed material back and forth all the time, otherwise, the cutting edge would be sharpened unevenly (picture 3d).
- When sharpening, move the processed material along the support plate further downwards and also from side to side (picture 3e).
- Use the on/off button to put the multi-purpose sharpener out of service.
- Check whether the cutting edge angle is correct (picture 3f). Check whether the processed material is sharpened sufficiently and repeat the sharpening process if necessary.
- Let the sharpening stone stop completely and then remove the adapter.
- A distance piece included in the supply (picture 3g) is needed to sharpen thin chisels.
- The cutting edge must be ground on an oil stone after sharpening.
