Product Usage Instructions
Introduction
The Sheen Machine plug-in window contains controls for adjusting the sheen effect applied to incoming audio signals.
How It Works
The Sheen Machine utilizes Structural SplitTM technology to separate incoming audio signals into Transient and Tonal streams. Adjust the Sheen control to apply tonal high-end to the signal.
A Note About Latency
The Structural SplitTM technology introduces latency to the audio signal processing. Refer to the table below for latency values based on different sample rates. Ensure your DAW compensates for latency to avoid audible delays.
Sample Rate (Hz) | 44,100 | 48,000 | 88,200 | 96,000 | 176,400 | 192,000 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Latency (Samples) | 3,592 | 3,592 | 7,176 | 7,176 | 14,344 | 14,344 |
FAQ
- Q: Is the Sheen Machine suitable for real-time use during live performances?
- A: Due to inherent latency in the processing, Sheen Machine is not recommended for real-time use during tracking or live performances.

- A: F or further questions or support, visit Eventide’s user forums or check out their other native plug-in offerings for more effects.
Welcome
A Sheen Machine is a purpose-driven tool for adding smooth and airy high-end to sound sources without introducing the high-frequency harshness often generated by a traditional high-shelf boost. Using Eventide’s patented Structural Split™ technology, Sheen Machine provides a simple solution for resolving complex problems often introduced when adding ”sheen” to a signal. Sheen Machine incorporates Eventide’s patented Structural Split™ technology to split the incoming audio into Transient and Tonal signals: the rapidly changing parts of the input signal are identified as Transient, while the remaining, sustaining elements are considered Tonal.
Sheen Machine
Introduction
The plug-in window for the Sheen Machine contains the following controls:
-
Bypass Bypass the plug-in. When bypassed, the sheen is not applied to incoming signal.
-
Sheen Controls the amount of tonal high-end (sheen) to apply to the incoming signal. The leftmost knob position applies no sheen to the incoming signal whereas the rightmost knob position applies the maximum amount of sheen to the incoming signal
-
Gain Sets the output volume of the plug-in, with a range of -60dB to +12dB

Undo The Undo button undoes the last change, and restores the plug-in to the previous state. Pressing this button multiple times will move you backward in the plug-in’s state history
How It Works
Using Eventide’s patented Structural Split™ technology, Sheen Machine operates two parametric EQs in parallel: one for the Transient signal, and one for the Tonal signal. As the Sheen knob is adjusted, high-shelf EQ curves with differing amounts of gain are applied to the Tonal and Transient signals, enhancing and emphasizing the tonal high end qualities of the incoming signal. By separately processing the Transient and Tonal signals, Sheen Machine offers a cleaner and more intuitive approach to solving certain tonal high-frequency problems. This is useful because many tough EQ problems can be formulated as ”I want to do X without doing Y.” For example, Sheen Machine can easily add an ”airy” quality to vocals without introducing transient harshness that a traditional high-shelf boost might. Sheen Machine’s surgical approach makes it the perfect solution for adding high-end sheen.
A Note About Latency
In order to effectively separate the incoming audio signal into Transient and
Tonal audio streams, the Structural Split™ keeps a small running history of
the audio signal. This introduces latency, which is expected. Most modern DAWs
will compensate for such latency, so Sheen Machine will not audibly delay the
audio signal in your sessions. However, due to this inherent latency, Sheen
Machine is not intended for real-time use during tracking or live performance.
Conclusion
We hope you enjoy the Sheen Machine plug-in and put it to good use in all of you mixes. Please be sure to check out Eventide’s other native plug-in offerings for more unique and interesting effects. For further questions or support, head over to the user forums.
