Printing Patient Discharge Instructions for Nurses
- Ensure you are logged into the Cerner PowerChart EDUCATION system.
- Access the patient’s medical record and navigate to the discharge instructions section.
- Follow these steps to print the instructions:
- Select the desired template: Print Discharge Instructions.
- Choose the purpose as Further Medical Care.
- Click on Preview on Medical Record Request.
- Refresh the page to update the request status.
- Right-click on the Pending request and select Display Report.
- Review the Inpatient Discharge Instructions and click on Print.

- Q: Can I select a specific printer for printing the discharge instructions?
- A: The Preview option does not allow users to select a specific printer, and the instructions will not include the nurse’s last name.
- Q: How do I know which template to choose for printing?

Printing Patient Discharge Instructions
- These instructions use the Preview option which does not allow users to select a specific printer and will NOT print the nurse’s last name on the instructions.
Steps to Printing Patient Discharge Instructions
Discharge Instructions will be printed using Medical Record Request (MRR)
printing.
- Select Patient Discharge Instructions under Create Note in Discharge – Nurse Workflow
- Click Sign/Submit.
- Click Sign & Print
- Use the drop-down menu to make selections for:
- Template, select Print Discharge Instructions
- Purpose, select Further Medical Care
- Click Preview on Medical Record Request
- The Submitted Requests tab will open
- Click the refresh button to update the request from dithered to available
- Right-click on the Pending request and select Display Report
- Inpatient Discharge Instructions will load
- Select Print
