Installation Instructions

Preparation

  1. For 1985-89 models, check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage with a voltmeter and record it. Note that 1990 and later models do not require TPS adjustment.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Removal of Stock Throttle Body

  1. Remove the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) from the stock throttle body and transfer it to the new BBK Throttle Body. Tighten it using the supplied hardware. Discard the foam seal from the stock throttle body as the BBK shafts are sealed by O-rings.
  2. Remove the throttle body inlet hose and disconnect the two water lines from the underside of the factory throttle body.
  3. Disconnect all vacuum hoses, electrical connections, throttle, and cruise control cables from the factory throttle body.
  4. Remove the 4 mounting bolts from the throttle body and carefully remove them from the vehicle, ensuring no other connections are hindering the removal.

Installation of BBK Throttle Body

  1. Install the BBK Throttle Body to the intake manifold using the supplied gasket and hardware.
  2. Remove the seven torque head screws from the water crossover manifold on the bottom of the stock throttle body and transfer it to the BBK Throttle Body. Use the supplied gasket, black socket head screws, and lock washers.
  3. Note: Do not reuse the stock torque head screws, as it may result in throttle body damage. Only use the supplied screws.

Idle Adjustment
Note: The idle adjustment is made on the socket head cap screw accessible from the backside of the throttle body on the driver’s side. You may need to adjust the cruise control cable to prevent a high idle.

TPS Adjustment

  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Check the TPS voltage with a digital voltmeter and adjust it to match the reading obtained from the stock throttle body if necessary.
  3. Refill the coolant to compensate for any lost coolant during the installation process.
  4. Start the engine.

SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED
Digital Voltmeter

INSTALL TIME

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY TO ENSURE CORRECT FITMENT AND OPERATION

STEP 1
For 1985-89, check the Throttle Position Sensor voltage with a voltmeter and record it. 1990 and later models do not require TPS adjustment. Then disconnect the negative battery terminal.

STEP 2
Remove the throttle body inlet hose and disconnect the two water lines from the underside of the factory throttle body. Disconnect all of the vacuum hoses, electrical connections, throttle, and cruise control cables from the factory throttle body.

STEP 3
Remove the 4 mounting bolts from the throttle body and remove them from the vehicle slowly to ensure that no other connections are hindering the removal.

STEP 4
Remove the seven torque head screws from the water crossover manifold on the bottom of the stock throttle body and transfer it over to the BBK Throttle Body. Use the supplied gasket and the 7 supplied black socket head screws and lock washers. NOTE! Do not re-use the stock torque head screws, you must use the supplied screws or the throttle body or throttle body damage will result.

STEP 5
Remove the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) from the stock throttle body transfer it over to the new BBK Throttle Body and tighten it with the supplied hardware. Discard the foam seal from the stock throttle body (The BBK Shafts are sealed by O-rings). Install the BBK Throttle Body to the intake manifold using the supplied gasket and hardware.

STEP 6
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Check the TPS voltage with a digital voltmeter and adjust to the reading you got from the stock throttle body if necessary. Refill the coolant to allow for any lost coolant and start the engine. NOTE! The idle adjustment is made on the socket head cap screw accessible from the backside of the throttle body on the driver’s side. You may need to adjust the cruise control cable to prevent a high idle.

TPS Mounting holes may need to be slotted to achieve proper voltage at idle (See dotted lines)
