ROBENS HUNTER TENT STOVE
To prevent damage and reduce the risk of fire we recommend that a Robens tent groundsheet is always rolled back so that the Hunter tent stove sits directly on the ground. If this is not possible we recommend a mat constructed from fireproof material, such as a fire blanket, is placed between the stove and groundsheet to prevent damage from embers and sparks falling from the firebox.
Always have a means of putting out a fire within reach and always make sure the fire is put out before you go to bed or leave the tent.

Assembly
Incorrect assembly of the product can be dangerous. Always make sure to follow the assembly instructions carefully and check that all screws and joints are firm and stable before using the product.
- Remove the stovepipe sections (2) from their storage position inside the stove firebox (1). Turn the tent stove upside down and unfold the two supporting legs. Lock the supporting legs with the two leg locks. Place the stove in the upright position on its legs inside the tent (Do not place directly onto the groundsheet).
- Connect up to eight stovepipe sections (2) to create the stovepipe. Firmly push the sections together to ensure a tight join. This is especially important when using the stove inside a tent. Feed the top of the stovepipe through the flue protector (3) and place the spark arrestor (4) onto the top of the stovepipe. The spark arrestor is connected to the flue protector by hooking the chain with hooks (6) to the eyelets on the flue protector (3) and the holes on the spark arrestor (4) .
- Insert the assembled stovepipe through the stovepipe port located at the top of the flysheet of your Robens tent.
- WARNING – tent fabric must sit between the two protective sleeve markings on the pipe flue protection. DO NOT ALLOW TO TOUCH FLUE. If necessary, adjust the height of the flue protector (3) by adjusting the length of the chains with hooks (6).
- Tightly push the stovepipe onto the outlet of the Hunter tent stove body (1).
- Attach a drying rack on each side of the stove. Finally insert the ash pan inside the bottom of the stove firebox.
First use
Before you use the Robens tent stove the first time, the stove must be “burnt
off” approximately 4-12 hours depending on temperature outside and size of
flames inside the stove. The first time in use a lot of smoke will appear from
the stove surfaces. It is very important to “burn off” the stove until there
is no more smoke leaving the surfaces. When no smoke appears during use, the
tent stove is ready to use inside your tent.
Use dry timber to prevent the generation of excess smoke and to minimize the
heat lost drying out wet fuel.
Use
Before ignition, the air intake vent located on the lower part of the door
must be fully opened to allow for maximum combustion. After ignition, the vent
can be adjusted for combustion control and wood consumption.
Start the fire using easily combustible materials such as old newspaper, dry
twigs, woodshavings or wax-coated fire starters, together with thin kindling
then progressively add larger pieces of timber as the fire becomes stronger.
Only use dry wood, and follow the instruction above for starting the fire, to
allow clean combustion, and avoid excessive smoke and sooth on the glass
windows.
After approx. 30 minutes (this time can be reduced with practice) you are
ready to cook.
Cooking food & boiling water
To boil water or to achieve maximum heat it is best to remove the top plate
and thereby exposing the bottom of the pan/pot directly to the flames. Do only
use pots and pans with a diameter on maximum or smaller size than the surface
of tent stove, and in materials that can handle direct heat.
Once boiled, you can slide the pan/pot to the back of the cooking surface or
on to the side racks (5) to stay warm while you place another pan/pot directly
over the flames on the front of the stove.
Open or close the air intake in the door for combustion control. When the
second pan is up to temperature put the top plate cover back into place and
allow both pans to simmer on the stove.
We recommend the door is always closed to stop any timber falling out.
We recommend using a stick or poker to operate the door and lifting the top
plate cover on and off as these get very hot during use.
Maintenance
Dismantle and clean only once the stove is cold and taken outside the tent. We
recommend you clean the stove carefully after every use (including the inside
of the flue). When possible, wipe over with an oily rag to prolong life and
resistance to corrosion.
Do not use abrasive cleaners to clean the tent stove.
Wipe surfaces clean with mild dishwashing detergent.
Rinse stove body and parts clean with water and allow to dry thoroughly before
storing or re-use.
Dip a damp cloth in cold wood ashes and gently scrub the glass to remove soot
and residue.
For stubborn stains, create a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar,
apply it to the glass, let it sit briefly, and then wipe clean with a soft
cloth.
Store dry and moisture free.
Cautions and Warnings
Read these warnings before use:
Introducing a fuel-burning device into any tent is hazardous and requires care and attention. We also strongly advise that the following precautions be followed:
- The minimum length of the stovepipe should match the height of the apex of the tent and the tent fabric around the stovepipe port/outlet should be protected from the hot flue by the flue protector. Additional Robens stainless steel stovepipe sections (370 mm) can be purchased to increase the length for taller tipis.
- Do not place the stove on the groundsheet – this should be folded back before positioning the stove directly under the tent’s stovepipe outlet to aid stability and the efficient removal of fumes. The stove should be installed on level, firm ground to ensure stability when used.
- Do not use a stove unless inner tents are removed.
- When operating always use gloves to protect yourself, as the tent stove gets extremely hot.
- Avoid sparks or falling embers when the fire door is open.
- Always keep the tent well ventilated to replenish the air used by the stove during combustion and remove water vapour.
- Due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning a lit stove should only be used in a well-ventilated area.
- Never leave a fire unattended and keep a bucket with water to hand in case of emergency. If using additional firefighting equipment, like fire extinguisher and fire blanket, ensure they are suitable, are within the operational dates and that you know how to use them correctly. Operate to all campsite rules and be aware of any ‘In case of fire’ instructions in force.
- Do not use any other form of open fire or barbecue inside a tent for heating, lighting or cooking for these lead to an increased risk from fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. The use of fire in or around any tent is extremely dangerous and is carried out at your own risk. In no event shall we be liable for any damages, including consequential damages to property, health or life whatsoever arising out of or connected with the use or misuse of fire in or around this product.
- Never use the product in heavy storm.
- Never move any parts of the product during use as it will get very hot.
- Do not wear flammable or loose clothing when operating the product.
- Do not use alcohol or petrol for ignition or re-ignition or store gas, petrol or other flammable vapors or liquids in the vicinity of the product when in use.
- Never use the following on the product: charcoal, briquettes, driftwood, waste, leaves, paper, cardboard, plywood, painted / stained / pressure treated wood.
- Avoid softwoods such as pine or cedar, which can cast embers.
- Keep children and animals in proper distance from the product. Fire should not be operated by children.
- Immediately stop using the product if you notice any mayor damage or defects, such as cracks or damages on the glass, stove body or stovepipe sections.
