Zero TouchTM NFC Cards

Garrett’s Zero Touch NFC (Near Field Communication) cards can be used to manipulate the Paragon metal detector for various reasons ranging from setup & diagnostics to customizing program settings & cloning. ere are two different NFC card “Types” that can be purchased with Paragon: Programmable and Non- Programmable. Each of these cards come with a different “Function” (or menu option) and value used with the Paragon NFC reader. A brief description of the settings that can be manipulated with each card are listed below the Function name.

The Garrett Programmable cards have a yellow Garrett logo on the front and the Non-Programmable cards have a grey logo on the front.

A Programmable card allows the Paragon to read the Function values from the card and store those values as its own. It also allows the Paragon to store (or write) its own values onto the card. is read/write capability lets administrators quickly manipulate Paragon’s settings without the need to enter an access code and search for menu options manually.
(Note: e operational instructions for programmable cards are the same for all part numbers.)
The Garrett Zero Touch Programmable NFC Card Kit (1630600) comes with 7 cards, each with 1 of 3 possible functions (Note: default values for each card match factory default values).

3x Presets Cards

  • Program
  • Base Sensitivity

Used to set different levels of security or to ensure the WT is set properly prior to an event based on predefined settings.

3x Setup Cards

  • Multi-Unit Role

Used to setup clusters of Paragons that have been rearranged and need to be resynchronized.

1x Clone Cards

  • Remove All Cards
  • Reset Password
  • Clone all settings except “Setup” settings

Used to duplicate settings for clusters of Paragons at multiple sites and locations.

A Non-Programable card allows the Paragon to read predefined Function values from the card and store those values as its own. ey can also bypass an access code for different security levels without the need to remember the actual code. Other Non-Programmable cards such as pre-programmed cards and diagnostic cards are available for purchase through Garrett.
(Note: the operational instructions for non-programmable cards are the same for all part numbers.)

The Garrett Zero Touch Non-Programmable NFC Card Kit (1630700) comes with the following:

Using a Garrett Zero TouchTM NFC card

Before using a Garrett Zero Touch NFC, the wireless NFC access must be enabled. Access the keypad menu using the security Admin Code (default 6-7-8-9-0) and use the Menu up arrow to find the “NFC:” Function. Using this function, the accessibility can be enabled/disabled with four settings.

  • NFC:
    • On ­ Allows the NFC wireless transmitter to always stay On while the Paragon is powered On and in operation.
    • On with Key ­ Allows for the NFC wireless transmitter to be On only when the keypad lock is enabled and Off when the keypad lock is disabled.
    • On with Password ­ Allows for the NFC wireless transmitter to be On only when the Admin Code is entered to access the keypad menus and Off when exiting menu or when Paragon is in On/OPERATE mode.
    • Off – Disables the NFC wireless transmitter at all times.

The Garrett Zero Touch NFC cards were designed with security in mind. Each card is designed to only work with the Garrett Paragon walk through metal detector. e card must be “Registered” with the Paragon detector prior to its initial use by accessing the keypad menu using the security Admin Code (default 6-7-8-9-0). Once the keypad menu has been accessed, tapping the NFC card to the NFC logo on the left side of the keypad will show three button options to press: 5 to Register ­ Register allows for the Function of the card to run automatically without entering any access code, additional settings notwithstanding. 6 to View ­ View allows the operator to view the Function and its value for which it was programmed without having to Register or Run it. 9 to Run ­ Run allows for the card to read the Function values from the card and store those values as its own without having to Register it.
ere are several Functions to help facilitate use of the Garrett Zero Touch NFC cards. However, the card must be Registered with the Paragon before these Functions can be utilized.

  • NFC Remove Card – To remove an NFC Card from the walkthrough, press + to carousel through the three Remove Card options. Tap Card Now allows for removal of a specific card by holding the card close to the NFC icon on the left side of the detection head. Next, ­ to Remove All will remove all cards stored in memory by pressing the – button. Pressing + a third time will show the Cards 01/X where X is the total number of cards stored. Each card has a unique serial number located on the lower right-hand side of the back of the card. e cards are listed by serial number and Function where pressing the – button will remove the specific card. Press the Up/Down button to exit the Function menu at any time.
  • NFC List Cards – Press + to view and cycle forward through the NFC cards that have been added to the walkthrough. Press ­ to cycle backwards through the added cards. Press the Up/Down button to exit the Function menu at any time.
  • NFC Update Cards – To write the values of a Function from the Paragon to a Programmable card, press + and tap the card to the NFC icon to update an NFC Card. en, follow the menu prompts on the display to update the settings available on your card. e values that were updated will be displayed after the update is complete.
  • NFC View Cards – To view the settings of an NFC Card, press + and hold the card up to the NFC icon on the left side of the detection head. e Function and values will be displayed. Press the Up/Down button to exit the Function menu at any time.
