Explanation of the symbols used

Danger!
For safety reasons, the tile-cutting machine is not to be used by children, young people under 16 years of age, or any other persons who are not acquainted with these operating instructions.

  • Portable tile-cutting machine for medium-sized tiles.
  • Cutting with the diamond cutting wheel.
  • Making jolly cuts with the tiltable work surface (max. 45 degrees).
  • Wheel cooling with water.
  • Stop rail and angle stop.
  • Trough as cooling water container (to fill the trough you must remove the water container cover).
  • If the cutting wheel becomes jammed, switch off the equipment and disconnect it from the power supply; only then are you to remove the workpiece

Intended use

The tile-cutting machine is designed for the standard cutting of small and medium-size tiles (glazed tiles, ceramic tiles or similar) which can be accommodated by the size of the machine. It should never be used for cutting wood or metal. The machine should be used exclusively for its intended purpose. Any other use is deemed to be a case of misuse. The user/operator and not the manufacturer will be held liable for damage and/or injuries of any kind that result from such misuse. The machine is to be operated only with suitable cutting-off wheels. Saw blades should never be used. Compliance with the safety instructions, the assembly instructions, and advice and instructions on operation contained in the operating instructions also fall under the terms of intended use. All persons who use and service the equipment have to be acquainted with this manual and must be informed about the machine’s potential hazards. In addition, strict compliance with the accident prevention regulations in force in your area, as well as all other general rules of health and safety at work, is imperative. The manufacturer’s liability shall be deemed void if the machine is modified in any way and the manufacturer shall therefore accept no liability for any damages arising as a result of modifications. Even when the equipment is used as prescribed it is still impossible to eliminate certain residual risk factors. The following hazards may arise in connection with the machine’s construction and design:

  • Contact with the diamond cutting wheel where it is not covered.
  • Contact with the diamond cutting wheel while it is turning.
  • Defective diamond tips fly off the cutting wheel.
  • Kick-back of workpieces and parts of workpieces due to improper handling.
  • Damage to hearing if ear-muffs are not used as necessary.

Please note that our equipment has not been designed for use in commercial, trade or industrial applications. Our warranty will be voided if the machine is used in commercial, trade or industrial businesses or for equivalent purposes.

Before starting the equipment

Warning!
Always remove the battery pack before making adjustments to the equipment.

  • The machine has to be set up where it can stand firmly, e.g. on a workbench, or it must be bolted to a strong base.
  • All covers and safety devices have to be properly fitted before the machine is switched on.
  • It must be possible for the diamond wheel to run freely.
  • Before you actuate the ON/OFF switch, make sure that the diamond wheel is correctly fitted and that the machine’s moving parts run smoothly.
  • Before using the machine, check all of the parts for damage and replace any parts that are damaged. When replacing any parts or accessories, always carefully follow the instructions in this manual.
  • For optimum performance and maximum safety, keep the machine clean at all times.
  • While the machine is running, check the wearing parts and the fastenings of parts that may have become loose and check that all accessories are correctly fitted.
  • Notice! The tile-cutting machine is designed for use with water.
  • Check that the water level is high enough to cover the diamond part of the wheel each time before you start a cutting operation and keep checking it during cutting as well. Fill/ refill the cooling water directly into the trough.

Assembly

Danger! Remove the battery before carrying out any maintenance, resetting or assembly work on the tile-cutting machine. Assemble the equipment as shown in Figs. 3-12.

Fitting the diamond cutting wheel (Fig. 3,4,5)

To fit the cutting wheel, proceed as follows:

  • Remove the water container cover (6) (Fig. 3).
  • Pull the cutting wheel safety guard (7) up and out (Fig. 4).
  • Unscrew the nut (a) from the motor shaft and remove the outer flange (15) (Fig. 4).
  • Place the cutting wheel (14) on the inner flange and then fit the outer flange on the cutting wheel. Important! Check that the cutting wheel rotates in the correct direction!
  • Screw the nut by hand back onto the thread.
  • Place the ring wrench (19) on the nut and use the counterholder (20) to block the motor shaft (Fig. 5).
  • Screw the nut tight with the ring wrench.
  • Reinsert the cutting wheel safety guard and fasten the water container cover.

Fitting the splitter (Fig. 6)

  • Unscrew the pre-fitted fastening screw (13) out of the cutting table (4).
  • Secure the splitter (18) on the cutting table using the fastening screw.
  • The splitter must be positioned in the centre along an imaginary line extending behind the cutting wheel (14) so that the material can’t get jammed.

Fitting the wheel guard (Fig. 7)

  • Place the wheel guard (3) on the splitter (18) which is mounted on the equipment.
  • Insert the fastening screw (8) through the wheel guard and the splitter.
  • Turn the fastening button (9) onto the fastening screw.

Changing a worn diamond cutting wheel (Fig. 3,4,5,9,12)

To replace a worn cutting wheel, proceed as follows:

  • Remove the battery by pressing and holding the battery catch (22) while pulling the battery (21) out of the battery mount (24) (Fig. 9).
  • Remove the water container cover (6) (Fig. 3).
  • If necessary, screw out the water drain screw (11) to let the water out of the water container (Fig. 12).
  • Pull the cutting wheel safety guard (7) up and out (Fig. 4).
  • Place the ring wrench (19) on the nut (a) and use the counterholder (20) to block the motor shaft (Fig. 5).
  • Use the ring wrench to unscrew the nut and remove the outer flange (15).
  • Take out the worn cutting wheel (14) and clean the wheel flange thoroughly.
  • Place the new cutting wheel on the inner flange and fit the outer flange back on the cutting wheel. Important! Check that the cutting wheel rotates in the correct direction!
  • Block the motor shaft again with the counterholder and screw the nut tight with the ring wrench (Fig. 5).
  • Reinsert the cutting wheel safety guard and fasten the water container cover.

Charging the lithium-ion battery (Fig. 9,10)

  1. Remove the battery by pressing and holding the battery catch (22) while pulling the battery (21) out of the battery mount (24) (Fig. 9).
  2. Check that your mains voltage is the same as that marked on the rating plate of the battery charger. Insert the power plug of the charger (25) into the socket outlet. The green LED will then begin to fl ash.
  3. Push the battery pack onto the battery charger (Fig. 10).
  • In section 14 (Charger indicator) you will find a table with an explanation of the LED indicator on the charger.
  • If the battery pack fails to charge, check for the following:
    • voltage at the power socket
    • whether there is good contact at the charging contacts of the charging unit If the battery pack still fails to charge, send
    • the charger and charging adapter
    • and the battery pack to our customer service centre.
  • To ensure that items are properly packaged and delivered when you send them to us, please contact our customer service or the point of sale at which the equipment was purchased.
  • When shipping or disposing of batteries and cordless tools, always ensure that they are packed individually in plastic bags to prevent short circuits and fi res.
  • To ensure that the battery pack provides long service, you should take care to recharge it promptly.
  • You must recharge the battery pack when you notice that the performance of the device drops.
  • Never allow the battery pack to become fully discharged. This will cause it to develop a defect.

Operation

Filling the water container/draining the water (Fig. 3,11,12)

  • Remove the water container cover (6) (Fig. 3).
  • Fill water into the water container (5) up to the “MAX” mark (Fig. 11).
  • Screw out the water drain screw (11) to let the water out of the water container (Fig. 12).

Important! Keep a constant check on the water level

Inserting/removing the battery (Fig. 9)

  • Open the battery compartment cover (23) and insert the battery (21) into the battery mount (24).
  • Press and hold the battery catch (22) to remove the battery again from the battery mount.

On/Off switch

  • You can switch on the tile-cutting machine by flipping up the switch (12).
  • To switch off the tile-cutting machine again, you must flip down the switch.

Even cut (Fig. 13)

  • Set the cutting width with the parallel stop (2) and secure the stop with the fastening clasps (10).
  • The width of the workpiece can be read off the scale (16).
  • Fig. 13 shows the correct position for your hands during the even cut. The feed rate must not exceed the cutting capacity of the cutting wheel. This is to make sure that no material becomes detached, as this might cause accidents or injuries.

Angle setting for mitre cut (Fig. 14a,14b)

  • Fasten the water container cover (6) for the 45° mitre cut (jolly) in the top position (Fig. 14a).
  • Fasten the water container cover for the 22.5° mitre cut in the bottom position (Fig. 14b).

Miter cut (22.5°; 45°) (Fig. 14a,14b,15)

  • Fasten the water container cover (6) in the required angle position (see section 9.5 “Angle setting for mitre cut”) (Fig. 14a, 14b).
  • Fasten the parallel stop through the fastening clasps (10) as shown in Fig. 15.
  • Place the tile with its glazed side on the water container cover (Fig. 15).
  • Fig. 15 shows the correct position for your hands during the mitre cut. Your left hand holds the workpiece in contact with the cutting wheel while your right-hand pushes the workpiece forward. The feed rate must not exceed the cutting capacity of the cutting wheel. This is to make sure that no material becomes detached, as this might cause accidents or injuries.
  • Carry out a trial cut with a spare tile so that you can check the results of the cutting. Important! If the cutting wheel becomes jammed, switch off the equipment and take out the battery; only then are you to remove the workpiece.

Cleaning, maintenance and ordering of spare parts

Danger!
Always pull out the battery pack before starting any cleaning work. Take out the rechargeable battery each time before carrying out any adjustments, maintenance or repairs.

Cleaning

  • Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth or blow it with compressed air at low pressure.
  • We recommend that you clean the device immediately each time you have finished using it.
  • Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents; these could attack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensure that no water can seep into the device. The ingress of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock.

Carbon brushes
In case of excessive sparking, have the carbon brushes checked only by a qualifi ed electrician. Danger! The carbon brushes should not be rep laced by anyone but a qualifi ed electrician.

Maintenance
There are no parts inside the equipment which require additional maintenance.

Disposal and recycling
The unit is supplied in packaging to prevent its being damaged in transit. This packaging is raw material and can therefore be reused or can be returned to the raw material system. The unit and its accessories are made of various types of material, such as metal and plastic. Defective components must be disposed of as special waste. Ask your dealer or your local council.

Storage
Store the equipment and accessories out of children’s reach in a dark and dry place at above freezing temperature. The ideal storage temperature is between 5 and 30 °C. Store the electric tool in its original packaging.

Transport
If you want to move the equipment to a diff erent place, take out the battery fi rst and then move the equipment to the new position.

The charger is charging the battery pack in quick charge mode. The char- ging times are shown directly on the charger.

Important! The actual charging times may vary slightly from the stated

charging times depending on the existing battery charge.

Off| On| The battery is charged and ready for use.

The unit then changes over to gentle charging mode until the battery is fully charged.

To do this, leave the rechargeable battery on the charger for approx. 15 minutes longer.

Action:

Take the battery pack out of the charger. Disconnect the charger from the mains supply.

Flashing| Off| Adapted charging

The charger is in gentle charging mode.

For safety reasons the charging is performed less quickly and takes more time. The reasons can be:

– The rechargeable battery has not been used for a very long time.

– The battery temperature is outside the ideal range.

Action:

Wait for the charging to be completed; you can still continue to charge the battery pack.

Flashing| Flashing| Fault

Charging is no longer possible. The battery pack is defective.

Action:

Never charge a defective battery pack. Take the battery pack out of the charger.

On| On| Temperature fault

The battery pack is too hot (e.g. due to direct sunshine) or too cold (below 0° C).

Action:

Remove the battery pack and keep it at room temperature (approx. 20° C) for one day .

For EU countries only

Never place any electric power tools in your household refuse.
To comply with European Directive 2012/19/EC concerning old electric and electronic equipment and its implementation in national laws, old electric power tools have to be separated from other waste and disposed of in an environment-friendly fashion, e.g. by taking to a recycling depot.
Recycling alternative to the return request:
As an alternative to returning the equipment to the manufacturer, the owner of the electrical equipment must make sure that the equipment is properly disposed of if he no longer wants to keep the equipment.
The old equipment can be returned to a suitable collection point that will dispose of the equipment in accordance with the national recycling and waste disposal regulations. This does not apply to any accessories or aids without electrical components supplied with the old equipment.
The reprinting or reproduction by any other means, in whole or in part, of documentation and papers accompanying products is permitted only with the express consent of the Einhell Germany AG. Subject to technical changes.

In such cases, the work performed or parts fi tted will not result in an extension of the guarantee period, and no new guarantee will become active for the work performed or part fi tted. Devices that are returned without proof of purchase or without a rating plate shall not be covered by the guarantee, because appropriate identifi cation will not be possible. If the defect is covered by our guarantee, then the item in question will either be repaired immediately and returned to you or we will send you a new replacement.
