AKO Sun Power S250 Instruction Manual
The AKO Sun Power S250 electrifier is a lightweight, compact solar-powered device that’s ideal for restraining your animals. The Sun Power S250 can electrify fences of up to 3 kilometres with no parasitic vegetation and up to 0.7 kilometres with average parasitic vegetation. The integrated 3-watt solar panel converts sunlight into energy to power the fence and recharge the built-in 12-volt battery. When night falls, the energiser uses the battery to power the fence. This mode of operation means virtually maintenance-free operation from spring to autumn.
Thanks to intelligent battery management, the Sun Power S250 is able to power a fence even in prolonged bad weather, automatically reducing the power output to save battery power.
Its LED control screen can be used to check the voltage delivered (green LED = voltage greater than 3000 volts) and the battery voltage (red = discharged battery), but it also uses a blue LED to indicate that the solar panel is operating.
The Sun Power S250 comes with a battery charger fitted with an LED indicator showing the battery’s charge status (steady green = battery charged, flashing red = battery charging).

Loading instructions
Before using and operating the Sun Power S250 energiser, we recommend that you
charge the 12-volt battery for at least 12 hours without interruption. This
will maximise the life of the battery. Only use the original charger to charge
the 12-volt battery, otherwise irreversible damage may occur. This charger is
only compatible with the 12 volt battery supplied with the Sun Power S250, do
not use this charger for other batteries. To charge the battery, please follow
the steps below:
1. Description of elements
- 12-volt battery
- 12-volt battery charger
- Traffic sign
- Fixing screw for wooden post
- Fence connection cable
- Earth connection cable
- Screw for earth connection cable / earth spike
- Earth stake
- Sun Power S250 energiser
2. Charging the 12-volt battery
To optimise the life of the battery, it is essential to charge it for the first time using the charger supplied. The 12-volt battery is located at the rear of the energiser. To remove it, unscrew the screw from the protective cover, remove the protective cover and take out the battery:
To charge the battery, disconnect the white PVC terminals from the “+” (red) and “-” (black) terminals. We advise you to keep these PVC terminals for storing the battery when not in use (see point 3. Important information about the 12-volt battery).
Then connect the charger’s connection clamps, observing the correct polarity: the black clamp to the “-” (black) terminal and the red clamp to the “+” (red) terminal, then connect the charger to a 220-volt electrical socket.
Once connected, a flashing red LED will indicate that the 12-volt battery is being charged.
When charging is complete, the green LED will remain steady.
We recommend that you leave the charger connected to the 12-volt battery for at least 12 consecutive hours when charging for the first time.
3. Important information about the 12-volt battery
When the battery is no longer in use (winter storage), store it in a clean, dry, well-ventilated place where the temperature is around 20°C. Always fully charge the 12-volt battery before prolonged storage to optimise its life (one full day without interruption). We strongly recommend recharging the battery every 3 months or more during storage to maintain a charge rate close to 100% and avoid deep discharges (voltage below 11.8 Volts).
We also recommend that you disconnect the cables connecting the energiser to the battery and replace the white PVC terminals on the 12volt battery terminals. This will limit self-discharge and prevent accidental short- circuits.
Recharge the battery for a full day without interruption before putting it into service. When the appliance is in use, we advise you to fully charge it once a month using the charger to optimise the life of the battery. If you follow these instructions, the battery should last between 3 and 4 years.
4. Fitting the 12-volt battery
Once the 12-volt battery is fully charged, install it in the Sun Po- wer S250 energiser.
Make sure the switch is in the “Then connect the power cables. Connect the “+” (red) and “-” (black) terminals of the energiser to the battery.
Replace the protective cover and tighten the screw by hand.
5. Connecting accessories
The Sun Power S250 energiser is supplied with fence connection cable (n°5) and
earth connection cable (n°6).
To connect them, unscrew the red terminal on the energiser, then insert the
fence connection cable (n°5). Then unscrew the black terminal from the
energiser and insert the eyelet for the earth connection cable (no. 6). Screw
the red and black terminals back onto the energiser by hand.
6. Earth spike connection
To connect the earth connection cable (no. 6) to the earth terminal (no. 8),
use the screws supplied (no. 7).
We advise you to keep the extra nuts and bolts in case you lose them.
7. Setting up the Sun Power S250
To install your Sun Power S250, start by driving the earth spike (n°8) into
loose, damp soil up to the first hole, preferably as close as possible to the
fence. Then connect the fence connection cable (#5) to the conductor (wire,
tape or cord).
For optimum operation of the solar panel, please ensure that it faces south,
so as to benefit from the longest period of sunlight. Avoid placing the Sun
Power S250 in the shade of bushes, trees, buildings, etc. Once the location
has been chosen, turn the switch to position “1” and check the voltage on the
fence using a special fence tester.
8. Description of indicator lights
The Sun Power S250 energiser is equipped with an LED display to check the voltage delivered (flashing green LED = voltage greater than 3000 volts) and the state of charge of the battery (red = battery discharged). A flashing blue LED also indicates that the solar panel is operating.
9. Guarantee
The Sun Power S250 energiser comes with a 3-year guarantee from the date of purchase. Please make sure you keep the purchase invoice as proof of warranty.
This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, failure to follow the instructions in this manual or deep discharges of the battery (voltage below 11.8 Volts). Batteries that have been dismantled, opened, cracked or show signs of impact or corrosion will be excluded from any warranty.
