Pie Tips from Grandma’s Kitchen
Grandma always said the key to perfect pie crust is cold ingredients and Grandma is always right. Here are some tips from our house to yours.
-
Cool all ingredients and mixing bowls in the fridge.
-
Place cooled ingredients in a bowl.
-
With your pastry cutter, begin to blend the butter into the dry ingredients.
-
Using a rocking motion, work your way around the bowl to equally blend the ingredients.
-
If there is build-up on the pastry cutter, use a butter knife to scrape the ingredients back into the bowl.
-
When the butter pieces are about the size of a pea, you have successfully cut in your butter.
-
Blend in icy-cold water to bring everything together.
-
Form the dough it the pie tray.
-
Choose your filling. Grandma’s favorite is apple pie.
-
Bake and enjoy!
