INTRODUCTION
The 1/2 horsepower furnace electric motor is mounted on a resilient base to
reduce vibration and noise during operation. The ball-bearing construction
reduces wear and improves the operating life of the motor. The fan design
cools the motor and prevents overheating.

WORK AREA
- Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well lit and free of distractions.
- Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the work area.
- Store unused devices properly in a safe and dry location to prevent rust or damage. Lock devices away and keep out of the reach of children.
- Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or liquids.

WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
- Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
- Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to reduce the effects of tool vibration.

- Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the moving parts of a device. Keep long hair covered or bound.
- Do not overreach when operating a device. Proper footing and balance enable better control in unexpected situations.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
DANGER! Only qualified personnel, trained in the safe installation and
operation of this equipment, should install this motor. When improperly
installed or used, rotating equipment can cause serious or fatal injury.
Before you install, operate or perform maintenance, become familiar with the
following:
- NEMA Publication MG-2: Safety Standard for Construction and Guide for Selection, Installation and Use of Electric Motors.
- IEC 60072-1 Electrical and IEC72-1 Mechanical specifications ANSI C51.5
- The Canadian Electrical Code (CE) and local codes and practices.
- OSHA standard 1910.147 titled: The Control of Hazardous Energy (lockout/tag-out).

Use the correct device for the job. This device was designed for a specific function. Do not modify or alter this device or use it for
an unintended purpose. -
Connect Power and Ground to the motor according to the Canadian Electrical Code (CE) or IEC and local codes.

Provide a permanent guard to prevent accidental contact of body parts or clothing with rotating or moving parts of the motor. Beware of burns if the motor is hot.

The shaft key must be secured before starting the motor.

Mounting bolts should be high tensile steel. Be sure to use a suitable locking device on each bolt (spring washer or thread lock compound).

Do not apply power to the motor until the motor is securely mounted by its mounting holes.

This motor must only be connected to the proper line voltage, line frequency, and load size.

Motors are not to be used for load holding or restraining unless a properly sized brake is installed. If a motor-mounted brake is installed, provide proper safeguards in case of brake failure.

Disconnect all power services, stop the motor, and allow it to cool before servicing.

For single-phase motors, discharge the start and/or run capacitors before servicing.

Do not bypass or disable any safety devices.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
- Disconnect the device from the power source before cleaning, servicing, changing parts/accessories or when not in use.
- Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical equipment. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. There is an increased chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
- Do not expose the device to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a device will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not alter any parts of the device or accessories. All parts and accessories are designed with built-in safety features that may be compromised if altered.
- Make certain the power source conforms to the requirements of your equipment (see Specifications).
- When wiring an electrically driven device, follow all electrical and safety codes, as well as the most recent Canadian Electrical Code (CE) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

UNPACKING
- WARNING! Do not operate the device if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
- CAUTION! Use correct material handling equipment to avoid injury. Use caution when removing the motor from its packaging. Sharp corners may exist on the motor shaft, motor key, sheet metal, and other surfaces.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage. Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION MOUNTING
- Foot mounted: Foot-mounted motors should be mounted to a rigid foundation to prevent excessive vibration. Shims may be used if the location is uneven.
- Flange mounted: Flange-mounted motors should be properly seated and aligned. If improper rotation direction is detrimental to the load, check the rotation or ‘bump’ the motor before coupling the load to the motor shaft.
- V-belt drive: Mount the sheave pulley close to the motor housing. Allow clearance for end-to-end movement of the motor shaft. Do not over-tighten belts as this may cause premature bearing failure or shaft breakage.
- Direct coupled: Direct coupled motors should be carefully aligned and the shaft should rotate freely without binding or drag.
BUILD A GUARD
WARNING! Guards must be installed to form a safe and uncompromised
perimeter around rotating parts such as couplings, pulleys, external fans, and
unused shaft extensions.
After motor installation is complete, a guard of suitable dimensions must be
constructed and installed around the motor. This guard must prevent personnel
from coming in contact with any moving parts of the motor or drive assembly
but must allow sufficient cooling air to pass over the motor. If a motor-
mounted brake is installed, provide proper safeguards for personnel in case of
brake failure.
All parts should be permanently guarded to prevent accidental contact by personnel. Accidental contact with body parts or clothing can cause serious or fatal injury. When this motor is installed according to these instructions, it complies with the EEC Machinery Directive. Electromagnetic Compatibility(EMC) requirements for CE compliance are met when the incoming power is purely sinusoidal.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
GROUNDING THE MOTOR
Ground the motor according to CE and local codes. Consult the Canadian
Electrical Code (CE) for information on the grounding of motors and generators
and general information on grounding. In making the ground connection, the
installer should make certain that there is a solid and permanent metallic
connection between the ground point, the motor or generator terminal housing,
and the motor or generator frame.
WIRING YOUR MOTOR
- WARNING! Do not touch electrical connections unless you first ensure that power has been disconnected. Please refer to: OSHA standard 1910.147 titled: The Control of Hazardous Energy (lockout/tag-out).
- WARNING! Surface temperatures of motor enclosures may reach temperatures that can cause discomfort or injury to personnel coming in contact with hot surfaces. Protection should be provided by the user to protect against accidental contact with hot surfaces. Failure to observe this precaution could result in bodily injury.
Connect the motor as shown in the connection diagram on the motor nameplate. Be sure to identify the proper wiring diagram for the motor you are installing. If you have difficulty determining the proper wiring diagram for your motor, please contact Princess Auto for assistance.
If this motor is installed as part of a motor control drive system, connect and protect the motor according to the control manufacturer’s diagram. When using AC motors with frequency inverters, be certain that the motor’s maximum speed rating is not exceeded. The wiring, fusing, and grounding must comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CE) or International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and local codes.
If improper rotation direction is detrimental to the load, check the rotation or ‘bump’ the motor before coupling the load to the motor shaft. When the motor is coupled to the load and started, it should start quickly and run smoothly. If not, stop the motor immediately and determine the cause. Possible causes are: low voltage at the motor, motor connections are not correct or the load is too heavy. Check the motor current after a few minutes of operation and compare the measured current with the nameplate rating.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
- Maintain the device with care. A device in good condition is efficient, easier to control, and will have fewer problems.
- Inspect the device components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
- Maintain the device’s labels and nameplates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the device. An improperly repaired device may present a hazard to the user and/or others.
LUBRICATION
The bearings are permanently lubricated and do not require additional grease.
DISPOSAL
Recycle a device damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the device does not function properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician service the device.
