Leaf vacuum and shredder GSH 6500 B
Steel suction turbine, adjustable suction head, easy handling with ergonomic handle and large pneumatic tires. Integral shredder, 2 forward and 2 reverse speeds, sturdy, high quality catcher bag. For areas of 1500-2000 m².

Ideal for use around the house and yard, car parks and parking areas, for small to medium-sized gardens and sites.

Warranty

The warranty only covers defects caused by material or manufacturing flaws.
When lodging a claim under the warranty, the original receipt showing the date of sale must be attached.
Incorrect use, such as overloading the machine, use of force, damage by outside intervention or foreign bodies, is not covered by the warranty. The warranty also does not cover a failure to comply with the instructions for use and assembly, and normal wear and tear.

General safety information

Read the instructions for use carefully.
Familiarise yourself with the settings and the correct use of the machine. Above all, find out how to switch off the engine quickly and safely in the event of an emergency.

1. Check the ambient conditions in which you are working. The engine generates toxic emissions as soon as it is running. These emissions may be odorless and invisible. You should therefore never use the machine in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas. Ensure you have adequate lighting whilst you are working.
2. Do not allow other people to use the machine. Visitors and spectators, above all children and ill or frail people, should be kept away from the work area. Prevent other people gaining access to the tools.
3. Never use the machine in wet, icy or snowy conditions.
4. Ensure that you store tools in a safe place. Tools which are not in use must be locked in a dry place as high as possible where they are out of the reach of children.
5. Wear suitable clothing. The clothing must be fit for purpose and must not hinder you as you work.
6. Use personal protection equipment. Where safety footwear with steel caps/soles and soles with good grip.
7. Wear ear protection. Wear personal ear protection, for example earplugs.
8. Remain alert at all times. Watch what you are doing. Use your common sense. Do not use motorized tools when you are tired. Do not work with the machine if you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication which may adversely affect your reactions.
9. Refuelling. Always switch off the engine before refuelling. Always open the fuel tank cover carefully so that any pressure in the tank can dissipate slowly and no fuel is sprayed out. Working with the pavement vacuum creates high temperatures on the housing. You should therefore allow the machine to cool before refuelling it. Otherwise the fuel could ignite and result in serious burns. When refueling, ensure that you do not attempt to add too much fuel. If any liquid is spilt, mop it up immediately and clean the machine. After refuelling, ensure that the cover thread is properly secure so that it cannot be loosened by the vibrations generated during operation.
10. Length of use and breaks. Lengthy use of the motorized machine may result in circulation problems in the hands caused by vibrations. However, you can extend the length of use by wearing suitable gloves or taking regular breaks. Reduce the length of use if you suffer from poor circulation or are affected by low outdoor temperatures or high gripping forces may fatigue you.
11. Check for damaged parts. Inspect the tool before you use it. Are any of the components damaged? If you find signs of minor damage, you should seriously question whether the tool will nevertheless work perfectly and safely. Ensure that moving parts are correctly aligned and adjusted. Do the parts engage in each other correctly? Are any of the components damaged? Has everything been installed correctly? Have all the other conditions for perfect operation been satisfied? Damaged guards, etc. must be properly repaired or replaced by authorized personnel unless expressly stated to the contrary in the operating manual. Defective switches must be replaced by an authorized workshop. Contact your local service Centre if your machine requires any repair work.
12. Always switch off the engine before completing any settings or maintenance work.
13. Use approved parts only. Use identical spare parts only for maintenance and repair work. Contact your approved service centre for spare parts.

Warning The use of different suction nozzles, accessories and attachment parts which are not expressly recommended may result in danger to people and property.
The tool may only be used for its intended purpose. Any other use will be regarded as improper. The user bears sole responsibility for any property damage and personal injuries resulting from such improper use, the manufacturer cannot accept any liability in this case.
The manufacturer cannot accept any liability if its machines are modified or used incorrectly, resulting in damage or injury.
IMPORTANT
Even when the tool is used correctly, a certain amount of residual risk, which cannot be excluded, remains. The type and design of the tool may result in the following potential dangers:

• Contact with the unguarded rotor fan (cuts).
• Reaching into the moving rotor (cuts).
• Hearing damage if proper protection is not worn.
• Harmful dust and gas development if the machine is used in enclosed areas (nausea).

Do not stand in the danger area created by the leaf vacuum and shredder.
Never allow children or other people who are not familiar with the instructions for use to use the machine.
Local regulations may set the minimum age of the user.
Never use the vacuum whilst other people, particularly children or animals, are in the vicinity. Remember that the machine operator or user is responsible for accidents involving other people or their property.

Preparations

Always wear stout footwear and long trousers when using the machine. Never use the machine in bare feet or in lightweight sandals.
Check the terrain on which the machine is used and remove all items which the machine cannot handle.

Warning: Petrol is highly inflammable.
Only keep petrol in containers designed for it. Only refuel outdoors and do not smoke during the process. Refuel before starting the engine.
The tank cover must not be opened and the machine must not be refuelled whilst the engine is running or is hot from use.
Do not attempt to start the engine if any petrol has overflowed. Instead the machine must be removed from the area contaminated with petrol. Do not attempt to use the machine, use naked flames or generate sparks until the petrol vapours have dissipated. For safety reasons, the petrol tank and other tank covers must be replaced if they have been damaged. Replace any defective silencers. Before use, conduct a visual inspection to check the suction nozzle, fastening elements and the whole unit for signs of wear or damage.

Safety information when starting the machine for the first time

Do not allow the internal combustion engine to run in enclosed areas in which dangerous carbon monoxide can accumulate.
Only use the leaf vacuum in daylight or in good artificial light. Always ensure that you have good footing, particularly on slopes. Only move with the machine at walking pace.
Take special care when changing direction on slopes. Do not use the machine on excessively steep slopes (max. 30°).
Stop the engine if the machine has to be tipped up.
Never use the leaf vacuum and shredder with damaged guards or safety grilles or without the guards fitted.
The operator must keep the safe distance from the machine defined by the struts at all times when working with the pavement sweeping machine, particularly when turning.
Do not change the settings of the engine or over-rev it.
Start the engine carefully following the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure that your feet are in an adequate distance from the nozzle. Never place your hands or feet on or below rotating parts.
Check for damage and carry out the required repairs before restarting work with the leaf vacuum and shredder.
Stop and switch off the leaf vacuum and shredder immediately if it suffers any malfunctions. Have all faults rectified immediately. Switch off the engine if you move away from the leaf vacuum and shredder or before you refuel it.

Maintenance and storage

Ensure that all nuts, bolts and screws are secure and that the machine is safe to use.
Never store the leaf vacuum and shredder with petrol in its tank inside a building in which petrol vapours may come into contact with naked flames or sparks.
Allow the engine to cool before you place the leaf vacuum and shredder in an enclosed area.
Keep the engine, exhaust and the area around the fuel tank free of moss, grass, leaves or escaping grease (oil) to prevent fires. Replace worn or damaged parts for your own safety.
If the fuel tank needs to be drained, do so outdoors. Protect the environment!

Intended use

The leaf vacuum and shredder is designed for normal use in site cleaning.
Any other use will be deemed incorrect.
The motorized shredder is designed for shredding shrubs, plants, privet hedge and tree cuttings up to the maximum specified diameter (conifer cuttings may cause blockages).
IMPORTANT
The shredder is not suitable for treating garden soil, for example, and must never be used for shredding metal parts, stones, soil, glass, textiles, paper, cardboard or plastic, for example. These materials will seriously damage the cutting tool. There is also a risk of stone strike.
If you fail to follow the general regulations and the instructions in this manual, the manufacturer cannot accept any liability for damage.

Only use the pavement vacuum machine in dry weather and on dry surfaces. (Never use it in wet conditions)
The manufacturer cannot accept any liability for resulting damage; the user bears all the risk in this case. Intended use also includes compliance with the operating, servicing and maintenance instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Unauthorised modifications to the leaf vacuum and shredder exclude any liability on the part of the manufacturer for resulting damage.
The leaf vacuum and shredder is not suitable for vacuuming inflammable, explosive, toxic, carcinogenic or other harmful substances and materials.

Do not vacuum any burning or glowing items such as cigarettes, matches or the like.
If glass, metal or other materials must be removed from the catcher bag by hand, always wear gloves to prevent injuries. Poor lighting means an increased safety risk.
Always ensure there is adequate lighting when working with the machine.

Waste disposal
The disposal instructions are shown in the pictograms on the machine or packaging. A description of the various symbols is provided in the section entitled “Labels”.

Requirements for the operator
The operator must have read the operating manual carefully before using the machine.

Qualifications
Other than detailed induction training by a trained person, no special qualifications are required for using the machine.

Minimum age
The machine may only be used by people over the age of 16.
It may be used by young people if this use forms part of vocational training to achieve a qualification under the supervision of a trainer.

Assembly / Starting for the first time
The steering strut is supplied pointing towards the vacuum unit for transport reasons.

1. Take the leaf vacuum and shredder out of the packaging and first of all install the steering strut (Fig. 2) in the correct position (Fig. 2a).
2. The leaf catcher bag must be attached to the structure shown in Figure 1 and secured to the frame. The catcher bag is secured to the filler tube using Velcro tape (Fig. 5).
3. Then install the nozzle (Fig. 3).
4. The shredder hopper is installed as shown in Fig. 5.
   Adjust the suction head (Fig. 9)
   Undo the wing nuts (Fig. 9 Arrow) and adjust the suction lip downwards or upwards. Retighten the suction lip with the wing nuts.

Refuel

This engine will run perfectly using conventional petrol (at least 91 RON).
If the machine is not to be used for longer than 30 days, drain the fuel completely to prevent resinous residues in the carburetor, fuel filter and tank.
Refuel the machine by opening the tank cover (Fig. 6/Arrow) and filling the tank with fuel up to a maximum of 2 cm below the filler neck. Avoid skin contact with fuel. Ensure that you always use clean, uncontaminated fuel. Always close the tank cover properly after every refueling or inspection process.
Take the machine and go to the area you wish to clean.
Check that all parts are secure and check for signs of damage. Check that the spark plug connector is secure.
The following must be completed before starting the machine.

• Before it is started for the first time, the engine must be filled with engine oil.
• Add fuel to the tank.

Important note: The engine in your new machine requires a certain time to run in. This means that the machine will not work at full capacity until it has been operating for several hours.

Add engine oil to the gearbox (Fig. 17/Arrow B)
Never attempt to start the machine unless it has an adequate amount of SAE 15 W 40 oil in the engine block. It is possible that when the machine is supplied it contains no engine oil. If the machine is operated without (adequate) engine oil, the engine will be damaged. Place the machine on a flat surface and remove the oil tank cover. Add engine oil up to the last thread on the filler neck.
Move the petrol cock (Fig. 16 Arrow B) to the “ON” position.
Move the engine switch (Fig. 17/Arrow A) to the “ON” position.
Slide the throttle to position

If the engine is cold, move the choke lever (Fig. 16 Arrow A) into the “ON” position until it has warmed up (around 1-2 minutes). When the engine has been started and is running smoothly, move the choke lever to OFF (disable it).
The speed of the engine can be controlled using the throttle. Pushing the lever towards the operator reduces the speed of the engine, pushing it away from the operator increases its speed.
Pull the starter cord as follows:
Please note
Hold the engine securely by the frame with one hand. Take hold of the starter cord in your other hand and pull it slowly until you feel resistance and the starter element is in the required position. When you can feel resistance, pull the cord powerfully in a single tug. Repeat this process until the engine starts. Do not simply release the starter cord, you should always return it to its position loosely in one hand. If the engine does not start after several attempts, check whether the fuel tank has been filled correctly. There may be too much fuel in the cylinder, thus making the spark plug damp

Move the engine switch (Fig. 17/Arrow) to the “OFF” position.
Shredding
Place the material for shredding slowly into the hopper.
Always use the pushing tool to push material into the hopper. Do not add the material too quickly as the shredding unit requires a certain time to shred the material.
Blockages
If the shredding process does not work due to parts being blocked in the machine:

• Switch off the engine and wait until all moving parts have reached a standstill.
• Disconnect the spark plug connector.
• Remove the filler tube (Fig. 1; Item F)
• Remove the shaft (Fig. 1; Item W)
• Remove the suction tube (Fig. 4)
• Put on a pair of safety gloves
• Remove all the blocking parts in the turbine housing and on the screen (Fig. 10)

Knife replacement

If the shredded material is no longer cut cleanly, if the shredding noise is very loud or if the shredded material is no longer caught correctly by the hopper, this could be due to the knives being blunt.

• Switch off the engine and wait until all moving parts have reached a standstill.
• Disconnect the spark plug connector.
• Remove the maintenance flap on the rear part of the turbine housing (Fig. 11)
• Put on a pair of safety gloves
• Turn the knife shaft until the knives are accessible through the maintenance flap. (Fig. 12)
• Unscrew the knives through the maintenance flap (remember the position of the knives as the new ones must be installed in the same position – with the blades at the top).

Tip: The knives can be turned once since they have blades at both sites.

Operation

In the event of dangerous situations or accidents, move the engine switch as quickly as possible to the “OFF” position to stop the engine.
During operation ensure that cooling and combustion air can be drawn in freely by the engine (leaves can block the intake ducts). Also ensure that the exhaust gases can escape freely.

Operation and vacuuming
The machine has two forward speeds and two reverse speeds. First select the required speed (Fig. 1; Item 3).
Press the clutch lever (Fig. 1; Item 2).
The machine will start to move.

Vacuuming with the extended nozzle
If you need to use the leaf vacuum in areas with difficult access, we recommend you fit the extended nozzle. To do so, unscrew the nozzle and fit the vacuum hose (Fig. 14 and 15).

Ending work or breaks
After completing the last vacuuming cycle, allow the machine to continue at idling speed without a load for 1 to 2 minutes. (Cooling phase for the engine)

Switch off the engine

What to do in an emergency

Administer the appropriate first aid for the injury and request medical assistance as quickly as possible. Protect the injured person from further harm and keep him or her calm.
A first aid kit which complies with DIN 13164 should be to hand at the workplace at all times to provide treatment in the event of an accident. Material removed from the first aid kit should be replaced without delay.
When requesting assistance, provide the following information:

1. Location of accident
2. Type of accident
3. Number of injured people
4. Type of injuries

Inspection and maintenance

It is essential that you have any repair work carried out exclusively by trained personnel.
Disconnect the spark plug connector before carrying out any modifications, settings or maintenance work on the machine.

The leaf vacuum and shredder must be cleaned after use, particularly the nozzle.
Servicing, maintenance, repairs and storage

General information
Pay particular attention to the safety information
Regular maintenance work is essential to ensure that your leaf vacuum and shredder functions perfectly.

In particular, the nozzle and leaf catcher bag must be cleaned and serviced carefully to prevent damage or even accidents.
Take the following precautions before starting any maintenance work:

• Disconnect the spark plug connector,
• place the machine in a stable position,
• wait until the engine has cooled down

Cleaning

Keep the machine clean and tidy at all times.
Only clean the engine with a cloth. Do not spray the machine with a powerful water jet since water can get into the ignition, fuel and lubricating oil systems and cause faults.

Technical data

Placing in storage

If you do not intend to use the leaf vacuum and shredder for a lengthy period of time, you should carry out the following work.
Thoroughly clean and touch up paintwork damage. Grease the lubrication points and allow the leaf vacuum and shredder to run for 1 – 2 minutes. Spray the sweeping brush and chassis with anti-corrosive oil. Thoroughly clean and dry the leaf catcher bag.

Position and store the leaf vacuum and shredder
Do not transport, position or store the leaf vacuum and shredder tilted forwards, backwards or to the side.
Do not keep the leaf vacuum and shredder in damp rooms, in rooms in which artificial fertilizers are stored, in stables or in rooms next to them. Tilting the machine may allow engine oil to get into the combustion chamber which may cause starting difficulties and oil coking, giving rise to a danger of serious corrosion.

Troubleshooting

If your pavement vacuum suffers faults which require major intervention, always have it repaired by a professional workshop. Inexpert intervention may cause damage.

If faults cannot be rectified using the remedies described below, consult a professional workshop.
