Assembly

Inserting/Replacing Batteries
It is recommended that you use alkaline manganese batteries to operate the measuring tool.
To open the battery compartment cover (2), press the locking mechanism (3) and fold the battery compartment cover up. Insert the batteries.
When inserting the batteries, ensure that the polarity is correct according to the illustration on the inside of the battery compartment.

Battery Indicator
The LED tilt indicator (4) flashes after being switched on and indicates the current battery status for 3 seconds as follows:

Always replace all the batteries at the same time. Only use batteries from the same manufacturer and which have the same capacity.

  • Take the batteries out of the measuring tool when you are not using it for a prolonged period of time. The batteries can corrode and self-discharge during prolonged storage in the measuring tool.

Operation

Starting Operation

  • Protect the measuring tool from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Do not expose the measuring tool to any extreme temperatures or variations in temperature. For example, do not leave it in a car for extended periods of time. In case of large variations in temperature, allow the measuring tool to adjust to the ambient temperature before putting it into operation. The precision of the measuring tool may be compromised if exposed to extreme temperatures or variations in temperature.
  • Keep the supporting surfaces and contact edges of the measuring tool clean. Protect the measuring tool against shock and impact. Dirt particles or deformations can lead to faulty measurements.
  • Avoid hard knocks to the measuring tool or dropping it. After strong external influences on the measuring tool, you should always carry out calibration before further work.

Switching On and Off
To switch the measuring tool on or off, press the on/off button (5).
If no button on the measuring tool is pressed or the measuring tool is not moved for approx. 20 min, the measuring tool will automatically switch itself off to preserve battery life.

Switching the Audio Signal On and Off
Press the audio signal button (6) to switch the audio signal on or off. When you switch on the measuring tool, the audio signal is switched off as standard.

Tilt Indicator
Place the measuring tool on the vertical or horizontal surface being measured.

For each movement of the measuring tool, the measured value is updated. The measured value is displayed visually on the LED tilt indicators on the top side (1) and the front side (4) and acoustically via an audio signal as follows:BOSCH-70538-Easy-Spirit-Level- \(4\)

The supplied labels contain information about the tilt indicator.

Calibrating the Measuring Tool
Check the accuracy of the measuring tool prior to critical measurements, after intense variations in temperature as well as after heavy impact.

Perform a measurement to check the accuracy. Turn the measuring tool by 180° around the vertical axis and perform the same measurement again. Compare the two measured values. If the measured values are not identical, calibrate the measuring tool.

Performing the Calibration
The surface onto which you place the measuring tool must not deviate from the horizontal surface by more than 3°. You can find further information on calibration on the supplied stickers.

  • Switch on the measuring tool .
  • Press and hold the audio signal button (6) for 5 seconds. All LEDs on the LED tilt indicator (4) will flash green.
  • Place the measuring tool on a horizontal surface.
  • Briefly press the audio signal button (6) to start calibration. The LEDs on the LED tilt indicator (4) will flash successively.
  • If the first calibration has been completed successfully, all LEDs on the LED tilt indicator (4) will flash green simultaneously and a brief audio signal will sound.
  • Turn the measuring tool 180° around the vertical axis: The LED tilt indicator on the top side (1) will still face upwards and the LED tilt indicator on the front side (4) will now be on the side facing away from you.
  • Briefly press the audio signal button (6) again. The LEDs on the LED tilt indicator (4) will flash successively again.
  • If the second calibration has been completed successfully, all LEDs on the LED tilt indicator (4) will light up green continuously and two brief audio signals will sound. The measuring tool can now be operated.
  • Note : If the calibration has failed, the measuring tool returns to measuring mode. The calibration needs to be restarted.

A second calibration can be performed on a vertical surface for verification. To do so, perform the steps listed above on a vertical surface that does not deviate from the vertical plane by more than 3° and turn the measuring tool by 180° around the horizontal axis.

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • Keep the measuring tool clean at all times.
  • Never immerse the measuring tool in water or other liquids.
  • Wipe off any dirt using a damp, soft cloth. Do not use any detergents or solvents.
  • When the measuring tool is exposed to rain for an extended period, its function may be impaired. However, after completely drying off, the measuring tool is ready for operation. No calibration is required.
