Use of this device assumes that the operator observes the conventional safety regulations and has read and understood the Operating Manual, Safety Instructions, and certificate.

When used in explosion-hazardous areas, the following Safety Instructions must also be complied with:

  • Inside explosion hazardous areas the covers of all interfaces (USB, ISM Interface) must be closed.
  • Within explosion-hazardous areas, the following accessories may be used when connected to the ISM interface:
    • The Headset IS-HS2A.1
    • The Headset IS-HDHS1x.1
    • The PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 together with the Headset IS-HDHS1x.1 The PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 without Headset IS-HDHS1x.1
    • Other accessories approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH The 16-pin ISM connector of the accessory must be securely fastened to the ISM interface.
  • If the PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 is connected to the ISM interface of the device together with the Headset IS-HDHS1x.1, the connection between the IS-PTTB1A.1 and the Headset ISHDHS1x.1 can be disconnected and reconnected in explosion hazardous areas.
  • When using the IS-PTTB1A.1 without the Headset IS-HDHS1x.1, the unused cable end of the IS-PTTB1A.1 may remain open in explosion hazardous areas.
  • When using accessories with Velcro fasteners (e.g. Headset IS-HDHS1B.1), the Velcro fastener may only be adjusted outside explosion hazardous areas.
  • To ensure the IP protection, it has to be ensured that all gaskets are present and functional. There must be no large gap between the two halves of housing and between the battery and housing.

Safety Instructions

When using the product, it is important to follow these safety instructions:

  • Observe conventional safety regulations
  • Read and understand the Operating Manual, Safety Instructions, and certificate
  • Covers of all interfaces (USB, ISM Interface) must be closed inside explosion hazardous areas

Using Accessories

Within explosion-hazardous areas, the following accessories may be used when connected to the ISM interface:

  • The Headset IS-HS2A.1
  • The Headset IS-HDHS1x.1
  • The PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 together with the Headset IS-HDHS1x.1
  • The PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 without Headset IS-HDHS1x.1
  • Other accessories approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH

When using the accessories, make sure to :

  • Securely fasten the 16-pin ISM connector of the accessory to the ISM interface
  • If using the PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 with the Headset IS-HDHS1x.1, the connection between them can be disconnected and reconnected in explosion hazardous areas
  • If using the IS-PTTB1A.1 without the Headset IS-HDHS1x.1, the unused cable end of the IS-PTTB1A.1 may remain open in explosion hazardous areas
  • Adjust accessories with Velcro fasteners (e.g. Headset IS-HDHS1B.1) only outside explosion hazardous areas

Maintaining IP-Protection

To ensure the IP-protection of the device, follow these guidelines:

  • Ensure all gaskets are present and functional
  • Avoid large gaps between the two halves of the housing and between the battery and housing

  • What should I do if there is a fault or damage to the device?
  • If there is any reason to suspect that the safety of the device has been compromised, it must be withdrawn from use and removed from any ex-hazardous areas immediately. Measures must be taken to prevent any accidental restarting of the device. We recommend that a device displaying errors or in which an error is suspected be sent back to i.safe MOBILE GmbH to be checked.

The device may only be charged at ambient temperatures between 0°C … +45°C. The device may not be exposed to any aggressive acids or alkalis. The device may only be used in zones 2 or 22.

EX-RELEVANT SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR NORTH AMERICA

WARNING

  • The battery may only be charged and replaced outside of the hazardous area only.
  • Only charge the device using charging equipment approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH.
  • The device must be protected from impacts with high impact energy, against excessive exposure to UV light and high electrostatic discharge.
  • The covers of all interfaces (USB, ISM interface) must be closed.
  • The device is intended to be carried over during use in the hazardous area.
  • The Headsets IS-HS2A.1, IS-HDHS1x.1 and the PTT Button IS-PTTB1A.1 or other accessories approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH may be used within explosion hazardous areas only if connected to the ISM interface. The connector must be securely fastened to the ISM interface.
  • The microSD cards IS-SD164.1 and IS-SD1128.1 may be used in the corresponding slot in the hazardous area. Alternatively, the SD card port has the following intrinsic safety entity parameters:
  • Uo/Voc=4.35 V
    Co/Ca=80 μF
    Lo/La=1 μH

FAULTS AND DAMAGES

If there is any reason to suspect that the safety of the device has been compromised, it must be withdrawn from use and removed from any ex-hazardous areas immediately. Measures must be taken to prevent any accidental restarting of the device. The safety of the device may be compromised, if, for example:

  • Malfunctions occur.
  • The housing of the device shows damage.
  • The device has been exposed to excessive loads.
  • The device has been stored improperly
  • Markings or labels on the device are illegible.

We recommend that a device displaying errors or in which an error is suspected be sent back to i.safe MOBILE GmbH to be checked.

INFORMATION CONCERNING SAR CERTIFICATION

(SPECIFIC ABSORBATION RATE)

The SAR limit of Europe is 2,0 W/kg for the head and body, 4,0 W/kg for the limbs. The devicehas been tested against this SAR limit. The highest SAR value reported under this standard during product certification for use at the ear is 1,27 W/kg and when correctly worn on the body is 1,23 W/kg, limbs is 2,3 W/kg.

This device was tested for typical body worn operations with the back of the handset kept 5 mm from the body. The device complies with RF specifications when used at 5 mm from the body. Belt clips, holsters and similar accessories used should not contain metallic components in the assembly. The use of accessories that do not satisfy these requirements may not comply with RF exposure requirements, and should be avoided.
