**BEFORE INSTALLATION

**

For vehicles with a leafspring suspension, it is recommended to not remove the spring leafs prior to installing the four-links. This will prevent the rearend from shifting during the installation process and will also preset its location. To ensure accuracy, it is crucial to verify that the rearend is centered both side to side and front to back within the vehicle
When starting from scratch to install an air ride system on your vehicle, it is essential to set it up at a comfortable working height. Then, place the rear end under the car at ride height, keeping in mind that with an air ride system, you can deflate it to drop the car by approximately 4 inches from this height.
Ensure proper centering of the rear end by measuring the distance between the frame and the wheel mounting or bearing flange of the rear end, on both sides. Ensure that these measurements are equal. It is highly recommended to create mock-ups and secure the parts through tack welding prior to final welding. In the event of necessary modifications, tacks can be easily removed and cleaned for greater efficiency.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Center the rearend in the wheel opening roughly first. But when all installation completed, you should make sure that the rearend is square to the frame and that the distance between the axle centerlines [front to rear] are equal on each side of the car.

  2. Align the pinion angle as closely as possible with the transmission. This will aid in achieving a precise pinion angle adjustment upon completing the installation.

  3. Double-check and repeat the pinion angle and rearend centering to ensure proper placement. When fine-tuning placement, avoid moving the rearend during installation by tacking some sections to the jackstands.

  4. Properly placing the rearend allows for installation of the lower bracket/bar assembly in either the inside or outside of the frame for the 4 link kit. To determine placement, assemble the lower axle bracket, lower bar, and lower frame bracket and apply anti-sieze to the rod ends. With 1/4″ of thread showing on the shaft, install the bars and level them with the car to decide the optimal location for the lower frame bracket, which will determine the side-to-side location of the lower axle brackets. If placing the lower bars under the frame, trim the wings off the lower frame bracket and check for proper ground clearance.

  5. Tack the lower frame brackets in place, but avoid fully welding them in case changes are necessary.

  6. Place the lower axle brackets onto the axle tube at the same distance apart as the lower frame brackets. The back of these brackets should be plumb [Perpendicular to the ground] and must be level with each other! One way to accomplish this is to tack one bracket and then use a piece of angle that is clamped across the back of the bracket to check the angle of the other. This will ensure that the lower 4 link mounting points are even from front to back.

  7. Install the upper 4 link bar onto its brackets and tabs, leaving 1/4″ of thread showing for final adjustment. Note that two of the tabs that weld to the rearend are larger to account for the angle of the housing. These larger tabs should be placed on the outside of the bars and may require trimming for proper fit.

  8. Position the upper bar assembly against the frame and rearend, aligning the rearend tabs with the center section and the frame brackets against the frame at an angle. Ensure that the upper bars are as level as possible with the car. If necessary, box the frame where the upper frame brackets will be placed.
    Note three main goals here:
(1). Upper bars level with each other.
(2). Upper bars at the same side to side distance on the axle housing.
[Note that on most 9” Ford rearends, the center section is offset, so the axle tabs will appear to be located in different locations on the rearend.] (3). Upper bars at the same front to back distance on the frame. It may take several adjustments to satisfy all of these measurements, but they must be satisfied!
When you are satisfied that the bars are located properly, tack them in place.

  9. Check for interference or binding in the rod ends by raising and lowering the rearend using a supported floor jack. If there are no issues, proceed with final welding.

AFTER INSTALLATION

Perform a road test to determine the correct pinion angle. Increased vibration during acceleration indicates a high pinion yoke, which can be corrected by gradually rotating downward. Increased vibration during deceleration indicates a low pinion yoke, which can be corrected by rotating upward.
