Bullard TacPole Thermal Imagers
TacPole Extendable Accessory
The Bullard TacPole, designed for use with Bullard TacSight, T3 and T4 thermal imagers, is an extendable pole allowing for enhanced visual scene assessment into otherwise inaccessible or dangerous areas. The TacPole can easily see into attics, above suspended ceilings, around corners and down into basements or other subterranean areas. The TacPole comes equipped with a quick release mounting bracket and viewing display. TacPole can be equipped with an optional transmitter as well.
NOTE:
To ensure that we are able to reach you with any product or software updates, please fill out the warranty card enclosed with your Bullard TacSight, T3 and T4 Series Thermal Imagers.
Read all instructions and warnings before using this product.
Contact with energized electrical lines may create a risk of electrical shock
to the user. Keep the product away from energized electrical lines and when
holding the TacPole, use the non-conducting safety grips provided.
Your TacPole is like any other tool. It must be used properly and safely. All
users should be trained on the proper and safe use of thermal imaging prior to
using the TacPole. This is especially important for users who may use the
TacSight, T3 and T4 Series Thermal Imagers in hazardous or IDLH (immediately
dangerous to life and health) environments.
Failure to follow this information could result in death or serious injury.
Attaching the viewing display to the TacPole
The viewing display screen may be attached to the TacPole by plugging the
power cable into the bottom of the pole and pressing the display onto the flat
mounting plate on the pole. An audible click indicates the display is locked
into position.
To disconnect the viewing display screen from the pole, pull down on the quick
release slide lever located on the bottom of the display and rotate up away
from the mounting plate (Figure1).
Attaching the TacPole to the Bullard TacSight, T3 and T4 Series thermal imaging cameras
- Remove the quick-release mounting bracket from the top of the pole by turning the release tab to the open/unlock position.
- With the release tab still in the open/unlock position, attach the bracket to the bottom of the thermal imaging camera. Orient the bracket so that the front pin faces the camera battery, then screw the bracket hand-tight into the threaded fixture on the bottom of the camera.
- The electrical contact pins on theTacPole should align with the corresponding contacts on the bottom of the camera, and the mounting bracket aligns with the release tab on the TacPole.
- An audible click indicates the camera is locked onto the pole
To disconnect the camera from the pole, simply push the release tab to the
open position and lift the camera up. The mounting bracket may be detached
from the bottom of the camera and placed back on the pole for storage
(Figure2).
NOTE:
The electrical contacts on the thermal imager that connect with the TacPole may require periodic cleaning. To clean these contacts, use soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth or a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol. Rubbing a pencil eraser on the contacts is another effective, non-abrasive means to clean the contacts.
Operating the TacPole
The TacPole is powered via the thermal imager’s 10-Volt NiMH rechargeable
battery, while the camera is powered on. After attaching the viewing display
screen and the thermal imager to the TacPole; power on the camera and the
viewing display by pressing the single gray button on each. The two twist lock
grips on the pole allow for an overall extendable length of 5’9″, which may
permit optimal viewing of overhead scenes, as well as other difficult to view
objects. The viewing display maneuvers on the TacPole by using the tension
adjustment knob to slide the screen vertically and swivel from left to right
(Figure 2).
The TacPole may also be
equipped with an optional wireless remote video transmitter. When TacPole is
configured with the optional transmitter, a single channel wireless remote
transmitter is installed in the display screen. The single transmitter
operates via one setting knob (on, off) and is also powered by the thermal
imager’s 10- Volt NiMH rechargeable battery. The “on” setting of the
transmitter directly corresponds to the “A” channel frequency of the Bullard
Mobile Link, Mobile Command Center receivers and Bullard receiver boxes. The
transmitter sends a video signal to the related receiver frequency. This
allows incident commanders or other team members to monitor the same scenes
that are being viewed by the thermal imager and the TacPole.
FCC Notice

Care Instructions
The Bullard TacPole requires little maintenance. For best results, after each use:
- Clean the outside of the unit with mild soap or detergent.
- Clean the display with a soft cloth.
- Check screw tightness on cover display
- All thermal imagers and accessories should be maintained using a proper program.
Replacing the Video Display Cover Window
The display cover (Figure 4) has a scratch resistant hard coating to minimize
marring. However, if heavy scratching or gouging does occur, the cover window
can be replaced. To do this, simply remove the four screws along the top and
bottom of the window. Remove the plastic display cover window and replace with
a new one (part number T3WINDOW) making sure that the countersink slots around
the mounting holes are facing outward. Do not overtighten.
CAUTION
Do not use solvents or paint thinners to clean your Bullard TacPole as they
could permanently mar the surface or degrade the protective properties of
the casing. Do not intentionally submerge the unit underwater or subject the
unit to high pressure water. Follow care instructions described above. Failure
to observe these instructions may result in product damage. Any damage caused
by improper care is not covered under warranty.
Do not attempt to disassemble the Bullard TacPole. If the unit is not
functioning promptly return it to Bullard for evaluation. Disassembling the
unit voids all warranties.
TacPole is non certified as intrinsically safe. Do not attempt to remove the
rear boot. These parts provide sealing and removal will break the seal
exposing the unit to potential water damage. Failure to follow these
instructions could result in death, serious injury and/or product damage.
Thermal imaging is not a technology designed to replace current fire fighting
or law enforcement tactics. Rather, it is a tool that allows the firefighter
or law enforcement officer to be more effective and to make better decisions.
Firefighters and law enforcement officers cannot stop using basic safety
tactics. All firefighters and law enforcement officers should receive proper
training on: how thermal imagers work; the uses and limitations of thermal
imagers; image interpretation; and the safety considerations for thermal
imaging use.
