ASSEMBLY

  1. Unpack the product and check contents. Should there be any damaged or missing parts contact your supplier immediately. COUPLINGS
Vibration may cause failure if a quick change coupling is connected directly to the needle scaler. To overcome this, connect a leader hose to the air needle scaler. A quick change coupling may then be used to connect the leader hose to the air line recoil hose. See figs 2 & 3.SEALEY-SA501-Air-Needle-
Scaler-Pistol-Type-fig3

  2. ATTACHING THE SCALING HEAD

  3. Turning clockwise screw the scaling head fully onto the body (fi g 4).SEALEY-SA501-Air-Needle-Scaler-Pistol-Type-fig4

  4. Tighten the 3 grub screws, located equally around the scaling head, with a hex key wrench (not supplied).

  5. REMOVING THE SCALING HEAD

  6. To remove the scaling head follow section 4.2 but in reverse.

  7. AIR SUPPLY
WARNING! Ensure the air needle scaler trigger is not depressed before connecting to the air supply.
NOTE: The required air pressure is 90psi, with a minimum air flow of 2.8cfm.
WARNING! Ensure that the air supply is clean and does not exceed 90psi while operating the air needle scaler. Too high an air pressure and unclean air will shorten the product life due to excessive wear, and may also be dangerous causing damage and/or personal injury.

  8. Drain the air tank daily. Water in the air line will damage the air needle scaler.

  9. Clean the air inlet filter weekly. Recommended hook-up procedure is shown in fig.2.

  10. Line pressure should be increased to compensate for unusually long air hoses (over 8 metres). The minimum hose diameter shouldc be 1/4” I.D and the fittings must have the same inside dimensions.

  11. Keep the hose away from any heat source, oil and sharp edges. Check the hose for wear, and make certain that all connections are tight and secure.

OPERATION

NOTE: Ensure all Safety Instructions in Section 1 are read and fully understood and carried out before use and save the instructions and warnings for future reference.
WARNING! Determine a safe route for the air hose to the work area, allowing enough hose length to allow free movement whilst operating the air needle scaler.

  1. Connect the air needle scaler to the air hose. See section 4.

  2. Firmly grip the air needle scaler with both hands. For best control, place one hand on the needle tube and the other on the pistol handle.

  3. To start the air needle scaler, gently squeeze the trigger.

    • WARNING! Ensure that the needles are not touching the surface prior to starting.
    • WARNING! Keep hands away from needle area.
  4. Place the vibrating needles onto the surface residue.

  5. Slowly move the air needle scaler around the surface residue area to be removed.

  6. Maintain a light pressure on the air needle scaler when removing any surface residue.
DO NOT apply excess pressure. This may cause damage to the surface.
DO NOT allow the air needle scaler to free run for an extended period of time as this will shorten it’s life.

  7. The air needle scaler air fl ow can also be regulated by the air fl ow valve located at the base of the handle (fi g 4).

  8. If the air needle scaler is unable to remove the residue after several attempts, do not continue. Use another method to remove the residue.

  9. Disconnect the air needle scaler from the air supply after use, and store in a dry, safe, secure childproof location.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING! Disconnect needle scaler from air supply before changing accessories, servicing or performing maintenance. Replace or repair damaged parts. Use genuine parts only. Unauthorised parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.

  1. REPLACING THE NEEDLES

  2. To replace the needles, remove the large cir-clip from the back opening of the main sleeve and loosen the three grub screws.

  3. Take hold of the sleeve and press the needles fi rmly onto a hard surface to ease the plastic retainer out of the sleeve.

  4. Remove the hammer followed by the needle supporter, needles and the spring.

  5. Remove the old needles from the needle supporter and replace them with a new set.

  6. REASSEMBLE THE SCALING HEAD

  7. Reassembly of the scaling head is completed in the reverse order to section 6.1.  Refer to the attached parts diagram.

  8. ATTACHING THE SCALING HEAD

  9. See section 4.2.

  10. LUBRICATION

  11. Lubricate the air needle scaler daily, or before each use, with a few drops of Sealey Air Tool Oil dripped into the air inlet.

  12. CLEANING

  13. Clean the air needle scaler after use.

  14. Clean with a soft damp cloth.
    DO NOT use solvents.

  15. TROUBLESHOOTING

  16. Loss of power or erratic action may be due to the following:
    a) Excessive drain on the air line. Moisture or restriction in the air pipe. Incorrect size or type of hose connectors. To remedy check the air supply and follow instructions in Section 4.
    b) Grit or gum deposits in the needle scaler may also reduce performance. Flush the needle scaler out with gum solvent oil or an equal mixture of SAE No 10 oil and paraffin. Allow to dry before use.

  17. For a full service contact your local Sealey service agent.

WARNING! – Risk of Hand Arm Vibration Injury.

This tool may cause Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome if its use is not managed adequately. This tool is subject to the vibration testing section of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This tool is to be operated in accordance with these instructions.

Measured vibration emission value (a): . . . . . . . . . . . .13m/s²
Uncertainty value (k):. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.2m/s²

Please note that the application of the tool to a sole specialist task may produce a different average vibration emission. We recommend that a specific evaluation of the vibration emission is conducted prior to commencing with a specialist task.
A health and safety assessment by the user (or employer) will need to be carried out to determine the suitable duration of use for each tool. NB: Stated Vibration Emission values are type-test values and are intended to be typical.
Whilst in use, the actual value will vary considerably from and depend on many factors.
Such factors include; the operator, the task and the inserted tool or consumable.
NB: ensure that the length of leader hoses is sufficient to allow unrestricted use, as this also helps to reduce vibration.
The state of maintenance of the tool itself is also an important factor, a poorly maintained tool will also increase the risk of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome.

Health surveillance.
We recommend a programme of health surveillance to detect early symptoms of vibration injury so that management procedures
can be modified accordingly.

Personal protective equipment.
We are not aware of any personal protective equipment (PPE) that provides protection against vibration injury that may result from the uncontrolled use of this tool. We recommend a sufficient supply of clothing (including gloves) to enable the operator to remain warm and dry and maintain good blood circulation in fingers etc. Please note that the most effective protection is prevention, please refer to the Correct Use and Maintenance section in these instructions. Guidance relating to the management of hand arm vibration can be found on the HSE website www.hse.gov.uk – Hand-Arm Vibration at Work.

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories and packaging should be sorted, taken to a recycling centre and disposed of in a manner which is compatible with the environment. When the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain any fluids (if applicable) into approved containers and dispose of the product and fluids according to local regulations.

Note: It is our policy to continually improve products and as such we reserve the right to alter data, specifications and component parts without prior notice.
