Hearing safety
Caution
· To avoid hearing damage, limit the time you use the
headphones at high volume and set the volume to a safe level. The louder the volume, the shorter is the safe listening time.

· Be careful not to adjust the volume as your hearing adapts.

2 Your CD Soundmachine
Introduction
With this CD Soundmachine, you can: · listen to FM radio; · enjoy audio from CD, tapes, USB device,
Bluetooth device, and other external audio devices; · program the play sequence of tracks. The unit offers you Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB) and Digital Sound Control (DSC) to enrich sound.

Overview of the main unit

FM antenna Improve FM reception.
Headphone jack. AUDIO-IN
Connect an external audio device.
Turn the unit on or off. Tape controls
Start tape play.
Fast rewind or fast forward the tape.
Stop tape play or open the tape door.
Pause tape play.
Stop play. Erase a program.

TUNING +/Skip to the previous or next track. Tune to FM radio stations. Search within a track.
ALBUM/PRESET -/+ Select a preset radio station. Skip to the previous or next album.
MODE Select a play mode: repeat or shuffle.
PROG Program tracks.
SOURCE Select a source.
USB socket.
DSC Select a preset sound setting.
DBB/PAIRING Turn Dynamic Bass Boost on or off. In Bluetooth mode, press and hold to enter pairing mode.
VOL +/Adjust volume.

Overview of the remote control

Turn the unit on or off. USB · Press repeatedly to select the USB. CD/TAPE
Select the DISC source. Select the tape source.
Skip to the previous/next track. Search within a track/disc/USB. Tune to a radio station.
Adjust the display brightness.
ALBUM/PRESET Select a preset radio station. Skip to the previous/next album.
SLEEP Set sleep timer.
DSC Select a preset sound setting.
DBB Turn dynamic bass enhancement on/off.
PROG Program tracks. Program FM radio stations.
SHUFFLE Select shuffle play mode.
REPEAT Select repeat play mode.
+/Adjust volume.
Mute or restore volume.
Stop play or erase a program.

/PAIRING Start, pause, or resume play. Press and hold for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode. TUNER/AUDIO IN Select the FM source or AUDIO IN source. BT Press to select the BT (Bluetooth) source.

3 Get started
Caution
· Use of controls or adjustments or performance of
procedures other than herein may result in hazardous laser exposure or other unsafe operation.
Always follow the instructions in this chapter in sequence. If you contact Philips, you will be asked for the model and serial number of your apparatus. The model number and serial number are on the bottom of your apparatus. Write the numbers here: Model No. __ Serial No.


Option 1: AC power
Warning
· Risk of product damage! Make sure that the power
supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back or the underside of the unit.
· Risk of electric shock! When you disconnect the AC
power, always pull the plug from the socket. Never pull the cord.
Connect the AC power cord to: · the AC~ MAINS socket on the unit. · the wall socket.
Tip
· To save energy, turn the unit off after use.

Prepare the remote control
Caution
· Risk of product damage! When the remote control is
not used for long periods, remove the batteries.

To insert the remote control battery: 1 Open the battery compartment. 2 Insert the supplied AAA battery with
correct polarity (+/-) as indicated. 3 Close the battery compartment.
Connect power
The unit can be powered by either AC power or batteries.

Option 2: Battery power Caution
· Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should
be disposed of properly.
Note
· Batteries are not supplied with the unit.
1 Open the battery compartment. 2 Insert 6 batteries (type: R-20 or D CELL)
with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated. 3 Close the battery compartment.

Turn on
Press .
The unit switches to the last selected source. Tip · To select a source, press SOURCE repeatedly or the
source selection buttons on the remote control.
Turn off
Press again.
The backlight on the display panel turns off.

4 Play

Play CD
1 Press CD to select the disc source. 2 Press OPEN·CLOSE to open the disc tray. 3 Insert a disc with the printed side facing
up, then close the disc tray.
Play starts automatically.
Play from USB devices
Note
· Make sure that the USB device contains playable audio
content.
1 Press USB to select USB source. 2 Insert the USB device into the socket.
Play starts automatically. If not, press . Note · The maximum current for USB is 0.5A.

Play from Bluetooth-enabled devices
With this product, you can listen to audio from Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Note
· Before pairing a device with this product, read its user
manual for Bluetooth compatibility. Make sure that the connected Bluetooth device supports the Advanced Audio Distribution Prole (A2DP) and the Audio Video Remote Control Prole (AVRCP).
· Make sure that Bluetooth function is enabled on your
device, and your device is set as visible to all other Bluetooth devices.
· The operational range between this product and a
Bluetooth device is approximately 10 meters (33feet).
· Any obstacle between this product and a Bluetooth
device can reduce the operational range.
· Keep away from any other electronic device that may
cause interference.
1 Press BT to select Bluetooth source.

The CD sound machine enters pairing mode, and PAIRING is displayed on the screen.

2 On your Bluetooth device, enable Bluetooth and search for Bluetooth devices (refer to the user manual of the device).
3 Select [Philips AZ797T] on your device for pairing. If necessary, enter default password “0000”.
After successful pairing and connection, you will hear a pairing sound, and [CONNECTED] (connected) is displayed on the screen.

4 After successful Bluetooth connection, play audio on the Bluetooth device.

· If you cannot nd [Philips AZ797T] on your device,
press PAIRING on the main unit or on remote control for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode, [PAIRING] (Pairing) is display on the screen.
Disconnect the Bluetooth-enabled device · Press and hold PAIRING for 2 seconds; · Disable Bluetooth on your device; or · Move the device beyond the
communication range.
Connect another Bluetooth-enabled device
Disable Bluetooth on the current device, and then connect another device.
Clear Bluetooth pairing history
Press and hold for 7 seconds to clear the Bluetooth pairing history.
Play tape
Note
· The CD sound machine will turn off automatically
after an elapsed time of inactivity at tape mode.
1 Press CD/TAPE repeatedly to select TAPE source.
2 Press / on the CD sound machine to open the tape door.
3 Load the tape with the open side upward and the full spool to the right.
4 Press on the CD sound machine to start play. · To pause/resume play, press on main unit .

· To rewind or fast-forward, press / on CD sound machine.
· To stop play, press / .
The CD sound machine turns off automatically.
Note
· In playback mode, cassette will be stopped
automatically when playback reaches the end.
· There is no display on the LCD screen in tape mode.
Play from an external device
You can also listen to an external audio device such as an MP3 player through this product. 1 Press TUNER/AUDIO IN repeatedly to
select [AUDIO-IN] source. 2 Connect an audio cable (0.138 inch, not
supplied) to: · the AUDIO-IN socket on the unit. · the headphone socket on an external
device. 3 Play the external device (see the device’s
user manual).

5 Play options

Control play

In CD or USB mode, you can control play through the following operations.

/ REPEAT

Skip to the previous or next track. Press and hold to fast-forward or fast- reverse the track during playback, then release to resume play.

Skip to the previous or next MP3 album.

Start or pause play.

Stop play.

[ ]: Play the current track

repeatedly.

[

]: Play all tracks repeatedly.

To return to normal play, press

REPEAT repeatedly until the repeat icon disappears.

SHUFFLE [ ]: Play tracks randomly. To return to normal play, press
SHUFFLE repeatedly until the shuffle icon disappears.

Tip

· Only [ ] and [

] can be selected when you

play the programmed tracks.

Program tracks
In CD or USB mode, you can program a maximum of 20 tracks.

1 Press to stop playback.

2 Press PROG to activate the program mode.
[PROG] (program) begins to blink.

3 For MP3 tracks, press ALBUM/ PRESET +/- to select an album.

4 Press

to select a track number,

then press PROG to conrm.

5 Repeat steps 3-4 to program more tracks.

6 Press to play the programmed tracks.
During play,PROG is displayed.
· To erase the program, press twice. · To review the program, when
playback is stopped, press and hold PROG for 2 seconds.

Adjust sound

During play, you can adjust volume and select the sound effects.

6 Listen to FM radio

Tune to FM radio stations
Note
· For optimal reception, fully extend and adjust the
position of the FM antenna.

1 Press TUNER/AUDIO IN repeatedly to select FM radio source.

2 Press and hold

for 2 seconds.

[SEARCH] (search) is displayed.

The product tunes to a station with

strong reception automatically.

3 Repeat step 2 to tune to more stations.

Store radio stations automatically
Note
· You can program a maximum of 30 FM radio stations.
In tuner mode, press and hold PROG for 2 seconds.
[AUTO STORE](auto store) is displayed.
The unit stores all the available radio stations.
The rst stored radio station is broadcast automatically.

Store radio stations manually
Note
· You can program a maximum of 30 FM radio stations.

1 Tune to an FM radio station.

2 Press PROG to activate the storing mode.

3 Press

to allocate a number (1 to 30)

to this radio station, then press PROG to

conrm.
The preset number and the frequency

of the preset station are displayed.

4 Repeat the above steps to store other stations.

· To remove a pre-stored FM radio station, store another
station in its place.

7 Other features
Set the sleep timer
This unit can switch to standby automatically after a preset period. When the unit is turned on, press SLEEP repeatedly to select the sleep timer period (in minutes).
When the sleep timer is activated, appears. To deactivate sleep timer: · Press SLEEP repeatedly until [SLEEP OFF] (sleep off) is displayed. When the sleep timer is deactivated, disappears.
Adjust the display brightness
Press repeatedly to adjust the display brightness.
Listen through the headphone
Plug a headphone into the jack on the unit.

Maintenance
Clean the cabinet · Use a soft cloth slightly moistened with
a mild detergent solution. Do not use a solution containing alcohol, spirits, ammonia or abrasives. Clean discs · When a disc becomes dirty, clean it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc from the centre out.
· Do not use solvents such as benzene, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or antistatic spray intended for analogue records.
Clean the disc lens · After prolonged use, dirt or dust may
accumulate at the disc lens. To ensure good play quality, clean the disc lens with Philips CD lens cleaner or any commercially available cleaner. Follow the instructions supplied with cleaner. Clean the heads and the tape paths · To ensure good recording and play quality, clean the heads A, the capstan(S) B, and pressure roller(s) C after every 50 hours of tape operation. · Use a cotton swab slightly moistened with cleaning uid or alcohol.
· You can also clean the heads by playing a cleaning tape once.

Demagnetise the heads · Use a demagnetising tape available at your
dealer.

9 Troubleshooting
Warning
· Never remove the casing of this device.
To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself. If you encounter problems when using this device, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the Philips Web page (www.philips.com/support). When you contact Philips, make sure that the device is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.
No power
· Ensure that the AC power plug of the unit is connected properly.
· Ensure that there is power at the AC outlet.
· Insert the batteries with their polarities (+/- signs) aligned as indicated.
· Replace the battery.
No sound or poor sound · Adjust the volume.
No response from the unit · Disconnect and reconnect the AC power
plug, then turn on the system again. · As a power-saving feature, the unit
switches off automatically 15 minutes after track play reaches the end and no control is operated.
Remote control does not work
· Before you press any function button, rst select the correct source with the remote control instead of the main unit.
· Reduce the distance between the remote control and the unit.
· Insert the battery with its polarities (+/­ signs) aligned as indicated.
· Replace the battery. · Aim the remote control directly at the
sensor on the front of the unit.

USB device not supported
· The USB device is incompatible with the apparatus. Try another one.
No disc detected · Insert a disc. · Check if the disc is inserted upside down. · Wait until the moisture condensation at
the lens has cleared. · Replace or clean the disc. · Use a nalized CD or correct format disc. Poor radio reception
· Increase the distance between the unit and your TV or VCR.
· Fully extend the FM antenna.
Music playback is unavailable on this unit even after successful Bluetooth connection. · The device cannot be used to play music
through this unit wirelessly.
The audio quality is poor after connection with a Bluetooth-enabled device. · The Bluetooth reception is poor. Move
the device closer to this unit or remove any obstacle between them.
Bluetooth cannot be connected with this unit.
· The device does not support the proles required for this unit.
· The Bluetooth function of the device is not enabled. Refer to the user manual of the device to nd out how to enable the function.
· This unit is not in pairing mode. · This unit is already connected with
another Bluetooth-enabled device. Disconnect that device and then try again.
The paired mobile device connects and disconnects constantly.
· The Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the device closer to this unit or remove any obstacle between them.

· Some mobile phones may connect and disconnect constantly when you make or end calls. This does not indicate any malfunction of this unit.
· For some devices, the Bluetooth connection may be deactivated automatically as a power-saving feature. This does not indicate any malfunction of this unit.
