Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the American Weigh SHIP-330 digital shipping scale. Please read all operating instructions carefully before use. Scales are precision measuring devices and should always be handled with proper care. To ensure years of reliable service, keep these simple tips in mind

  • Do not exceed the scale’s maximum capacity. Overloading your scale can permanently damage it!
  • Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold. Scales perform best at normal room temperature. If temperatures have changed dramatically, calibration and adjustment may be necessary.
  • Allow your scale to warm up for 30-60 seconds before performing calibration and adjustment(if available).
  • Store your scale in a clean, dry location. Dust, dirt, and moisture can accumulate on the weighing sensors and electronics causing inaccuracy or malfunction.
  • Avoid using your scale in close proximity to strong radio wave emitting devices such as computers, cash registers, and cordless phones.
  • Always weigh on a flat and level surface, free from vibrations and drafts. The corner of a room is usually the most stable.
  • Gently apply all items to be weighed. Do not drop items onto the weighing platform.
  • Avoid dropping your scale. The warranty does not cover damage due to rough treatment or overload.
  • Check the batteries first if you are having any trouble with your scale. This simple step can remedy most scale issues.
  • Do not disassemble your scale. This product contains no user serviceable parts.

  2. If you are replacing the batteries, make sure the positive and negative contacts are properly aligned.

Operation

  1. Place the scale on a flat, level surface and press the ON/OFF key to turn the scale on.
  2. Once the start-up process completes and the scale goes to zero you are ready to weigh.
  3. Place the quantity to be weighed onto the weighing platform.
  4. Wait a couple seconds for the display to stabilize before taking a weight reading.

Changing the Unit of Measure

  3. SHIP-330 Units: kg (kilogram) oz (ounce)  lb  (pound)

Using the Tare Feature

You can use this scale’s tare feature to subtract the weight of an empty container or vessel for net weight determination. NOTE: The weight of the container will subtract from the available capacity.

  1. Place the empty container or vessel on the weighing platform.
  2. Press the TARE key once. The display will then reset to zero. If the container is removed, it’s weight will be displayed as a negative number.
  3. You may now fill the container with the quantity to be weighed. The display will show the net weight of the contents.
  4. To return to normal weight display (gross weight), remove any items from the weighing platform and press the TARE key again to re-zero the scale.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: Scale will not turn on
  • Solution: Check the batteries

  • Solution: Make sure your workspace is stable and free of any air currents or vibration
  • Problem: Displayed weight is inaccurate
  • Solution: Perform a calibration adjustment

Error Codes

  1. OUTZ – Zero range has shifted. Perform calibration adjustment. If the problem persists, the load cell may be permanently damaged due to overloading.
  2. 88888 – Maximum capacity exceeded. Remove the extra weight to avoid damaging the load cell.
  3. L – Batteries are low. Replace the batteries.
  • Don’t expose scale to moisture.
  • Don’t drop or mistreat the scale.
  • Don’t overload the scale. This will permanently damage it!
  • Don’t leave weight on the scale when not in use.
  • Replace battery when the scale displays “ “ or shows “LO” on the display when powered up

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this scale to weigh dogs on?****

Small dogs. The base is just not large enough for much more than small-medium.

Is this good for weighing suitcases?****

Yes, This scale will work for weighing suit cases.

How long is cord, stretched and not stretched?****

My cord is mostly coiled, just a few inches straight on each end. Not stretched, maybe two feet, but stretched hard over six feet. I wouldn’t recommend that. Mine is pretty comfortable at about three feet.

We bought the scale but does not have calibrations instructions and the calibration company could not calibrate it. Can I have instructions?****

This scale is effected by Temp. and NEVER weighs product the same and must be recalibrated before every use.It is a piece of China junk.

Does this read out to the hundredths of a pound, or just tenths of a pound?****

It purports to read out in hundredths of a pound, but I can tell you that when you put less than a pound on the scale it doesn’t register at all. I was trying to measure something I knew to weigh several ounces, and it still read “0.00”. That leads me to conclude that any numbers to the right of the decimal on this scale really aren’t reliable, because it simply is not that precise.

If i put a long piece of plywood on it and permanently attach it, can the scale give an accurate weight of a great dane?****

Yes. Are you familiar with the ‘TARE’ function? It’s pretty much a standard feature of digital scales, and it’s in the MANUAL. Put all the items you don’t want included on the final weighing on the scale (plywood, water bowls, treats, etc.), let it settle, then press TARE. That will ZERO the reading and then anything else you add to the scale will tally as if they are the only things on the scale. That should give you the weight of the dog, as long as you’ve held him still.

How do I calibrate this scale? There are not instructions on how to do it****

I have using it for more than 2 years and I never had a need for to calibrate the scale. If you see a number on the display and nothing is on the scale, just turn it off and on.

Is the platform waterproof?****

Yes, for the average user, you could say it’s somewhat waterproof. The platform looks to be made of stainless steel folded over lengthwise, with plastic end panels. The panels seams are probably not water tight. I expect a towel layer would take care of small spills with no problem, but it would not be advisable to dump water over it or submerse it. I suppose this would not be my first choice if looking for that particular property, but I have no idea how many really waterproof platforms there are.

How to calibrate this scale? I can not find any instruction or button****

After some thoughts I di not purchase that scale because I read missing instructions. The best approach is to find who is the mfg. Google him and see you can talk to the mfg.

After using tare to set the zero, i would weight myself but when i come off the scale, the scale always read non zero number. how do i fix this?****

Most consumer scales are built with sloppy, crude parts that  min. qual. to get a good set of Bathroom scales cost some real $.These scales are also sensitive to Temp.

Is this able to get a little wet?****

No, I wouldn’t take that chance, as it is. If you look at the picture closely, the top metal shell is not sealed. There are two darker plastic endcaps which don’t appear to be watertight. I guess if you took the extra effort to seal those joints or just put a plastic sheet over it, then it would be okay.

Does this scale allow you to “zero out” with a bucket or other container and then weigh product pured into that container? This is a must for me.****

Yes, you can “Zero” or “Tare” the scale.

Can this scale show measurements in ounces as well aside from the pounds?****

No. It measures in pounds and tenths of pounds. You would have to convert. (0.5=8oz, or the decimal point times 16 equals ounces.) It does have a mode to measure in Kilograms also.

Does the Scale come with an RS232 port?****

Sorry, there are NO ports on this scale. But, it is a great scale, and very accurate!
