Assembly
- Attaching the Battery Grip
- Ensure the camera power is turned off.
- Open the camera’s battery chamber door and insert the battery pack adapter.
- Open the camera’s connection plate cover and close the battery chamber door to expose the battery pack adapter’s contacts.
- Align the camera’s tripod socket with the BG-S4-C’s mounting screw and insert the connection plate cover into the recess.
- Rotate the thumbwheel counterclockwise until firmly tightened.
- Connect the shutter release cable from the battery grip to the camera body’s Multi Terminal port.
- Inserting the Batteries
- Twist the battery compartment’s door lock counterclockwise to open it.
- Release the battery tray by pressing the lock to the left and remove it.
- Slide the batteries into their respective slots on the battery tray ensuring proper alignment of contacts.
- Insert the battery tray back into the grip and close the compartment door.
- Removing the Batteries
- Open the battery compartment door and remove the battery tray.
- Remove the batteries by pushing them out of their respective slots.

Thank you for choosing Vello, and congratulations on your new BG-S4-C battery
grip purchase. Enjoy the many benefits that a battery grip offers, such as
extended shooting time and a comfortable hand position when shooting in a
vertical (portrait) orientation. The Vello BG-S4-C is compatible with the Sony
Alpha a6300 and a6400 mirrorless cameras, and it accepts up to two Sony NP-
FW50 rechargeable batteries. It offers an alternate shutter-release button
that works with the included Multi Terminal cable, and a USB Type-C® port for
charging the batteries while inserted in the grip.
Please read through this entire manual before using the BG-S4-C battery grip.
Precautions
- The BG-S4-C should be used only with compatible devices specified in this manual.
- Use only with the batteries and battery holders recommended in this manual.
- If you notice smoke, noise, or an unusual smell from the battery pack, discontinue use immediately. Remove the batteries, and take the device to a Vello authorized reseller.
- The battery level may not display properly if batteries are installed before mounting the grip.
- Remove batteries from the grip when not in use.

Attaching the Battery Grip
- Ensure that the camera power is turned off.
- Open the camera’s battery chamber door, and insert the battery pack adapter.
- Open the c ame r a’ s connection plate cover, and close the battery chamber door. This will leave the battery pack adapter’s contacts exposed.
- Align the camera’s tripod socket with the BG-S4-C’s mounting screw, and insert the camera’s connection plate cover into the recess.
- Rotate the thumbwheel counterclockwise until it’s firmly tightened.
- Connect the shutter release cable from the cable release socket on the battery grip to the Multi-Terminal port on the camera body.
Inserting the Batteries
- Twist the battery compartment’s door lock counterclockwise to open the compartment door.
- Press the battery tray lock to the left to release the battery tray and remove it.
- Align the contacts of the first battery with slot 1, and slide the battery in until it clicks. Slide the battery into slot 1 of the battery tray, matching the contacts, until it clicks. Repeat this step for the second battery.
- Insert the bat tery tray inside the battery grip until it clicks.
- Close the battery compartment door, and turn the lock to the closed position.
Note : When removing the grip, turn off the camera power and remove the batteries
Removing the Batteries
- Twist the battery compartment door lock counterclockwise to open the door, and remove the battery tray from the grip.
- Remove battery 1 by pushing it back out of the battery tray. Repeat for battery 2.
USB Battery Charging
You can charge the batteries while they’re inserted in the grip by using the USB Type-C port. Use your camera’s cable to plug it into a USB power source. The charging status LED is red when charging, and green when charging is complete.
Battery Status
When two batteries are installed in the BG-S4-C, your camera will automatically select the battery with less power remaining. The battery level will appear on your camera’s LCD with the battery level percentage for only the battery in use. When the battery is depleted, your camera will switch to the other battery in the grip.

To obtain warranty coverage, contact the Vello Customer Service Department to obtain a return merchandise authorization (“RMA”) number, and return the defective product to Vello along with the RMA number and proof of purchase. Shipment of the defective product is at the purchaser’s own risk and expense.
