Thank you for buying a PHILCO brand product. So that your appliance serves you well, please read all the instructions in this user’s manual.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

SIGNAL WORD DEFINITIONS

  • DANGER – Indicates an imminently hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. Usage of this signal word is limited to the most extreme situations.
  • WARNING – Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
  • CAUTION – Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, may result in minor/moderate injury or product/property damage. It also alerts against unsafe practices.
  • When using this or any other electrical appliance, always follow these basic safety precautions:
    READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE.

WARNING – To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or serious personal injury:

  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

  • Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

  • Always use the product on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.

  • The appliance must only be used with both plates properly installed.

  • The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be very high when the appliance is in use. Make sure not to touch these hot parts of the appliance.

  • Use the product in a well-ventilated area. Keep at least 4-6 inches of space on all sides of the product to allow adequate air circulation.

  • Do not place the product on or near a gas or electric burner, or inside or on top of a heated oven or other heat source.

  • Do not allow the product to touch curtains, wall coverings, clothing, dishtowels, or other flammable materials during its use.

  • Do not touch hot surfaces of the product. Do not move the product while it is plugged in. Allow the product to thoroughly cool before handling it.

  • Do not line the Drip Tray with aluminum foil or any other material.

  • Do not use attachments not recommended for use with this product or sold by the product manufacturer.

  • Do not use the product near water or other liquids.

  • Do not place or drop the product into water or other liquids. If the product falls into water, immediately unplug it from the electrical outlet. Do not touch or reach into the water.

  • Do not leave the product unattended while it is in use. The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.

  • Do not put any stress on the Power Cord where it connects to the product as the Power Cord could fray and break.

  • Do not plug or unplug the product into/from an electrical outlet with a wet hand.

  • Keep the product and its Power Cord away from heated surfaces.

  •  Never operate this product if it has a damaged Power Cord or Plug, is not working properly, has been dropped, damaged, or exposed to water or other liquids.

  •  If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.
    !! CAUTION – To reduce the risk of personal injury or product/property damage:

  • This product is intended for indoor, non-industrial, non-commercial, household use only as a panini maker and healthy grill. Do not use the item outdoors or for any other purpose.

  • Do not allow the Power Cord to hang where it may be tripped over or pulled (e.g., over the edge of a table or counter).

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • To avoid a circuit overload when using this product, do not operate another high-wattage product on the same electrical circuit.
  • A short power supply cord is provided with this product. An extension cord is not recommended for use with this product, but if one must be used:
    • The marked electrical rating of the cord must be at least as great as that of the product.
    • Arrange the extension cord so that it does not hang where it can be tripped over or pulled unintentionally.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

INTENDED USE

  • This manufacturer is suitable for preparing foods only. Any other use may result in damage to product or injuries.
  • The Imtron GmbH assumes no liability for damage to the product, for property damage or for personal injury due to careless or improper usage of the product, or usage of product which does not meet the manufacturer’s specified purpose.

BEFORE FIRST TIME USE

  • Carefully take the product and its accessories out of the original packaging. Retain the original packaging in case you would like to store the product away or transport it at a later date. If you choose to dispose of the original packaging, then please do so according to the applicable legal regulations.
  • Check the packaging contents for completeness and damages. Should the contents in the packaging not be complete or be damaged, do not use the product. Return it to your retail outlet immediately.
  • After unpacking, please refer to chapter Cleaning and care.
  • During manufacturing, parts of the product are coated with a thin oil film for their protection.
  • To remove production residue, run the product for approx. 10 minutes without foodstuffs.
  • Make sure there is sufficient ventilation as a slight odor and some smoke may occur. This is harmless and will disappear shortly.

CLOSED AND OPEN GRILLING

  • Caution
    The upper casing will become very hot during operation. Therefore, it is especially important when grilling with the heating plates open to place the product on a fireproof surface. The surface must be level and non-slip.

  • Caution

    • Do not change the grill positions (from barbecue position into closed grill position / from closed grill position into barbecue position) while the plates are hot.
    • Please choose the grill position before switching on the product.
  • Place this product on a flat, heat resistant, even and non-slip surface.

  • Make sure the grease drip tray is inserted correctly at its intended position.

  • If the grill is locked (Lock) pull the slide control for grill lock to position Open.

  • Open the upper casing by pushing the handle all the way up.
    Note
    Remember that cooking results will be better if the product is preheated first.

  • Caution
    The upper casing and the heating plates of the product will become very hot during operation.

CLOSED GRILLING (PANINI POSITION)
This position is ideal for fast, doublesided grilling at high temperatures, for example, of rump steaks and hamburgers, as well as for the preparation of sandwiches and paninis.

Caution
Hot steam could be emitted when opening and closing the cover. Thus always open the grill carefully.

  1. Apply a little cooking oil to the upper and lower heating plates and close the upper casing.

  2. Connect the power plug to a suitable power outlet.

  3. Set the left (lower grill plate) and right (upper grill plate) temperature control to the desired heating level between OFF, LOW and MAX. The Led screen will light up and the digital start flashing, indicating that the product is heating up. As soon as the set temperature is reached, the digital stop flashing.

  4. Open the upper casing by pushing the handle all the way up.

  5. Lay the grill items onto the lower heating surface without adding extra fat or oil.

  6. Close the upper casing. If needed you can set a minimum distance between both grilling plates using the slide control for end stop. Set the desired temperature using the control dial.
    Note
    During the grilling process, the heating-up indicator lamps turn on and off from time to time. This indicates that the heating element is switched on and off to maintain the correct temperature.
    Note
    Monitor the cooking process now and then. Grill the food for approx. 3-8 minutes. The cooking time depends on the type of food and on your personal taste. The grill items do not need to be turned over as they are cooked with both the upper and lower grill plates.

  7. The grill items are cooked in their own juices and excessive liquids flow into the grease drip tray.
    Note
    Oil/fat remains collected with supplied drip tray must not be re-used.

  8. In order to remove grilled food, carefully open the upper casing by pushing the handle all the way up. Only use utensils made of heat-resistant plastic or wood to remove the grilled food from the grill plate.
    Note
    Never touch the grill plates with sharp or abrasive items, as this would damage the grill plates surface.

OPEN GRILLING (BARBECUE POSITION)
This position provides a larger surface area for grilling and allows for separated grilling, such as when vegetables and meat are grilled simultaneously. In addition, several people can participate in grilling and can prepare their own food according to their own taste.

Caution
Never touch the hot surfaces of the product during operation or directly after use. Thus to open the product, only touch the handle.

  1. Press the release button while holding the handle.
    Open the upper casing towards the rear using the handle.
    By doing so, the handle serves as a stand.
    Let go of the release button as soon as the upper casing has been pushed all the way back.

  2. Apply a little cooking oil to the upper and lower heating plates.

  3. Connect the power plug to a suitable power outlet.

  4. Set the left (lower grill plate) and right (upper grill plate) temperature control to the desired heating level between OFF, LOW and MAX. The Led screen light on and the digital start flashing, indicating that the product is heating up. As soon as the set temperature is reached, the digital stop flashing.

  5. Lay the grill items onto the heating surfaces without adding extra fat or oil. Set the desired temperature using the control dial.

  6. Turn over the food after a certain time.

  7. The grill items are cooked in their own juices and excessive liquids flow into the grease drip tray.
    Note
    Oil/fat remains collected with supplied drip tray must not be re-used.

  8. Only use utensils made of heat-resistant plastic or wood to remove the grilled food from the heating plate.
    Note
    Never touch the grill plates with sharp or abrasive items, as this would damage the grill plates surface.
    Caution

    • Depending on the type and quality of the food, it could become very hot during grilling.
    • Foods with a high water content, such as tomatoes, will especially become very hot.
    • So be extremely careful when grilling and especially when removing these types of foods.

AFTER GRILLING

  • After using the product, turn both temperature controls to OFF.
  • Unplug the power plug from the power outlet and let the product cool down.
  • After product is cool down completely, close the upper casing.

CLEANING AND CARE
Caution
Always unplug the product from the power outlet and let the product cool down.

  • Remove the grease drip tray carefully from the product and rinse it with hot water and a neutral dishwashing detergent. The oil inside the tray can be very hot, let it cool down completely before cleaning.

  • Remove excess grease with a paper towel before detaching the grill plates.

  • To detach the grill plates, push the respective release buttons on the upper and lower housing. Clean the grill plates and the grease drip tray with a soft cloth or sponge and hot water.
    Note
    Grease or food residue between the grill plate grooves can be removed with the supplied cleaning spatula.
    Attention! Do not use the spatula on hot grill plates.

  • Use a damp cloth or a soft sponge and warm water with a little dishwashing detergent to clean the product’s housing.

  • After each cleaning, dry all surfaces thoroughly before further use of the product.

  • Dry the grill plates and especially theirs electric contacts and reassemble the product. The grill plates can only be mounted in their respective positions.

  • First insert the long sides opposite the release buttons into the housing.

  • Then push the other long sides into the latches so that the release buttons click and the grill plates engage.
