Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Ubiquiti Networks® U Fiber loco. This Quick Start
Guide is designed to guide you through the installation and also includes the
warranty terms.
Package Contents
- Included only in the single-pack of the UF-LOCO.
System Requirements
- Linux, Mac OS X, or Microsoft Windows 7/8/10
- Web Browser: Google Chrome (Other browsers may have limited functionality)
TERMS OF USE: All Ethernet cabling runs must use CAT5 (or above). It is the professional installer’s responsibility to follow local country regulations, including operation within legal frequency channels, output power, and indoor cabling requirements.
Hardware Overview
Reset Button
The Reset button serves two functions for the UF-LOCO:
- Restart Press and release the Reset button quickly. The three signal LEDs will flash amber.
- Restore to Factory Default Settings Press and hold the Reset button for more than five seconds. The three signal LEDs will light amber in this sequence with a 100-ms delay between patterns:

Hardware Installation
The UF-LOCO can be mounted on a wall or placed on a desktop.
WARNING : To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the UF-LOCO to rain or moisture.
Wall Mounting

Use the Wall Mount Bracket as a template and drill four 6 mm holes as shown below.

Insert a Screw Anchor into each hole, and then fasten the Wall Mount Bracket using four Screws.

Mount the UF-LOCO by inserting the top of the UF-LOCO into the Mount Bracket and then pivot the bottom into the bracket until it locks into place.
Connecting Fiber
Connect the fiber optic cable from the Passive Optical Network to the PON
port.
Connecting LAN
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port.
- If you are using PoE, go to Connecting Power.
If you are using the Micro-USB Power Adapter, connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your LAN.
Connecting Power
- Connect the power using one of the following options:
- Using the Micro-USB Power Adapter: Go to Connecting to the Micro-USB Power Adapter.
- Using an airCube™ (not included): Go to Connecting to the airCube.
- Note: The airCube provides Wi-Fi connectivity with PoE passthrough, so it is the ideal complement to the UF-LOCO for CPE installations.
- Using a PoE switch (not included): Connect the Ethernet cable from the UF-LOCO to a PoE-enabled Ethernet port on the switch.
- WARNING: The PoE switch must comply with the power specifications listed in the Specifications section of this Quick Start Guide.
Connecting to the Micro-USB Power Adapter
- Connect the Micro-USB Power Adapter to the power port.
- Plug the Micro-USB Power Adapter into a power outlet.
Connecting to the airCube
- Connect the Ethernet cable from the UF-LOCO to the WAN 24V PoE OUT port on the back of the airCube (not included).
- To power the airCube, follow the instructions in its Quick Start Guide.
Accessing the Configuration Interface
- Ensure that your computer (or other host system) is connected to the UF-LOCO.
- Configure the Ethernet adapter on your host system with a static IP address on the 192.168.1.x subnet.
- Launch your web browser. Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address field. Press enter (PC) or return (Mac).
- The login screen will appear. Enter ubnt in the Username and Password fields. Click Login.
The U Fiber Configuration Interface will appear. Customize settings as needed.

OLT Compatibility Profiles
- The UF-LOCO is compatible with most major brands of OLT (Optical Line Terminal) and offers four compatibility profiles.
- By default the UF-LOCO is set to Profile 1 – Ubiquiti Networks U Fiber OLT. For other brands, manually select Profile 2, 3, or 4.

Log into the U Fiber Configuration Interface.

The Dashboard screen will appear. Click the Settings tab.

On the Network screen, click the System tab.

Select the appropriate profile from the OLT Profile drop-down menu:

Click Save Changes.
The UF-LOCO will automatically restart with the new profile.

Safety Notices

- WARNING: Avoid using this product during an electrical storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
- WARNING: CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT – Do not look into the ends of the fiber optic cable or SFP modules while converters are powered.
Electrical Safety Information
- Compliance is required with respect to voltage, frequency, and current requirements indicated on the manufacturer’s label. Connection to a different power source than those specified may result in improper operation, damage to the equipment or pose a fire hazard if the limitations are not followed.
- There are no operator serviceable parts inside this equipment. Service should be provided only by a qualified service technician.
Limited Warranty
UBIQUITI NETWORKS, Inc (“UBIQUITI NETWORKS”) warrants that the product(s) furnished hereunder (the “Product(s)”) shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment by UBIQUITI NETWORKS under normal use and operation. UBIQUITI NETWORKS’ sole and exclusive obligation and liability under the foregoing warranty shall be for UBIQUITI NETWORKS, at its discretion, to repair or replace any Product that fails to conform to the above warranty during the above warranty period. The expense of removal and reinstallation of any Product is not included in this warranty. The warranty period of any repaired or replaced Product shall not extend beyond its original term.
Warranty Conditions
The above warranty does not apply if the Product:
- has been modified and/or altered, or an addition made thereto, except by Ubiquiti Networks, or Ubiquiti Networks’ authorized representatives, or as approved by Ubiquiti Networks in writing;
- has been painted, rebranded or physically modified in any way;
- has been damaged due to errors or defects in cabling;
- has been subjected to misuse, abuse, negligence, abnormal physical, electromagnetic or electrical stress, including lightning strikes, or accident;
- has been damaged or impaired as a result of using third party firmware;
- has no original Ubiquiti MAC label, or is missing any other original Ubiquiti label(s); or
- has not been received by Ubiquiti within 30 days of issuance of the RMA.
In addition, the above warranty shall apply only if: the product has been properly installed and used at all times in accordance, and in all material respects, with the applicable Product documentation; all Ethernet cabling runs use CAT5 (or above), and for outdoor installations, shielded Ethernet cabling is used, and for indoor installations, indoor cabling requirements are followed.
Returns
No Products will be accepted for replacement or repair without obtaining a
Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number from UBIQUITI NETWORKS during the
warranty period, and the Products being received at UBIQUITI NETWORKS’
facility freight prepaid in accordance with the RMA process of UBIQUITI
NETWORKS. Products returned without an RMA number will not be processed and
will be returned freight collect or subject to disposal. Information on the
RMA process and obtaining an RMA number can be found at:
