Thank you for choosing the disgo Tablet 8100 The Tablet 8100 is fully equipped to offer you complete browsing and multimedia experience.

IMPORTANT

  1. Please charge the Tablet 8100 continuously for 4 hours before use. For further details on charging the device, please see section 2.2
  2. For information on inserting/removing the Micro SD card, please refer to section 4 – Using Micro SD card. Failure to do so may result in damage to the memory card.
  3. Some applications run in full-screen mode. Icons will not be displayed on the toolbar. Please use the Menu button on the tablet to display the relevant menu options or the home button to return to the previous screen.
  4. Please do not save/transfer personal/media files to the onboard storage as this may slow down the operation of the device.

Button descriptions

The home button (14) Returns the user to the desktop

Power

  • When the tablet is switched off, press and hold this button to turn it on. When the tablet is turned on, press and hold this button to activate the shut-down window.
  • VOL + Increase the volume.
  • VOL Decreases the volume.
  • Menu Displays menu bar options for the current screen
  • The home button on the front of the tablet Returns the user to the previous screen.

Charging the tablet
Plug the adapter to the mains and the DC connector into the DC-in jack as shown in figure 2.1.1, (connection 5). A full charge takes up to 4 hours.

Using the tablet

Power on the device

  • Press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds in order to turn on the device.
  • When the tablet is turned on for the first time, you may need to calibrate the touch screen. Please follow the instructions on the screen to complete this process. To manually calibrate the device, please open the Settings menu, choose Touch screen calibrate and follow the onscreen instructions.

Using pre-installed apps

  • To open and use the pre-installed apps, simply touch the relevant icon/app.

Personalizing your desktop

  • To add an app to the home/desktop screen, access the applications screen (Fig 2.3.2). Touch and hold the app you would want on the desktop. The desktop will appear behind the icon. Move the icon to the desired area of the desktop and release the icon to confirm the placement.

Deleting an icon from the desktop

  • Touch and hold an icon until a dustbin icon appears on the Right-Hand Side of the screen. Drag the icon to the dustbin in order to delete the icon. Please note that this icon will still be accessible from the applications screen.

Using Widgets on your desktop

  • You can also add and delete widgets to/from the Home screen by using the procedures outlined in the previous two sections.

Sleep mode

  • Pressing the Power button will activate/deactivate sleep mode when the device is turned on.

Powering off the device

  • Press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds to activate the power-off screen. Please note, you can also access the Silent Mode option from this screen.

Toolbar

  • Home
    Touch on Home to return to the desktop. This action will not close the applications that are open.

  • Wi-Fi Indicator
    Displays the connection status of the Wi-Fi.

  • Battery Indicator
    Shows the charge status of the battery.

  • Time Indicator
    Shows current time

  • Volume Down
    Decreases volume

  • Volume Up
    Increases volume

  • Menu
    Shows the menu of the currently open application at the bottom of the screen

  • Back
    Returns to the previously viewed screen

  • Home
    Touch on Home to return to the desktop. This action will not close the applications that are open.

  • Wi-Fi
    The indicator Displays the connection status of the Wi-Fi.

Toolbar

Using standard applications
OI File Manager is a user-friendly application that provides basic file directory operations. The application can be used to copy files between folders as required. The application will also assist with managing files located on a MicroSD card and external storage drives which have been connected to the Tablet,

E-Mail
The system will try to automatically set up the Google Gmail account servers for the chosen Gmail logins. It is also possible to setup a mail account manually. Please refer to your email provider for details on how to setup up your account manually.Disgo-Tablet-7000-Android-2.3-7”-Touch-

Gallery
The gallery allows you to view media files stored on the device as well as files stored on external memory devices which are connected to the tablet .Disgo-Tablet-8100-Android-2.3-10.1”-Touch-screen-

Music
The Music application allows you to view and playback your music collection. Please note that music will be played in the background even if the back button is pressed. This allows the user to listen to music while reading an e-Book for example.

Sound Recorder
The sound recorder can be used as a Dictaphone and recordings are saved to the MicroSD card.Disgo-Tablet-7000-Android-2.3-7”-Touch-screen-

Camera
There are two camera modes; Snapshot mode, giving still images, and video recording mode. The images and video files are saved to the MicroSD card.

Touch the Settings icon to enter this menu.

Turn the Wi-Fi function On/Off

Wi-Fi settings
By enabling Network notification, a list of all available connections will be shown. Choose Menu to enter advanced options.

IMPORTANT

  • Upon exiting the Advanced page, touch Menu Save to save all changes.
  • If a network requires a password /wireless key, the tablet will automatically detect the encryption details and will request that you enter the key. If you are having difficulty connecting to your wireless network, please check your wireless router setup and select “Wireless b/g compatibility” or “legacy” modes on Wireless N-type routers.
Sound & display
Silent mode Turn mute option On/Off
Media volume Adjusts the volume for music and videos
Audible selection Play sound for screen selection.
Haptic feedback Turn On/Off Vibrate feature. Disable this function to save

battery life.
SD card notifications| Play sound for Micro SD card notifications.     This function is application dependent.
Orientation| Enable/disable automatic orientation mode. If disabled, the manual orientation icon will appear on top left beside the Home icon.
Animation| Selects page change effects; fade, etc.
Brightness| Adjusts the brightness of the screen.
Screen timeout| Adjusts the delay before the screen goes into standby.

Location & security

Using wireless

networks

| Please be aware of applications (such as Maps) that access the wireless network.    If you wish to use these applications, please accept the onscreen agreement.

Visible passwords| Password characters will be shown when you are typing. Only the last character will be visible, others will be masked.

Unknown sources| Allows installation of third-party applications.     Please read any agreement upon downloading.

Manage Applications| Manage and remove installed applications.     Please note that some applications may cause the system to freeze during installation or removal. This is due to a memory handling issue of the application and the device.     It is suggested to clear the cache before removing the

application. The “Clear Cache” option is located within each app on the ‘Manage applications’ page.

Running services| View and control applications that are currently running.

Add account| You may add your Gmail account and

synchronize the account in the Google server.    For Google server details please use m.google.com.

Privacy

Factory data reset| This erases all data to factory default.     Powering on the tablet will take longer after a reset. All applications installed and personal settings will be erased. Please acknowledge all warnings when resetting.

Storage

Available space Shows available space of Micro SD card/tablet.
Unmount SD card This option is used for safe removal of a Micro SD card.

Search

Google search settings Shows suggestions from Google as you type.
Searchable items Choose what to search on the device.
Clear search shortcuts Clear history of recently chosen search results.

Language & keyboard

Select locale Select language and region.
Android keyboard Onscreen keyboard settings.
User dictionary Add and remove words from user dictionary.    You can add

words by touching the

“Menu” icon.

Date & time

Automatic Automatically synchronize the date/time with your AP.
Set date Set date on device.

Using a Micro SD card

Note: Micro SD card is not included with the Tablet 8100 product. In order to safely remove the storage card from the device go to Settings Storage. Touch the relevant storage device for removal and then choose Unmount. The toolbar will display a MicroSD card safe to remove when this option is chosen. Please wait 3 seconds before removing the card. Once the MicroSD card is removed, the toolbar will display Removed MicroSD card. Re- inserting the MicroSD card will show Preparing MicroSD card on the toolbar status. Removing a MicroSD card without first unmounting will give the following message MicroSD card unexpectedly removed on the toolbar.

IMPORTANT
Any unexpected removal may cause the MicroSD card operation to fail. You will have to reboot the device in order for the MicroSD card slot to work again. Removing the MicroSD card without unmounting may damage the card.

Installing apps

Apps may be installed to the device in several ways.

Installing apps from Android app stores; Direct to Tablet

  • The Tablet 8100 comes preinstalled with the GetJar android market. This market contains a catalog of the many Android apps available.
  • To download an app, either choose by category or search for a specific app.
  • Tap on the app you are interested in and then choose the download option; the download bar will appear. Note; please ensure that the Tablet is receiving a strong and uninterrupted internet connection during the download.
  • When the download has been completed, you will then have the option to install (now) or to do so at a later date.
  • If you choose to install it, the app will install and appear on the applications page.
  • If you choose to install the app at a later time, you will find the downloaded file at the following location; OI File Manager > GetJar > cache.

Installing apps from a MicroSD card

  • If you locate an app that is not downloading via an Android Market, e.g. GetJar, SlideMe, Aproov, etc., then you may be able to download the app directly from your PC.

  • The file can then be saved to a MicroSD card. Please note; The file can be transferred using two different methods;

    • The Tablet can be connected via a Mini USB A to USB A cable (not provided) to a PC. The Mini USB connection connects to the USB OTG port as shown in Fig. 2.1.1.
      The MicroSD card will show up as a Removable device on your PC and the relevant files can be transferred to the card.

    • Alternatively, safely remove the MicroSD card from the tablet (see section 4; Using a MicroSD card) for more information. Connect the card to a PC. You may need a separate MicroSD to SD card adapter for this step. Save the file to the MicroSD card and return the card to the Tablet when finished.

  • When the file has been saved to the MicroSD card, you can locate and install the app with the following procedure;

    • Open the IO File Manager app.
    • Touch the ‘mnt’ icon and then touch the ‘sdcard1’ icon to view and access all the files on the card. Install the app (.APK file) by touching the app and then touch Install.

Transferring media files

(images, music, video, etc) to the disgo Tablet 8100

The Tablet 8100 will connect directly to your PC to allow file transfer. Please use the USB OTG port, which is located beside the HDMI port. When connected, the PC will recognize any MicroSD card or USB drive which is attached to the Tablet. Also, media files can be transferred directly onto the MicroSD card. See section 5.2 for more information on copying files and apps to the card.

The copied files will appear in the relevant app, i.e. music files will appear in the music app, movies will appear in the video player, etc. External files can also be viewed on the device by connecting an external storage device via the USB adapter cable. See section 7; Using external devices, for more information.

Using external devices

The USB Host port (see Fig. 2.1.1 and Fig. 2.1.3) can be used to connect an external keyboard if desired.
This port can also be used for connecting an external storage device, i.e. USB storage device.

Note:
When the USB device is connected via the USB adapter cable (provided), the media scanner software will provide the relevant Music, Gallery, and Video app with the relevant media files on the device. To access the device directly, please use the following procedure;

  • Open the IO File Manager app.
  • Touch the ‘mnt’ icon and then touch the ‘udisk2’ icon to view and access all the files on the card.

Using HDMI
Users may use HDMI output when playing videos. When the tablet is playing video through the default player, connect the HDMI cable as necessary. Press the Menu button on the top of the tablet to project the video onto the desired screen.

Troubleshooting

  • I cannot connect to the Internet using Manual Setup.
    Ans: Ensure you have used Saved your changes before exiting the advanced settings page.

  • I can see my access point, but I cannot connect to the Internet.
    Ans: Reboot the tablet and toggle off/on the Wi-Fi tick mark in Wi-Fi settings. Please also ‘Forget’ your network and try reconnecting.

  • My MicroSD card is not being detected and shows a damaged SD card.
    Ans: Please re-insert the MicroSD card and try again. If it fails, please power off the device and power on again with a MicroSD card already inserted. Please make sure you have removed the MicroSD card in the proper procedure as described in part 4. If possible, please test a different memory card in the device.

  • Apps will not download successfully to the Tablet
    Ans: Please note that not all apps will be compatible with Tablet 8100. If an app does not download, please try to download the app again ensuring that the device is fully charged and that there is a strong and uninterrupted wireless signal. If one app store is not working as expected, please try another. See our app download page on mydisgo.com for further information.

  • Device freezes when playing media files.
    Ans: This can occur due to a conflict between the Tablet and a storage device (memory card, USB flash drive, etc.). If the device does not respond after several minutes, remove the storage device. Ensure that the files are compatible with the device.

  • Device freezes on startup
    Ans: When the device powers off, remove the MicroSD card and any other external cables or devices. Ensure that the Tablet is well charged. Power the device back on.

Recycling
